Christine King
Christine King, 49, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, Oct. 9, 1965, the daughter of Vernon Smith and Phyllis McCoy Smith of Pikeville.
She was employed in house cleaning and as a teacher’s aide at Model City Day Care Center and was a member of the Owsley Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, James Rickey King; two daughters, Kristi Rashelle King and Jamie Nicole King, both of Pikeville; two brothers, Freddie Smith and Vernon Eugene Smith, both of Pikeville; three sisters, Kellie Smith Kennard, Ruth Smith Williams and Pamela Jo Smith, all of Pikeville; and one half-brother, Jimmy Parsons of Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Owsley Freewill Baptist Church with Eddie Overstreet officiating. Burial will follow in the King Family Cemetery, Cowpen. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at the church.
Donna Little
Donna Gail Little, 66, of Elkhorn City, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Pikeville, Nov. 20, 1948, the daughter of the late Foster Stewart and Lestie Bartley Stewart.
She was a computer clerk at the Department of Human Resources and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Bartley.
She is survived by her husband, Adam Little; and one son, Roger Bartley of Mt. Sterling.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Gibson, Oscar Damron and others officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Ella Newsome
Ella Faye Newsome, 76, of Columbus, Ohio, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at her home.
She was born at Penny, Dec. 20, 1938, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Eunia Newsome.
She attended the Old Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by three siblings, Edward Newsome, Josephine Kendrick and Charles Newsome.
She is survived by three sisters, Virgie Newsome, Eunia Marie Watts and Mattie Gallivan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Schoedinger East Chapel with burial following in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio. Arrangements are under direction of Schoedinger East Chapel of Columbus.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

“Edith” Robinson
Juanita “Edith” (Granny) Robinson, 82, of Greasy Creek, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, June 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Alex Prater and Nellie Adkins Prater.
She was a homemaker and of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Corburt Robinson; and one sister, Katherine Looney.
She is survived by one son, Michael Robinson; four daughters, Sheila Williams, Pamela Browand, Deborah Justice and Diana Thacker; two brothers, Benny Prater and Don Kinney; three sisters, Beulah Thacker, Wilma Jarvis and Shelby Scott; 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Gillespie Cemetery, Greasy Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
Paul Smith
Paul Smith, 73, of Hatfield, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, in the Skilled Nursing Facility at Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center, South Williamson.
He was born in Pike County, April 11, 1941, the son of the late Cullen Smith and Ethel Crigger Smith.
He was a coal miner and a member of the Victory in Jesus Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Smith; and one niece, Paula Jean West Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Pinson Smith of Sidney; three children, Pauletta Johnson of Lexington, Paul Wesley Smith of Sidney and Paula Totten (Kenneth) of Hatfield; one stepdaughter, Kim Robinette of Lexington; four siblings, Nita West of Sidney, Ruby Carter Yackle (Dave) of Lombard, Ill., Maggie Carter (Don) of Marengo, Ill., Betty Kuhn of Crystal Lake, Ill.; one special friend, Danny Ray Stanley; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Smith Cemetery, Sidney. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Joann Stadtfeld
Joann Stadtfeld, 67, of Grand Rapids, Mich., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Spectrum Butterworth Health System, Grand Rapids.
She was born in Pikeville, April 3, 1947, the daughter of the late Hiram Little and Martha Little.
She worked 30 years as a corrections officer at the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Johnda Ann Stadtfeld; one brother, Hiram Little Jr.; and five sisters, Hazel Worrix, Betty Joyce Balser, Rose Hall, Jacqueline Burke and Helen Allen.
She is survived by one son, Steven Stadtfeld of Battle Creek, Mich.; three sisters, Janette Robinson of Marshall, Mich., Margie Potter of Pikeville, Hattred Olphiant of Albion, Mich.; and one grandchild, Gavin Stadtfeld.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pauline Tackett
Pauline Yates Tackett, 79, of Pikeville, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Floyd County, Jan. 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Luster Yates and Peggy Gearheart Yates.
She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Tackett, who died April 14, 2009; one son, Ronnie Tackett; one brother, Berlin Yates; and one sister, Birdie Stapleton.
She is survived by three sons, Ervin Lee Tackett (Jerri), Eddie Dean Tackett (Kathy) and Darrell Tackett (Terry), all of Pikeville; one daughter, Patty Sue Goff (James) of Banner; one brother, Michael Luster Yates of West Liberty; two sisters, Pearl Huff and Bertha Tolan, both of North Adams, Mich.; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 30, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett Cemetery, Island Creek. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Magdalene West
Mary Magdalene West, 95, of Aflex, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at her home.
She was born at Turkey Creek, Oct. 13, 1919, the daughter of the late Winfield and Westy Hackney Blackburn.
She was a retired cook, having worked at South Williamson Elementary and Belfry High School, and was a long-time member of the Aflex Missionary Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Bill West; one daughter, Joyce Reed; one son, Donald Lee Francis; one stepdaughter, Jean Schoen; one stepson, Billy West; three brothers, Roy Blackburn, Roscoe Blackburn and John Blackburn; and three sisters, Hazel Smith, Lurla Pinion and Vada Yokum.
She is survived by one son, David West of Burnwell; two daughters, Sue (Larry) Hendricks of Warren, Mich., and Elaine West (Everett Lee Thompson) of Aflex; one stepdaughter, Patty (Kenny) McCracken of Texas; one daughter-in-law, Helen Francis of Rickman, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Joe Francis, Rhonda (Curt) Smith of Hazel Park, Michigan, Tom (Robin) Reed of Hazel Park, Larry Dale (Barb) Hendricks of Sterling Heights, Mich., Kecia (Mike) Maynard of Canada, Brandon (Bethany) West of Williamson, W.Va., and Gina Thompson of Pikeville; and special caregiver, Carolyn Dillon of Williamson.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Nolte and Pastor Mitchell Bias officiating. Music will be provided by The Regional Church of God Praise Team. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Pallbearers will be Larry Dale Hendricks, Brandon West, Kevin Stumbo, Dave Williamson, Terry Kinser and Steve Blankenship.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Maynard and Tom Reed.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel.
Betty Alley
Betty Joann Alley, 67, of Island Creek, Pikeville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Knott County, March 12, 1947, the daughter of the late Richard and Roxie Carroll.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry J. Alley; one son, Terry Alley; two brothers, Larry Carroll and Donald R. Carroll; and two sisters, Debra Irick and Kathy Alley.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Shirl D. Alley; one brother, Gordan D. Carroll; and one sister, Loraine Salisbury.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bud Crum and Robert Stump officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Vada Anderson
Vada Marie Anderson, 68, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
She was born at Freeburn, Feb. 18, 1946, the daughter of the late Avery and Christina Sullivan Slone.
She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Norman.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Kaye Dotson Sanders of Phelps; one sister, Joann Bevins; one brother, Benny Slone; and one granddaughter, Beth Ann Sanders Williams of McAndrews.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Church of God in Jesus Name, Phelps, with David Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral.
