Harold Coleman
Harold Clinton Coleman, 74, of Rockhouse died, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 28, 1939, at Rockhouse, the son of the late Tim and Josie Branham Coleman.
He was a coal miner.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Branham and Margie Branham.
He is survived by his wife, Berdie Coleman, three daughters, Beverly Ann Easterling of Dandy Hook, Missy Coleman of Shelbiana and Pam Bishop of Mouthcard; one sister Helen Goins of Rockhouse; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 3, at Unity Freewill Baptist Church at Rockhouse with Darrell Harmon and Mike Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery at Rockhouse.
Visitation is Saturday at the church with special services at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City.
Cathy Hatfield
Cathy Sue Bartram Hatfield, 59, of Chattaroy, W.Va., formerly of Williamson, W.Va., died Feb. 26, 2013, at her home.
She was born July 30, 1953, the daughter of the late Ira and Goldie Bartram.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Aprila Shannon; and one brother, Larry Bartram.
She is survived by one son, Stephen Varney of Delbarton, W.Va, ; one sister, Shirley Caines of South Carolina; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Chattaroy Church of God with Pastor Mike Bostic and Jerry Toney officiating. Burial will follow in the Runyon Family Cemetery, Pinsonfork. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
William Reed
William Leo Reed, 57, of Pikeville, died Wednesday Feb. 27, 2013.
He was born in Pike County, Dec. 19, the son of the late William Phillip and Ruthie Adams Reed.
He was a former employee of the Appalachian New-Express.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Damron.
He is survived by one son, Will Reed of Pikeville; one daughter, Andrea Williams of Pikeville; one brother, Ricky Reed of Pikeville; three sisters, Sheryl Chaney of Pikeville, Peggy Slone of Greasy Creek and Carol Branham of Chloe Creek; and two grandchildren, Grant Reed and Benjamin Reed.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 2, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery, Lower Pompey. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Charles Slone
Charles Ray Slone, 61, of Betsy Layne, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Floyd County, Feb. 2, 1952, the son of the late Charles and Nancy Howell Slone.
He was a disabled coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rena McKinney Slone; one brother, James Buster Slone; and one sister, Mary Ellen Wright.
He is survived by two sons, Bobby Ray Slone and Charles Andrew Slone, both of Betsy Layne; two daughters, Kristina E. Slone of Betsy Layne and Serita Mullins of Pikeville; three brothers, Willie Slone and Bobby D. Slone, both of Betsy Layne, and Walter Slone of Blue River; four sisters, Mary Jane Gross, Loraine Clardy and Margaret Kashett, all of Michigan, and Jene Burke of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin, with ministers of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.
Visitation will be all day Saturday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.

Lola Billiter
Lola Mae Adkins Billiter, 79, of Greasy Creek, Shelbiana, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at her home.
She was born at Shelbiana, Nov. 29, 1933, the daughter of the late Duran Adkins and Erie Honaker Adkins.
She was self-employed, a homemaker and a member of the Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Billiter; and one daughter, Paulette Newsom.
She is survived by five sons, Franklin Billiter, Roy Billiter and Stacy Billiter, all of Greasy Creek, Delbert Billiter of Louisville and Samuel Billiter of Indian Creek; four daughters, Dottie Tackett of Virgie, Betty Johnson of Long Fork, Jennie Bartley of Indian Creek and Leshia Adkins of Greasy Creek; one brother, Ernest Adkins of Greasy Creek; one sister, Betty Adkins of Greasy Creek; 29 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Billiter Family Cemetery, Greasy Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, with special services at 7.
George Bush Jr.
George Bush Jr., 77, of Prestonsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born at Tram, Feb. 20, 1936, the son of the late Judge George and Roberta Patton Bush.
He was an electrician.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Slusher, Henry Slusher and Frank Bush.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Mullins Bush; two sons, Denver Bush and George David Bush, both of Martin; three daughters, Diane Sexton of Martin, Debbie Combs of Prestonsburg, Denise Little of Printer; three stepchildren, Chuck Davis, Clarence Davis and Carla Davis, all of Prestonsburg; one sister, Alice Moon; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Brent Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in the Bush Family Cemetery, Cracker Bottom, Martin. Arrangements are under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Ernest Prater Jr.
Ernest Prater Jr., 61, of Majestic, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Majestic, Nov. 16, 1951, the son of the late Ernest Prater Sr. and Rosie Duty Prater.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Daniels Prater; one son, Ernie Prater of Stopover; two daughters, Brenda Smith of Phelps and Patsy Hamlin of Pikeville; two brothers, Gary Prater of Majestic and Larry Prater of Raccoon; one sister, Deloris Perry of Wayne, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Phelps Funeral Home Chapel with Odis Blankenship and Larry Rife officiating. Burial will follow in the Prater Cemetery, Majestic. Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with services nightly at 7.
Linda Proffitt
Linda Lou Proffitt, 65, of Elkhorn Creek, Shelby Gap, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pontiac, Mich., Nov. 6, 1947, the daughter of the late Claude Salisbury and Mary Lou Salisbury.
She was employed as a waitress.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Salisbury and JoAnn Salisbury.
She is survived by her husband, Steven W. Proffitt; three sons, Jamie, Steven and Jason; two brothers, Larry Salisbury and Allen Salisbury; two sisters, Val Smith and Diane Salisbury; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private.
Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Sherry Workman
Sherry Denise Workman, 49, of Williamson, W.Va., died Tuesday,
Feb. 26, 2013, at her home, the result of injuries suffered in a fall.
She was born in Williamson, July 3, 1963, the daughter of Jeff Fields of Ragland, W.Va., and the late Mary Johnson Fields.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Carolyn Fields; her husband, Danny Paul Workman of Maher, W.Va.; two sons, Christopher Charles Fields of Lenore, W.Va., and Daniel Paul Workman of Red Jacket, W.Va.; four brothers, Mike Fields of Hardy, James Fields of Williamson, Clayton Eugene Fields of Texas and Robert Fields of Chattaroy, W.Va.; two sisters, Lisa Webb of Salt Lake City and Stephanie Hensley of Chattaroy; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Maher Freewill Baptist Church with Oliver Spradlin officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is at the church, after 4 p.m. Friday, with special services at 7.
Ernestine Varney
Ernestine Varney - age 86 of Turkey Creek, KY passed away Thursday; July 2, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Harrison, TN. Born May 27, 1923 in Pike County, KY; she was the daughter of the late John C. and Angeline Taylor Maynard.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her 1st husband: Toy Stanford Thomas; her 2nd husband: William G. Varney; 2 brothers: John C. Maynard Jr. and Carl B. Maynard; and a sister: Nancy G. Maynard.
Ernestine graduated from Belfry High School and Pikeville College. She was a retired teacher with the Pike County Board of Education, having taught her last 10 years at the Turkey Creek Elementary School. She was a member of the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, having been baptized on June 3, 1956 by Ken Varney and Avery Brown Lowe.
Those left to cherish her memory include her 2 loving daughters: Rita O'Quinn Barbery of Harrison, TN and April O'Lynn Parrigin, with whom she made her home, of Harrison, TN; a step-daughter: Barbara Sue Blackburn of Cicero, IL; 2 brothers: c.A "Crit" Maynard of Turkey Creek, KY and Paul W. Maynard of Sophia, NC; and 1 sister: Immojean "Goode" Harville of Lower John's Creek, KY. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday; July 6, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Elder Hobart Hamilton and Elder Richard Staten officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Saturday and anytime Sunday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
