Charles Bolen
Charles Everett Bolen of Belfry died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Signature Healthcare, Pikeville.
He was born in Lynn, W.Va., the son of the late John and Bonnie Bledsoe Bolen.
He was retired from the housekeeping department of the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center, South Williamson, and was a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Adkins; one brother, Kenny Bolen; and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Gale Stollings Bolen; two sisters, Garnet Bolen of Williamson, W.Va., and Lois Paquette of Minnesota; and four brothers, Roger Bolen of Dallas, William Bolen and Frank Bolen, both of Columbus, Ohio, and James Bolen of Piqua, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Mullins officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements were under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Alada Bowens
Alada Rondle Gene Bowens, 68, of Pikeville, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Prestonsburg Health Care.
He was born in Pikeville, March 14, 1946, the son of the late Ervin Bowens and Fannin Goodman Bowens.
He was a grounds keeper for the city of Pikeville-UMG.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Bowens Mangrum; and one sister, Belinda Robinson.
He is survived by one son, Alada Rondle Gene Bowens Jr. of Pikeville; one daughter, Kavinda Bowens Coleman of Pikeville; one brother, Phebis Russell Bowens of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Joyce B. Damron and Dorothy B. Brown, both of Pikeville, Phyllis Sue Runyon of Debary, Fla.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Mullins and Church of God ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
"Jim" Bowersock
James Carl "Jim" Bowersock, 85, of Greasy Creek, Shelbiana, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, May 9, 1929, the son of the late Richard Bowersock and Lydia Thacker Bowersock.
He was a barber, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, and a member of the Road Creek Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Ann Hughes Bowersock; one daughter, Calista Ann Blackburn; and four sisters, Jean Robinson, Mary Gillespie, Opal Robinson and Evelyn West.
He is survived by one son, Barry W. Bowersock; one sister, Jet Ann Robinson; two grandchildren, twins, Jeremy Lee Blackburn and Joshua Carl Blackburn; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 23, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with David Ramey and David Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Herman Branham
Herman Douglas Branham, 66, of Pikeville, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, March 16, 1948, the son of the late James Obera Branham and Ilene Coleman Branham.
He was a furniture maker and woodworker.
He is survived by one son, Jameson Craig Young; and four sisters, Brenda Kay Childers of Frenchburg, Fostina Gaye Branham of Inman, S.C., Kathy Gayle Fleming of Tennessee and Rena Darlene Kiser of Poor Bottom.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Little Hattie Old Regular Baptist Church with Jimmy Dale Sanders, Stacy Hopkins and others officiating. Burial followed in the Clevinger Cemetery, Marrowbone. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Donna Hackney
Donna Marie Hubbard Hackney, 64, of Chattaroy, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.
She was born in Williamson, W.Va., March 9, 1950, the daughter of the late James and Helen Kirtner Hubbard.
She was employed by the Mingo (W.Va.) County Board of Education as a teacher's aide for over 40 years, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson.
She is survived by one daughter, Staci Marie Moore; one brother, David Hubbard of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Harper Marie Moore of Victor, W.Va.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Schuler officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W.Va. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
"Homer" Hankins
Bobby Gene "Homer" Hankins, 80, of Canada, formerly of Hardy and South Williamson, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at the Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson.
He was born at Hardy, July 18, 1934, the son of the late Clyde and Hazel (Hunt) Hankins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Stafford Farley Hankins; two brothers, Tommy Hankins and Billy Hankins; and one sister, Betty Walker.
He was a former employee of Rush Reed Grocery of Goody, and Persinger Supply Company of Williamson and Chapmanville, W.Va. He was a member of the Victory in Jesus Church.
He is survived by two sisters, Connie Wallen of Prichard, W.Va., and Ruby Runyon of Pinsonfork; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Smith, Harles Ray and Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Clyde Hankins Cemetery, Narrows Branch, Hardy. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Marvin Lewis
Marvin Lewis of Shepherdsville, formerly of Letcher County, died at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.
Arrangements were incomplete at presstime and will be announced by Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Bernice Macier
Bernice Lucile Macier, 78, of Naples, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.
She was born in Hardy, the daughter of the late Ernest R. and Mary Ellen (Myers) Moore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Robert, Ernest, Tom, Imogene, Wanda, Beulah, Vivian and Winis.
She was employed at the Fort Sheridan Military Base in Illinois for more than 15 years and the Collier County Sheriff's Office for 11 years, and was active in the First Congregational Church of Naples.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Macier; two daughters, Rhonda Lathen of Parkland, Fla., and Robin Crawford of Firestone, Colo.; one son, Jeremy Macier of Naples; one sister, Ethel Thompson of Alabama; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the First Congregational Church of Naples.

Bobby May
Bobby Gene May, 64, of Pikeville, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, June 18, 1950, the son of the late Ranel and Jettie Murphy May.
He was a retired coal miner, a member of United Mine Workers of America, Thomas C. Cecil Lodge #375, El Hasa Shriners Temple, a Kentucky Colonel and was of the Holiness faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lynn Bartley; and a very special loved niece, Michelle Thacker.
He is survived by his wife, Zora Maynard May; one daughter, Jocelyn (Joey) Tackett; one son, Jonathan Randall “J.R.” May; a loving grandson, Tyler Tackett; three sisters, Ruth Ann (Dean) Thacker, Betty (Johnny) Jones, Wanda (Garrett) Thacker; one brother, Roger Dale (Marie) May; and a host of friends and family.
Bobby will be greatly missed by all who knew and adored him.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Justice officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Ester Mullins
Ester Irene Mullins, 82, of Dorton Creek Road, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington.
She was born in Pike County, April 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Lee Cable and Julie Potter Cable.
She was self-employed in the upholstery business and a member of the Regular Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mullins; five brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by one son, David Mullins; two daughters, Joyce Johnson and Veronica Long; one brother, George Cable; three sisters, Margie Rose, Icy Sowards and Avis Darnell; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery, Mullins. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
