Christine Kendrick
Christine Kendrick, 89, formerly of Shelbiana, died Friday, June 12, 2015 in Tennessee.
She was born January 23, 1926, to the late David & Naomi Coleman.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her spouse Perry Kendrick; and two sons, Perry Kendrick Jr and Eddie Ray Kendrick.
Christine is survived her sons, Harold Dean Kendrick, Gary Douglas Kendrick; and one daughter Shelbia Diane Williamson, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arrangements are Incomplete and will be announced later by the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home.
Ruby Adkins
Ruby M. Adkins, 98, of Pikeville, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at her home.
She was born at Rockhouse, Jan. 24, 1917, the daughter of the late Farley and Allie Bentley Adkins.
She was a homemaker and a founding member of the Unity Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elza F. Adkins.
She is survived by three sons, Ervin Adkins (Virginia) of Largo, Fla., Thomas Adkins (Louise) of Rockhouse and Jerry Adkins (Dee) of Ponte Verda Beach, Fla.; and one daughter, Judy Adkins Underwood of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Florene Oliver of Logan, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Morgan Chapman and others officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Jack Ashley
Jack Ashley, 87, of Robinson Creek, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Garden of Western Reserve, Streetsboro, Ohio.
He was born in Dekalf, Ala., March 15, 1928, the son of the late Charles Ashley and Kate Mitchell Akers.
Jack was a retired coal miner and a member of the Fords Branch Church of Christ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Willard Akers; one brother, Glen Ashley; his wives, Wilma Ashley and Janie Branham Ashley; one daughter, Katie Ashley; and one son, Curtis Jackson Ashley.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Redlin (Tom) and Connie Carter (Dave); three sons, Jackie Darrel Ashley, Ricky Ashley and Robert Lee Ashley (Misty); one sister, Grace Glaze; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 14, in the Hall & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Ford Branch Church of Christ ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Amos Newsome Cemetery, Robinson Creek. Arrangements are under direction of Hall & Jones Funeral Home of Virgie.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday with special services at 7.
Dalton M. Belcher
Dalton M. Belcher, 81, of Franklin, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
He was born in Elkhorn City, Oct. 26, 1933, the son of the late Chester and Stella (Short) Belcher of Meta.
Dalton was a 1967 graduate of Pikeville College and a United States Air Force veteran, serving honorably in the Korean War. He was the longtime agency manager of Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance in Pikeville. After retiring, he opened Daddy-D Bait Company and operated the boat dock and marina at Fishtrap Lake.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and an evangelist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Phyllis (Sword) Belcher, a longtime Pike County educator and high school guidance counselor.
He is survived by his son, Ronnie Belcher (Leann) of Eustis, Fla.; three daughters, Dr. Kathy Belcher (Jerry Booth) of Wady, Julie Miller (Daniel) and Cheryl Gillis (Keith), both of Franklin; two brothers, Raymond Belcher (Patricia) and Roger Belcher; five grandchildren, Joshua Miller, Jacob Miller, Logan Miller, Alexandria Gillis, and Chase Gillis; one great-grandchild, Marley Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Victory By Faith Church, Scott Avenue, Pikeville. The Rev. Raymond Sword will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sword-Blevins Family Cemetery.
L. Frances Bevins
L. Frances Sanders Bevins, 92, of Phyllis, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center, Phelps.
She was born in Ranger, W.Va., April 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry Sanders and Mary Watts Sanders.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Berean Bible Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings.
She is survived by two sons, George M. Bevins Jr. (Ruth) and Roger L. Bevins (Terry); one brother, Morgan Sanders; one sister, Wanda Midkiff; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, in the Berean Bible Church with Arnold Adams and David Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Will Blankenship
Will Malcolm Blankenship, 38, of Stopover, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, Nov. 23, 1976, the son of Will and Edna Blankenship of Stopover.
Will was a logger and of the Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Myrtle Blankenship; his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Oma Blankenship; and a niece, Angel Vandyke.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Cyriah Blankenship of Stopover; seven sisters, Connie Young (Ralph) of Home Creek, Va., Anna Brown (Mack Jr.) of Big Rock, Va., and Carol Hurley, Laura Vandyke (James), Patricia Adkins (Luther), Inis Hardin (Broc) and Betty Hunt (Roy), all of Stopover; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 14, in the Jamboree Church of God with the Revs. Odis Blankenship, Marvin Casey and Eddie Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery, Stopover. Arrangements are under direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with services nightly at 7.
Maggie Hensley
Maggie Marie Hensley, 85, of Hatfield, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at her home.
She was born at Hardy, Jan. 12, 1930, the daughter of the late Admiral Dewey Thompson and Augusta Thompson.
Maggie was of the Christian faith, being a member of the Sharondale Church of Christ. She had a passion for bass fishing and gardening and loved to go to yard sales. Maggie enjoyed life and being with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Howell (Trampes) of Hatfield; one sister, Mable Smith of London; four special nephews, Jackie Lee Coleman (Paulette) and Billy Roy Coleman (Greta), both of Huddy, Hollis Coleman (Becky) of Stony Ridge Ohio, and Lucion Coleman (Jackie) of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Richard Howell (Kimmy), Victoria Howell and Ashley Howell, all of Hatfield; and one great-grandchild, Christian James Jackson Howell of Hatfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, in the Sidney Missionary Baptist Church with ministers of the church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Hardy. Arrangements are under direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps.

Willard Jarvis
Willard David Jarvis, 80, of Maher, W.Va., died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Maher, May 25, 1935, the son of the late Henry and Gertrude Johnson Jarvis.
He was the retired owner/operator of the former Jarvis Salvage Yard at Maher and was
a member of the Maher Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry Jarvis Jr., Elvie Jarvis,
Charles Jarvis and Ronnie Jarvis; and three sisters, Mary Schwartz, Brenda King and Julia “Mag” Jarvis.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Ruble Jarvis; his loving children, Ruth Ann Newsome
of Kermit, W.Va., Wilma Sue Ball and Willard David Jarvis II (Tammy), both of Huntleyville, Judy Lynn (James) Marcum of Naugatuck, W.Va., Patricia (Gerald) McCoy of Pilgrim; one brother, Bobby Jarvis of London, Ohio; one sister, Debbie Sturgill (Bruce) of Maher; seven grandchildren, Tyler Newsome, LaCosta Newsome, Linzi Ball, Brandy Brown, Shane Marcum, Austin Jarvis, and Haileigh Ball; and three great-grandchildren Ryder Newsome, Grayson Brown, and Jake Harper.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends that loved and cherished him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the Maher Freewill Baptist Church with Chris Hensley, Matthew Martin and James Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the McNeely Cemetery, Maher, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with services nightly at 7.
James Simpson
James Howard Simpson, 63, of Dry Fork of Shelbiana, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Detroit, Aug. 9, 1951, the son of the late Harold Donald Simpson and Garnett Faye Damron Simpson.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War, and was of the Baptist faith.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Sue Carter Simpson; and two grandchildren, Tyler Thacker and Hannah Simpson.
He is survived by two sons, Hank Simpson (Robin) and Jimmy Simpson (Misty); one daughter, Dusty Charles (Mike); one brother, Robert Alan Simpson; seven grandchildren, Hank Jordan Simpson (Megan), Dustin Dewayne Charles (Mariah), Luke Nicholas Simpson, Trinity Michael Deboard, Drew Charles, Shelby Lynn Simpson, Abigail Cheyenne Simpson; and one great-grandchild, Wyatt Jordan Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, June 14, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Hoe Chapel with Jimmy Jack Adkins and Darrell Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the R.H. Ratliff Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.
