Roxie Reynolds
Roxie Reynolds, 79, of Little Robinson Creek, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Dec. 21, 1935, the daughter of the late Alvis Newsome and Dona Newsome.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Reynolds; one brother, Ralph Newsome; two sisters, Thelma Short and Grace Newsome; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Jimmy Reynolds; five daughters, Judy Coley, Jill Garrett and Joyce Little, all of Little Robinson, Jenny Reynolds of Collins Highway, Jane Clark of Elizabethton, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Randy May and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Alvis Newsome Cemetery, Little Robinson. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Thelma Salyer
Thelma Mae Robinson Salyer, 96, of Morristown, Tenn., formerly of Elkhorn City, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Heritage Center Nursing Home, Morristown.
She was born in Pike County, Jan. 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Charlie Robinson and Emma Slone Robinson.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Beaver Church of Christ, prior to the Church of Christ, Morristown.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Salyer; two sons, Troy Salyer and Jackie Salyer; four brothers, Ray Robinson, Roy Robinson, Elster Robinson and Rudolph Robinson; and one sister, Eloise Belcher.
She is survived by one son, Rodney S. Salyer (Brenda) of Pikeville; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Salyer of Pikeville; four grandchildren, Neil Salyer, Glen Salyer, Barbara McGuire and Adrienne Adkins; six great-grandchildren, Savannah Salyer, Sidney Salyer, Jeremiah Adkins, Klair Adkins, Drew Salyer and Daisy Salyer; and a special friend, Jackie Frasher.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Josh Allen officiating. Entombment will follow in the O.T. Hinton Mausoleum, Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Roger Salyers
Roger D. Salyers, 73, of Regina, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, May 9, 1941, the son of the late Emery and Alpha Ratliff Salyers.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Lee Burton Salyers, James E. Salyers, Phoebe Dema, Fayetta Ratliff and Ardena Hagstorm.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anna Vaughn Salyers; two sons, Sean Salyers and Roger Dean Salyers II, both of Regina; two brothers, Blake Salyers (Judy) of Willisburg and Gene Gordon Salyers (Cheryl) of Pikeville; two sisters, Lorene Hawkins of Chicago and Coraphene Justice (Linton) of Pikeville; two grandchildren, Zachary Dean Salyers and Mason Ross Salyers; and a special friend, Randall Ray and his wife, Sondra.
Roger will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Blessed Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Millard, with Tommy England officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Oakley Shoemaker
Oakley Shoemaker, 81, of Long Fork of Virgie, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va.
He was born June 3, 1933, the son of the late Robert and Callie Shoemaker.
He was a retired equipment operator and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Woodward.
He is survived by one son, Jarred Shoemaker of Virgie; one brother, Lynwood Shoemaker of Greenlake, Mich.; and two granddaughters, Alexis Shoemaker and Savannah Shoemaker.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Virgie.

Carol Lou Smith
Carol Lou Smith, 60, of Smith Fork, Phelps, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Chicago, Nov. 30, 1954, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lula Mae (Shaw) Yohn.
She was a homemaker and of the Primitive Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Smith; and two sisters, Sharon Yohn and Sandy Yohn.
She is survived by three sons, Brian Smith and Glenn Smith, both of Smith Fork, Gary Smith of Clay City; two brothers, Michael Yohn and Buddy Yohn, both of Chicago; one sister, Patty, of Chicago; and three grandchildren, Austin Smith and Justin Smith, both of South Williamson, and Jonathon Smith of Clay City.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 23, in the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jimmy Lee Smith and the Rev. Marvin Casey officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery, Ash Lick Fork, Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Ballard Tackett
Ballard Tackett, 80, of River Rouge, Mich., formerly of Virgie, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, in River Rouge.
He was born in Kentucky, Feb. 13, 1934, the son of the late Ballard Tackett and Icy Elswick Tackett.
He was employed by the SYSCO Corporation Warehouse.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Tackett; and one sister, Blanche Mullins.
He is survived by one brother, Goble Tackett; and one nephew, Mike Mullins.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 22, in the Long Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Frank Tackett Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Henry Watson
Henry Ray Watson, 88, of Gamaliel, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Monroe County Medical Center, Tompkinsville.
He was born in Clay County, Tenn., April 13, 1926, the son of the late Elbert Watson and Rosa Painter Watson.
He was a retired merchant and farmer, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Clementsville Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bobbie Dugan Watson, whom he married
Oct. 4, 1947, and who preceded him in death, April 26, 2013; one brother, A.C. (Jack) Watson; and one sister, Willadean Lancaster.
He is survived by two sons, Jackie Ray Watson of Gamaliel and Fr. Richard Watson, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Pikeville; one daughter, Debbie Elrod (Mike) of Gamaliel; three grandchildren, Bethany Watson Prewitt (Jason) and Brooke Watson and Tanner Elrod; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Makenna Prewitt.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Strode Funeral Home's Gamaliel Chapel, with burial following in the Gamaliel Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Strode Funeral Home.
Military services will be conducted by DAV Chapter #20 of Glasgow.
Memorials are suggested to the Gamaliel Cemetery or Clementsville Church of Christ.
Loretta Williams
Loretta Williams, 87, of Lick Creek, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born at Lick Creek, June 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Bud Short and Kanzada Sawyers Short.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Lick Creek Holiness Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Williams; and one brother, Benny Short.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Sawyers, Karen Fuller, Diana Adkins and Patricia Ward, all of Lick Creek; one sister, Mary Lou Gunter of Waxhaw, N.C.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, in the Lick Creek Holiness Church with Danny Hess and Rick Sayers officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Emma Caudill
Emma “Wolford” Caudill, 66, of Stopover, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson.
She was born in Stopover, July, 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Jessie and Sophia Robinette Wolford.
She was a former cook for Majestic-Knox Elementary School and CNA for Good Shepard Community Nursing Home. Also, she was a member of the Shepherd Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Issac Wolford, John Wesley Wolford and Hirma Wolford; two sisters, Macy Wolford and Esta Mae Hurley; and one grandchild, Cameron Jaymes Sanner.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Caudill of Stopover; five sons, Danny Duty (Cindy) of Majestic, Barry Duty (Kimberly Wolford) of Phelps, Gary Duty (Debbie) of Phelps, Homer Duty (Bonnie Justice) of Stopover and Hubert Duty (Cathy Hess) of Majestic; four daughters, Angela Caudill Walters (William) of Independence, Shelia Belcher (Robert) of Wytheville, Va., Marcella Sanner (George) of Stopover and Emily Morrison of Stopover; two brothers, Stewart Wolford (Angie Jo) of Stopover and Tracy Wolford (Pam) of Edgarton, W.Va.; two sisters, Zetta Robinette of Columbus, Ohio and Nora Morrow of Independence; 18 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was loved by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Shepherd Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Reverends Tim Dodenhoff and James Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinette Cemetery, Stopover.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones and West Funeral Home of Phelps.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, with special services at 7 p.m.
