Levi Damron
Levi Silas Damron, 47, of Pikeville, died Friday, Feb. 06, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Lawrence County, July 26, 1967, the son of the late George Ewin Damron and JoAnn Blackburn Damron.
He was employed by a logging company and was of the Freewill Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Gullett Damron; one brother, Ewin Damron; and four sisters, Marlene Spalding, Debbie Osborne, Darlene Best and Georgetta Maynard.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home chapel, with Gary Stanley officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at 6 p.m. Saturday, with special services at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Saylor Daniels
Saylor Reese Daniels, the infant child of Jeremy Daniels and Cassie Elkins Daniels, of Beaver, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Besides her parents, she is survived by one brother, Cooper Daniels; one sister, Jersee Daniels; her paternal grandparents, Tunis and Terri Daniels; and her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Marie Elkins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Hamilton Cemetery, Beaver, with Junior Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Robert Hopkins
Robert Adam Hopkins, 39, of South Williamson, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 10, 1975, the son of Adam and Deborah McCoy Hopkins of Belfry.
He was a former coal truck driver.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Zella Mae Hopkins.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three sons, Tyler Marcum of Rogersville, Tenn., Michael Hopkins of South Williamson and Greysen Noah Hopkins of Fayetteville, N.C.; and two sisters, Sheila Carpenter of Rogersville, Tenn. and Jennifer Dotson of Belfry.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel, with Richard Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with special services nightly at 7 p.m.
Norma Roberts
Norma Roberts, 88, of Virgie, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at her home.
Arrangements were incomplete as of press time Friday and will be announced later by the Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Johnny Short
Johnny Robert Short, 80, of Bent Branch, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Phyllis, Sept. 15, 1934, the son of the late Willie “Bill” Short and Lena “Lennie” Williamson Short.
He worked as an auto mechanic.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Robert Short, Jr.; one brother, Billy Short, Jr.; and one sister, Mildred Gay Short Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie “Lurlie” Shirley Ratliff of Bent Branch; one daughter, Shirley Mae Short Hall (Ralph) of Richmond; two brothers, Delmon Short of Brodview, Ill. and Gary Short of Oakhill, Ohio; one sister, Thelma Justice Short of Luray, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Christopher Dale Hall of Marysville, Ohio and Chad Dee Hall of Richmond; and one great-grandchild, Wesley Chance Hall of Richmond.
Arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Carol Swiney
Carol Sue Swiney, 73, of Belcher, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pikeville, May 17, 1941, the daughter of the late Daniel Holbert Wright and Cynthia Adeline Hogston Wright Johnson.
She was a homemaker and dental assistant. Also, she was a member of the Elkhorn City Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gene Swiney; three brothers, Charles Ellis Wright, Robert “Bob” Wright and Omar Burns Wright; and two sisters, Alma Powell and Emilie Stapleton.
She is survived by one son, Lloyd Gene Swiney, II of Ruskin, Fla.; and two daughters, LaGeni Carol Justice and Emilie Rene Adams, both of Elkhorn City; one sister, Charlotte Wright Tackett of Maryville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Elkhorn City Baptist Church, with Jason Johnson officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Inc. of Elkhorn City.
Erie Adkins
Erie Adkins, 96, of Elkhorn City, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born in Pike County, Sept. 16, 1918, the daughter of the late Balvaro “Bal” Sanders and Venia Hackney Sanders.
She was a member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Morgan Adkins; one son, Jesse Ervin Adkins; four brothers, Brice Sanders, Johnny Sanders, Rush Sanders and Oscar Ellis “Hunky” Sanders; two sisters, Eunice Music and Gleema Goff; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by two daughters, Lavonne Bingham and Laverne May, both of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; two sisters, Anzie Mitchell of Princeton, W.Va., and Imal Kendrik of Elkhorn City; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Ed Belcher and Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery, Draffin. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday.
Floretta Akers
Floretta Akers, 89, of Pikeville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1915, at Pikeville Medical Center.
The was born Aug. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Issac Thurman Stapleton and Mary Florence Simpson.
She was a homemaker and a saved Christian.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Akers, who died March 24, 2009; one son, Elmer Willis Akers; three brothers, Ottis Stapleton, Irvin Stapleton and Earl Stapleton; three sisters, Lora Mae Stapleton, Emma Stapleton and Marie Pigg; and one grandchild, Eric Akers.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Akers (Toni) and Jimmy Akers (Vikki), both of Pikeville; one daughter, Elizabeth Faye Akers of Palm Harbor, Fla.; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with John George Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Serving as pallbearers were Hal Akers, Josh May, Zach May, Lindsey Akers Lynch, Nick Lynch, Robert Williams, Tyler Pigg and Roger Pigg.
Honorary pallbearers were Kathy Akers, Freddie Thomas “Bucky” Stapleton, Kyle Stapleton, Sarah Pinion, Liza Chaney and Bill Stiltner.
Scarlett Collins
Scarlett M. Collins, 51, of Baileyton Road, Greeneville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
She was employed by Laughlin Health Care and was a member of First Baptist Church of Baileyton.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Sandra and Eddie Ray Price; her husband of 16 years, Steve Collins; two sons, Warren Craig Branham and Casey Alexander Branham; three stepchildren, Stephanie Looney, Jason Randall Collins and Joshua Lee Collins; two sisters, Ambre Thacker and Debbie Ryan; and two stepgrandchildren, Jameson Looney and Keneatha Looney.
She was preceded in death by her father, Freddie L. Epperley; one daughter, Tara M. Branham; and her maternal grandparents, Rev. William Wardy and Gladys May.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the First Baptist Church of Baileyton with the Rev. James Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Anchor Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home of Greeneville.
