Ruby Smith
Ruby Eileen Wright Smith, 69, of Little Robinson, died July 27, 2013, at her home.
She was born Jan. 30, 1944, the daughter of the late Hiram and Bertha Ellen Osborne Wright.
She was retired and of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Randall Smith; one son John Randall Smith; one daughter, Bobbi Smith; three brothers Jackie Wright, Gary Wright, Henry Hall; and one sister, Phyllis Smallwood.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruby Ann Hall and Shandra Starr Bentley; two brothers, Billy Wright, Carson Wright; four sisters, Norma Baker, Frances Bartley, Ruby Bartley and Bertha Montgomery; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home with Carson Wright, James Tackett, Mike Justice and others officiating. Burial will follow in the John Randall Smith Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Frank Conway
Frank Eric Conway, 36, of Lexington, formerly of Pikeville, died Thursday, July 25, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 28, at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.
Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home, Pikeville.
Arlene Ratliff
Arlene Ratliff, 73, of Pikeville, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born July 14, 1940, at Pikeville.
She was a homemaker and was of the Church of God faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Ratliff; a son, John Ratliff; a daughter, Dena Ratliff Hamilton; two brothers, Frank Holt and Landon Holt Jr.; and three sisters, Jean Holt, Tessie Gibson and Marie Goudy.
She is survived by a son, Barth Ratliff, of Greasy Creek; six daughters, Eva Kidd and Connie Ratliff, both of Pikeville, Linda Ratliff, of Acworth, Ga., Thelma Ratliff, of Biloxi, Miss., and Cookie Runyon and Robin Ratliff, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Milo Holt, of Payne, Ohio, and Russell Holt of Arkansas; and 13 grandchildren, and more than 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 28, at the Island Creek Regular Baptist Church with Regular Baptist ministers and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Ratliff Cemetery, Right Fork of Island Creek. Visitation will be at the church Saturday, with services at 7 p.m.

William “Doc” Stiltner
William Drainen “Doc” Stiltner, 66, of Belcher, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born August 31, 1946, in Pike County, the son of the late Clarence and Jean Lovelace Stiltner.
He was a trucking company owner and coal operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. Stiltner and Blake Stiltner; and two sisters, Ernestine Tackett and Magalene Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Zeldenia Ward Stiltner, of Belcher; a son, Darin Keith (Tammy) Stiltner, of Belcher; a daughter, Dena Michelle (fiancee Don Long) Sanders of Belcher; two sisters, Bethel Sue Stiltner of Jonesville, Mich., and Margaret Ann Stiltner of Kingsport, Tenn.; three brothers, John Paul Stiltner and Bobby Ray Stiltner, both of Elkhorn City, and Joseph Kenny Stiltner, of Belcher; and three grandchildren, Kelsey Darah Stiltner, Austin Keith Stiltner and Joshua Alan Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Elkhorn City, with Doug Ramey, Hufford Williams and Allen Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Dow Brooks Cemetery, Draffin.
Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Elkhorn City.
Wanda Thacker
Wanda Berniece Coleman Thacker, 82, of Lexington, S.C., formerly of Collins, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at her residence.
She was born March 18, 1931, at Red Creek, the daughter of the late John L. and Maude Swiney Coleman.
She was a nurse and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Jean Hampton; two brothers; and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Thacker; sons, Howard K. Thacker, Jack Thomas Thacker and Dewayne Thacker; daughters, Janet Thomas Mullins and Melinda Humphrey; a brother, Robert Coleman; three sisters, Bessie Baker, Tiny Hopkins and Frances McDonald; and 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 29, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville, with Danny Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Christine Stewart
Christine Roberts Stewart, 86, of Whitesburg, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
She was born at Robinson Creek, Jan. 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Roland and Allie Roberts.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stewart, who died in 2001; one son, Larry Thomas Stewart; three brothers, Tillos Roberts, James Roberts and John Roberts; and one sister, Cindy Roberts Balcolm.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna Kiehlmeier of Erie, Pa., Jean Ponchamni of Silver Spring, Md., and Christa Ratliff of Louisa; two sisters, Florence Tackett of Virgie and Reilly Vanhoose of Boston, Ky.; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be private with burial in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Eddy Brashears
Eddy Brashears, 57, of Penny Road, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Ohio, March 16, 1956, the son of the late Edly and Mattie Craft Brashears.
He was a retired coal miner.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Brashears; and one sister, Carol Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Biliter Brashears; two sons, Edly Brashears Jr. and Anthony Brashears; one stepson, Logan Hall; one stepdaughter, Mandy Bentley; two brothers, Terry Brashears and Jeff Brashears; one sister, Shannon Brashears; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in the Valley Grace Freewill Baptist Church with Randy May and others officiating. Burial followed in the Amos Newsom Memorial Cemetery, Robinson Creek. Arrangements were under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Cora Brewer
Cora Lee Brewer, 64, of Douglas Parkway, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at her home.
She was born in Dayton, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1949, the daughter of the late Worley and Pauline Stapleton Barnette.
She is survived by her husband, James Brewer; two daughters, Paula Hill and LouShonda Reynolds, both of Virgie; one brother, Worley Edward Barnette of Dayton; three grandchildren, Courtney Childress, Jaimee Chaney and Evan Reynolds; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Virgie Freewill Baptist Church with James Reynolds, Jamie Miracle and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Newsome Branch Cemetery, Penny. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Visitation is at the church.
Ruth Canada
Ruth Hall Canada, 87, of Pikeville, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.
Arrangements were incomplete at presstime and will be announced by J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Jimmy Fields
Jimmy Darrell Fields, 58, of Phelps, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Grundy, Va., Feb. 17, 1955, the son of the late LeRoy Fields and Pauline Justice.
He was an electrician and coal miner for Alpha Mining and a member of the Apostolic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Dotson Fields; one daughter, Marie Fonner of Hurley, Va.; one brother, Gary Fields; five sisters, Becky Taylor, Cathy Gearles, Jo Ann Justus, Betty Hipps and Wanda Hale; and two grandchildren, Tierra LaShae Fonner and Colby Michael Fonner.
Private services were held.
