Didema Thacker
Didema Thacker, 67, of Raccoon, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Pike County, Oct. 24, 1947, the daughter of the late Wallace and Reedie Thacker.
She was a member of the Berean Bible Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom Ferell Thacker, Don Thacker and Phillip Thacker; and three sisters, Mary Lee Chaney, Tilda Thacker Nancy Jane Thacker.
Didema is survived by her loving husband, Steve Thacker; one daughter, Diana Ray (Matthew) of Hatfield; two sons, Stevie Thacker and William Thacker, both of Pikeville; one sister, Linda Alley of Meta; two brothers, Alvie G. Thacker of Raccoon and John Wallace Thacker of Feds Creek; and five grandchildren, Emily Ann Ray, Evan Thomas Ray, Canaan Steven Thacker, William Caleb Thacker, and Connor Harrison Thacker.
She will be forever loved and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at noon Sunday, June 14, in the Grassy Freewill Baptist Church with Brad Williamson, Lester Tibbs and Larry Goff officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at the church after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday with special services Saturday at 7.
Grandchildren will act as pallbearers.
Brandy Trump
Brandy Trump, 32, of Beaver, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Ivel.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 14, in the Pilgrims Home Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
Troy Bryant
Troy Bryant, 82, of Collins Highway, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at his home.
He was born in Pikeville, June 24, 1932, the son of the late Alfred Bryant and Nellie Rogers Bryant.
He was a truck driver employed by Branham Lumber Company and was a member of Voice of Victory Revivals.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lacy Spears, Mary Newsome and Bertha Hall; two brothers, Benny Bryant and Perry Bryant (infant); and one great-grandson, James Matthew Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife, Buncie Compton Bryant; one son, Troy Gene Bryant; one daughter, Mary Lou Potter; two brothers, Dewey Bryant and Arlin Bryant; four sisters, Dixie Rogers, Leona Marrs, Justine Prater and Frankie Adams; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Hall and Greg White officiating. Burial will follow in the Damron Fleming Cemetery, Jonancy. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday with special services at 7.
Clifford Coleman
Clifford Edward Coleman, 85 of Pikeville, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born in Pikeville, Dec. 16, 1929, the son of the late Anna Rich Coleman and Robert Coleman.
Clifford was a member of the Island Creek Baptist Church. He spent his life working - in the coal mines for several years - before retiring from the East Kentucky Beverage Company after 26 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Thurman Ratliff.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Justine Lowe Coleman, whom he married
March 15, 1952; two sons, Robert Dean Coleman (Anita) of Emma and Clifford Coleman Jr. (Sharon) of Pikeville; one daughter, Patsy Howell (Cecil) of Pikeville; four grandchildren, David Michael Coleman, Brooke Coleman, Miranda Beth Coleman and Haley Howell; two stepgrandchildren, Starsky Howell and Chase Howell; and three great-grandchildren, Sydney P. Layne, Cooper Michael Coleman and Marley J. Delpont.
Clifford will be sadly missed and forever loved and remembered by his family, loved ones and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Levi Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Branham, Junior Reynolds, Jimmy Parsons, Jordan Delpont, Everett Williams, Starsky Howell, Chase Howell, Donnie Hall and James Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lowell Thomas Coleman, David Michael Coleman, Don Williamson, Cecil Howell and Mack Hall.
Melvin Eplin
Melvin Eplin, 78, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born at Virgie, Feb. 17, 1937, the son of the late Dan Eplin, who died Jan. 1, 1978, and Rebecca Ray Eplin, who died Sept. 8, 1989.
He was an independent distributor for Little Debbie’s Snack Cakes and had been a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church since 1987.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Gross Eplin, who died March 25, 2004; one son, Fred Eplin; three brothers, Larry Eplin, Leonard Eplin and Greeley Eplin; and three sisters, Lou Thacker, Lizzie Derossett and Margie Eplin.
He is survived by one son, Chris Eplin (Cindy) of Harold; two daughters, Mary Morton (Dale) of Boldman and Kathy McCoy (Mark) of Harold; two brothers, Elmer Eplin and Buster Eplin, both of Betsy Layne; three sisters, Madge Allen of Betsy Layne, Betty Ann Sparks of Campton, and Ada Gillispie; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Kent Eplin, Dezeree Garrett (Kevin), Heather Ann McCoy, Daphne Leigh McCoy, Justin Dale Morton, Austin Christopher Eplin (Janel), Jessica Whitley Williamson (Kyle); and seven great-grandchildren, Ethan Hayes, Jayla Garrett, Brayden Bartley, Presley Eplin, Blaze Morton, Brinlynn Williamson and Paisley Eplin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church with Tracy Patton and Barry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is at the church, after 7 p.m. Wednesday, with services at 7 p.m. Friday.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ethan Hayes, Justin Morton, Austin Eplin, Kyle Williamson, Kevin Garrett and Kent Carter.
Dillie Hamilton
Dillie Johnson Hamilton, 84, of Teaberry, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, in the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church, Teaberry.
Arrangements are under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
Nancy Hatcher
Nancy Sanders Hatcher, 81, of Russell, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at her home.
She was born at Praise (Elkhorn City), Oct. 1, 1933, the daughter of the late Ferde C. and Anthony Senter Sanders.
She grew up in Pike County and graduated from Pikeville High School in 1951. She attended nursing school in Louisville, where she met and married
Charles L. Hatcher. They started a family and in 1957 moved to Ashland.
In addition to raising her children, she worked at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Unicorn Pet Shop (the family business), A. C. Marble Inc., and the Boyd County Circuit Clerk’s office.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, and a brother, Rodney B. Sanders of Pikeville.
Nancy is survived by a daughter, Antonia M. Carroll (William) of Russell; a son, Charles M. Hatcher (Patricia) of Raceland; a granddaughter, Jessica M. McKenzie of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Ferde C. Sanders (JoEllen) of Murray; a special niece, Adrianne Sanders Justice of Lexington; a special cousin, Donna Loar Rhude of Jacksonville, Fla.; a special friend, Pam Vallance of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the Ashland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods.

James Gary Kidd Sr., 66, of Grethel, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, in the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church, Grethel, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Newman-Kidd Cemetery, Grethel. Arrangements are under direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
“Sammy” May
James “Sammy” May, 71, of Morris Bottom, Sidney, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born in Pike County, Nov. 17, 1943, the son of Faynell Gross May of Sidney and the late Jimmy May.
He was a timber worker and a member of the Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Loretta Edmiston May; two children, Doug May of Sidney and Diane Duvall (Patrick) of Albany; 12 siblings, George May, Kelly May, Woody May, Dave May, Joey May and Rhonda May, all of Sidney, John May, Rita Hunt and Estalea West, all of Canada, Bernie May of Martin County, Arlene Chapman of Johns Creek and Lillian Rhodes of Hatfield; and three grandchildren, Cassie Varney, Alexis Duvall and Dylan Duvall.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the Dix Fork Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Family Cemetery, Dix Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, with special services at 7.
Magaline Patrick
Magaline Patrick, 72, of Tram, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel, Martin.
Carmel Spears
Carmel Spears, 82, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg.
He was born at Owsley, May 21, 1933, the son of the late Jeff Spears, who died Dec. 19, 1993, and his mother, Clara Meade Spears, who died Dec. 20, 1995.
He was an insurance agent manager, president of Kentucky Life Underwriters, a board member of Kentucky State Life Underwriters and Prestonsburg Industrial Board, and a member of Kiwanis. He was a member of Fitzpatrick Baptist Church in Prestonsburg and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Stratton Spears; one son, Tim Spears of Pikeville; one daughter, Pamela Sue Herrick (Robert) of Prestonsburg; one brother, Norville Spears of Greenville, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Robert Brooks Herrick and Katherine Elizabeth Herrick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Tommy Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday.
