Lillian Hackney
Lillian Lois Hackney, 88, of McAndrews, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at her home.
She was born in McAndrews, Jan. 18, 1927, the daughter of the late Charlie G. and Myrdia May Helms.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles J. Helms and Kenneth Helms; and two sisters, Clara Bow Blackburn and Brenda Joyce Gray.
She is survived by her husband, David Hackney; four sons, Ronald David Hackney of Florida, Donald Lee Hackney of Alabama, Randolph “Randy” Hackney of McAndrews and Ricky Lester Hackney of Texas; two brothers, Howard Helms and Dennis Helms, both of Louisville; one sister, Peggy Sue Stanley of Louisville; nine grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Raymond Stanley and Bro. Mike Elswick officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of R.E.Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Robert Hopkins
Robert Adam Hopkins, 39, of South Williamson, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at the Tug Valley ARH Regional Medical Center, South Williamson.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 10, 1975, the son of Adam and Deborah McCoy Hopkins of Belfry.
He was a former coal truck driver.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Zella Mae Hopkins.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sons, Tyler Marcum of Rogersville, Tenn., Bruce Michael Hopkins of South Williamson and Greysen Noah Hopkins of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Sheila Charpenter of Rogersville and Jennifer Dotson of Belfry; one niece and five nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in the Hatfield Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Staton officiating. Burial will folow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with special services nightly at 7.
Betty Mullins
Betty Zane Mullins, 90, of Pikeville, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 25, 1925 the daughter of the late H.K. and Arzetta Whisman.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Mullins; two sons, Gregory Mullins and Jeffery Mullins; one brother, Jack Whisman; and four sisters, Helen Charles, Sonja Runyon, Shelby Posey and Kathleen Noel.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Mullins and Stephen Mullins; one sister, Connie Vanover; and one granddaughter, Heather Deskins.
Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
John Slone
John D. Slone, 60, of Jonancy, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 18, 1954, the son of the late Green and Maxine Bevins Slone.
He worked for UMG.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Worrix and Brenda Slone; and one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Cheri K. Slone; two sons, Jordan Slone and Frank Slone, both of Jonancy; two daughters, Christy Burke of Dorton and Kaitlyn Harmon of Prestonsburg; four brothers, Lonnie Slone, Donnie Slone and Ricky Slone, all of Pikeville, Randy Slone of Johns Creek; one sister, Wanda Chaney of Stone Coal; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Hope Freewill Baptist Church with Junior Cantrell and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Bevins Cemetery, Lower Pompey. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.

Gary Sowards
Gary Sowards, 71, of Salyersville, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Letcher County, May 30, 1943, the son of the late Eddie and Draxie Anderson Sowards.
He was a trucker and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Sowards; and three siblings, Eddie Kaye Charles of Pikeville, Teresa Branham of Elkhorn City and Brenda Wright of Robinson Creek.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Hobson officiating. Burial followed in Highlands Memorial Park. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
“T.R.” Thompson
Trimble Rediford “T.R.” Thompson, 75, of Hartford, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, Nov. 10, 1939, the son of the late Seth Edgar Thompson and Beatrice Spears Thompson.
He retired from Peabody Coal Company, was a member of United Mine Workers of America, served as military police in the U.S. Air Force and was of the Baptist faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Wheeler and Barbara DiNardo; and four brothers, Edgar D. Thompson, Bill May, Jack May and Tom May.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia “Ginny” Baker Thompson; two daughters, Rhonda Simpson of Owensboro and Tammy Thompson Justice of Pikeville; one son, Scott Ayer of Owensboro; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Armstrong and the Rev. John Cashion officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Beaver Dam. Arrangements are under direction of Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home of Hartford.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time for services on Friday.

Clarence Trammell Jr.
Clarence Trammell Jr., 75, of Pikeville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.
He was born in Jefferson, Ala., Oct. 8, 1939, the son of the late Clarence Trrammell and Mable Bennett Trammell.
He was employed by Western Construction, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his former wife, Mary Alice Mays of Wheelwright; his true companion, Marshilla Johnson; one son, Clifton Wayne Trammell Sr. of Wheelwright; two daughters, Apostle Clearicea Renee Weathers (Maurice) of Durham, N.C., and Deborah Montel Trammell of Wheelwright; one stepdaughter, Evelyn Johnson of Pikeville; six grandchildren, Tabitha Taylor (Richard, Coretta Bryant (Jeremy), Clifton Trammell Jr., Carlitha Trammell, Darreeus Trammell and Joseph Logan; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaden Graham, Braylon Taylor, Gabrielle Taylor, Kenley Crum, Lakyrah Wolford, Anaiyah Logan, Siann Logan, Joseph Logan Jr. and Tyrell Logan.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Eldridge Terry and others officiating. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Joyce Adkins
Joyce Ann Adkins, 73, of Jenkins, died June 14, 2015, at her home.
Born April 10, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Ethel Little Tackett.
She was retired from Pikeville Methodist Hospital and a member of the Shelby Valley Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randall Dewayne Adkins and one brother, Vernon Tackett.
She is survived by her husband, Randall Blake Adkins; daughter, Subrena Hamilton; four brothers, Bobby Tackett, Billy Tackett, Charles Tackett and Vornele Tackett; five sisters, Linda Summers, Peggy Roberts, Wanda Tackett, Dorothy Fleming and Lois Rutledge; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home, with Greg Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Coleman Cemetery at Wolf Pit. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Lucas and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Larry Coleman
Larry Dwain Coleman, 68, of Shelbiana, Ky., died Monday, June 15, 2015, at U.K. Chandler Hospital, Lexington, Ky.
He was a school teacher in Buchanan County, Virginia. He was a member of the Pikeville Freewill Baptist Church since 1991.
Larry was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on March 19, 1947, a son of the late Anthony David Coleman and Bessie Justice Coleman.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Coleman and one sister, Marie Coleman.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Stella Diana Chaney Coleman, one son, Kevin Dwain (Amelia) Coleman of Shelbiana and one daughter, Kimberly Marshell Coleman of Pikeville.
Two brothers, Kenis Blake Coleman of Pikeville and Audra Gene Coleman of Stanville and three sisters, Zenith Justice of Pikeville, Ruby Clark of Dayton, Ohio and Augustine Wright of Dorton and a very special lady, Iva Jean Weddington of Shelbiana.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Avery Dwain Coleman, Keaton Anthony Coleman and Kooper Wayne Coleman.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Pikeville Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating.
Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Chapel after 6 p.m. Wednesday with services at 7 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Call Funeral Home.
