John Williamson
Rev. John (Johnny) Kenneth Williamson, 50, of Glasgow, formerly of Canada, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Greenview Regional Hospital, Bowling Green, following a lingering illness.
He was born in South Williamson, May 23, 1963, the son of Kenneth and Janice Runyon Williamson.
He was a minister of music in Oneida, Tenn., and his home church of Pinsonfork Church of God. He attained the status of ordained bishop with the Church of God of Cleveland, Tenn., and went on to pastor churches in Biggs, Ky., Clay City, Ind., and Cora Hill, Glasgow.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter Williamson and Naoma Fuller Williamson; his stepgrandfather, Appy Thacker; and his maternal grandparents, John Thomas and Irene Dotson Runyon.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rhonda Caudill Williamson: one sister, Kathy Williamson Myers of Independence; one nephew and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Pinsonfork Church of God with the Rev. Claudie Caudill and the Rev. Lindsey Cornett officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Opal Lockney
Opal M. Lockney, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born July 19, 1926 in Pikeville, the daughter of the late Lee and Betty Coleman.
Opal came to Warren, Ohio in 1940. She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and Raefael School of Cosmetology. She previously worked at Ohio Lamp Division of GE. She was a member of Bolindale Christian Church and enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Lockney Sr. whom she married
February 23, 1946 and passed away July 27, 1979; two brothers Carl and Jess Coleman; and a sister Zelda Shaver.
She is survived by her four children Jean (Chuck) Gerlach of Youngstown, Henry (Mary) Lockney of Niles, Eddie E. (Denise) Lockney Jr. of Salem, and Sharon Lockney of Salem, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her dog Molly and Cat Emma.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Devadan officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel.
Scotty Derry
Scotty Derry, 67, of Slones Branch, died Jan. 2, 2014, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born May 24, 1946, in Pike County, the son of the late James Edward and Dolly Childers Derry.
He was retired from Greer and Bizzack, a road construction company. He was a member of Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Bobby Derry.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Hurley Derry, one daughter, Cathy Lynn Derry of Shelbiana; two brothers, Michael Derry of Rockhouse and Robert Derry of Kingsport, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at Lucas and Son Funeral Home with Jim Patton and Don Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday after 6 p.m. with special services at 7.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Bobbie Rowe
Bobbie Jean Rowe 83, of Troy, Mo., formerly of Belfry, died Jan. 1, 2014, at the Troy Manor.
She was born June 6, 1930, at McAndrews, the daughter of the late Wayne and Annie Marcum Edmiston.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Rowe; one son, Ronnie Edmiston; eight brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Jim Rowe of Troy; two daughters, Ida Nogosky of Destin, Fla., and Polly Hager of Belfry; one brother, Alex Edmiston of Hatfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. with Roger Williamson and the Canada Freewill Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry .
Joseph Scalf
Joseph Edgar Scalf, 94, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Pike County, died Wednesday Jan. 1, 2014.
He was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Pike County, the son of the late Thomas Mitchell and Arzella (Lane) Scalf.
He served his country in World War II in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife Princie (Abshire) Scalf; two sons, Edwin Dale and Larry Joe Scalf; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Scalf; and one grandson, Joseph Robert Scalf.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara Scalf Buchanan of Orlando; one granddaughter, Jessica Scalf McCormick of Michigan; and four great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Jan. 4 at Thacker Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. Saturday Jan. 4 at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Reba Smith
Reba Smith, 70, of Little Creek, died Jan. 3, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be released by Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Fred Baker
Fred Baker, 89, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born May 20, 1924, the son of the late Ira Baker and Frankie Baker.
He was a member of the Dorton Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Baker and Gary Baker; and 11 brothers and sisters, Alvis Baker, Tom Baker, Willie Baker, Bobby Baker, Anthony Baker, Ruben Baker, Dee Baker, Mindy Sanders-Wright, Becky Stiltner, Spicy Mullins and Mazie Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Hester Baker; two children, Barbara Beverly (Glen) and Mike Baker (Gail), both of Dorton; one brother, Mayo Baker of Lincoln Park, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Baker and Cheryl Baker; 10 grandchildren, Shannon Beverly of Georgetown, Jason Beverly of Dorton, Rebel Baker-Chreste of Frankfort, Brady Baker of Paintsville, Fred Baker of Livingston, Tenn., Brandy Baker of Lexington, Brad Baker of Prestonsburg, Lynton Taylor Jr. of Pinsonfork, James Taylor and William Brown II, both of Pikeville; 17 great-grandchildren, Anne Marie Beverly, Amanda Beverly, Jacob Beverly, Sophia Beverly, Colton Schul, Grant Schul, Ethan Baker, Silas Baker, Daniel Mathis, Kayla Mathis, Jackson Baker, Haley Baker, Chelsey Baker, Mitchell Taylor, Jordan Taylor, William Brown III, and Kaitlynn Brown; and five great-great-grandchildren, Gage Taylor, Tytan Taylor, Landen Worley, Kylie Ison and Jaylene Howard.
Funeral services were held at noon Wednesday at Shelby Valley High School with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Baker Cemetery, Dorton. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Rosemary Bentley
Rosemary Johnson Robinson Bentley, 80, of Booker Fork Road of Caney Highway, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Feb. 17, 1933, the daughter of the late Richard and Ethel Mae Bailey Johnson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hobert Robinson; her second husband, Joe Bentley; two children, Hobert Robinson Jr. and Joann Robinson; six stepchildren, Alka Hamilton, Pluma Hamilton, John Henry Robinson, Mary Lou Manson, Janice Elkins, Swanson Robinson; two brothers, Thomas Johnson and Duran Johnson; three sisters, Beulah Monte, Alpha McCord and Alka Stahl; and one grandson, Brian Ray Tackett.
She is survived by five daughters, Lavonne Damron (Larry) and Janet Newsome (Rickey), both of Robinson Creek, Carolyn Tackett (Billy), Donna Denison(Johnny) and Pam Newsome, all of Pikeville; four stepdaughters, Kathleen Tackett (Phillip) of Jenkins, Thelma Johnson (Kenis Ray) of Gray, Tenn., Jean Haynes and Joann Grafton (Rick), both of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; seven stepsons, Estil Bentley (Nina) of Ashcamp, Lester Bentley (Pam) of Hermitage, Tenn., Shird Robinson (Carol) of Louisville, Walter Robinson (Margie) of Pikeville, and Virgil Robinson (Thelma), Roland Robinson (Maryland) and Robie Robinson, all of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, John Henry Johnson of Huntington, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 52 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Freewill Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
Patricia Blair
Patricia May Blair, 69, of Feds Creek, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at her home.
She was born in Pikeville, Dec. 27, 1943, the daughter of the late Hazard Blackburn and Blanche "Braxie" Justice Blackburn.
She was a store clerk.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Blackburn.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Blair; one son, Vince Blair of Pikeville; one daughter, Marlania Blair Coleman of Steele; two sisters, Blanche Blair and Joyce Griffith, both of Feds Creek; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Jesse Bridgeman
Jesse H. Bridgeman, 87, of Little Creek, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at his home.
He was born Pike County, May 31, 1926, the son of the late Solman Bridgeman and Fannie Swiney.
He was a carpenter and a member of the Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Conley Bridgeman.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Miller Bridgeman; and one daughter, Loretta Bridgeman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Brian Hundley and others officiating. Entombment will follow in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
