Wheeler Blankenship
The Rev. Wheeler Blankenship departed this life with his Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was born at Stopover, July 13, 1947, the son of the late Hayes and Rittie (Blankenship) Blankenship and the grandson of his namesake, the Rev. Wheeler Blankenship I and Janie (Vance) Blankenship.
As a young man, he served as a U.S. Marine and was later employed as a surface mine blaster. But more importantly, he was a servant of the Lord. Throughout his Christian walk, he served as a teacher and assistant pastor at Faith Tabernacle Church and was pastor of The Eagle’s Nest Church, until his declining health prevented it. Through all the battles with sickness, Wheeler fought a good fight and kept the faith.
In addition to his parents, Wheeler was preceded in death by the following: one brother, Taft Blankenship, formerly of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Ruth Justice, formerly of Cincinnati, and Phyllis Blankenship, who died as a baby; his father-in-law who felt like a dad, James E. Dotson; and one sister-in-law, Clara Dotson.
Many are left to cherish the memories of this loved one. He was married
43 years to Joyce (Dotson) Blankenship. They were blessed with one son, Benjamin Blankenship, and a special daughter-in-law, Stephanie (Wolford) Blankenship.
God granted them with the loves of their lives, their grandchildren Trey, Hannah, and Lola.
In addition, Wheeler leaves behind the following: an older son, Steven Blankenship; a daughter, Earlene Dotson, and granddaughter, Carli Griffith; two brothers, Sherman (Carol) Blankenship and Hayes (Sharon) Blankenship, both of Stopover; one sister, Velma Huff of Colorado; his mother-in-law who was more like a second mom, Reba Dotson; four brothers-in-law, Dennis Dotson, Billy (Mitzie) Dotson, Carl (Donna) Dotson and Jerry (Trish) Dotson, all of Majestic; two sisters-in-law, Sue (George) Compton and Bonnie Daniels and son Jamey, all of Majestic; along with a host of nephews, nieces and friends; and Faith Tabernacle Church of Majestic.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the Faith Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Charles Meek, Odis Blankenship and Harold Layne officiating. Burial followed at Mounts Bottom (Sugar Hill), Majestic. Arrangements were under direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Phelps.
Other guest speakers were fellow ministers of the Lord
The obituary reading was by a special sister in the Lord, Dorothy Gilbert.
Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
Luther Hamilton
Luther Hamilton, 78, of Teaberry, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
He was born in Floyd County, Sept. 21, 1934, the son of the late Harvey and Judy Belle Hall Hamilton.
He was a coal miner and a minister of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church, Teaberry.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Johnson Hamilton, and his second wife, Roberta Hamilton.
He is survived by seven children, Verl Hamilton, Ledis Hamilton, Wilburn Hamilton, Lilly Curry and Donna Hamilton, all of Teaberry, Cledis Hamilton of Sevierville, Tenn., and Dee Templin of Pikeville; four stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Allard Hamilton Cemetery, Teaberry. Arrangements are under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
Lonnie Keen
Lonnie Albert Keen, 69, died Saturday Feb. 23, 2013, at Greasy Creek Road, Shelby Dry Fork, the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born July 13, 1943, the son of the late Tom Keen and Thelma Damron.
He was a machinist for United Screen Printers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by one daughter, Robin Renee Keen of Pikeville; two sons, Monty Allen Keene of Stanfield, N.C., and Tony Wade Keene of Pikeville; three sisters, Mary Louise Parsley, Linda S. Neeley and Judy Lynn Blake; one brother, Earnest Dean Keen; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Jack Adkins and Jimmy Reed Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Judith Ratliff
Judith Kay Ratliff, 71, of Pikeville, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Shelbiana, Nov. 8, 1941, the daughter of the late James E. Venters and Mabel Rowe Venters.
She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Ratliff.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey L. Ratliff of Elkhorn City; two daughters, Dawn Ratliff and Valarie Ratliff, both of Pikeville; one sister, Ida Sue Gill (Tom) of Mesa, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Joseph Ratliff, Justa Ratliff, Kristi Coleman, Heather Ratliff and Dakota Ratliff; and seven great-grandchildren, Madison, Josh, Alexis, Keely, Kevin, Kaden and Blake.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Island Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Clinard Ratliff officiating. Entombment will follow in the J.U. Thacker Memorial Mausoleum, Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Visitation is at the church, with services at 7 p.m. Monday.
Jonah Stump
Jonah Stump, 56, of Burnwell, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 201, 3 at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
He was born in Grundy, Va., March 6, 1956, the son of the late Ben and Liza Justice Stump.
He was a member of the Gospel Revelation Tabernacle Church and the No. 1 carrier for the "Williamson Daily News, " beginning at the age of nine.
He is survived by two sisters, Maxine Whitt of Burnwell and Martha Ann Hite of Columbus, Ohio; and two brothers, Cecil Justice of Vero Beach, Fla., and Benny Edward Stump of Pikeville.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Gospel Revelation Tabernacle Church with Delbert McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Burnwell. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, at the church.
Drew Taylor
Drew Taylor, 83, of Tram, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at his home.
He was born Dec. 14, 1929, the son of the late Jessie and Mary Anderson Taylor.
Drew was a maintenance worker for Pikeville Methodist Hospital and was a member of the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Eugene Taylor; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Adkins Taylor; two sons, Jim Taylor of Stanville and Gerald Taylor of Tram; one daughter, Sandra Cantrell of Tram; one brother, Jack Vernon Taylor of Catlettsburg; two sisters, Viola Belcher of Olive Hill and Jettie Bryant of Phyllis; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ with Church of Christ ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Monday, with special services at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Isaac Williamson
Isaac "Ike" Williamson, 84, of Brushy Road, Varney, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Pike County, Sept. 9, 1928, the son of the late John B. Williamson and Taney Case Williamson.
He was a logger and a member of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Martin; two brothers, Claudie Hale and Donnie Williamson; four sisters, Norma Pinson, Jewell Williamson, Doris Williamson and Nadine Williamson; and one grandchild, Mary Victoria Scalf.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Holbrooks Williamson; two children, Peggy Walker and Mary Jane Scalf, both of Brushy; one brother, Lonnie Williamson of Brushy; two sisters, Lena Webb of Brushy and Lucille Bostic of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, David Stepp, Paul Isaac Stepp, Robert Thornbury, Andy Scalf and John Roger Martin; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Thompson, Nicolas Thornbury, Danica Martin, Crystal Jude, Derrick Jude, Austin Maynard and Morgan Canada.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the J.B. Williamson Cemetery, Varney. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Edward “Ed” Miller, 72, of Pikeville passed from this earthly life on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on Monday March 27, 1939, a son of the late Price and Esta Little Miller. Ed was a retired miner and a state trooper. He was a member of the Little Laura Old Regular Baptist Church.
Ed leaves behind his loving wife, Joyce Watson Miller of Pikeville; two sons, Ricky Dale Miller of Millard and Stephen Ford of Pikeville; five daughters, Tonya Kaye Robinson of Caney Highway, Reba Coleman of Johns Creek, Destiny Hamilton of Pikeville, Jennifer Perrigan of Wise, Virginia, and Stephanie Holbrooks of Pikeville. Ed also leaves behind a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, and fiends. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
