Gwendel Johnson

Gwendel Johnson, 64, of Caney Highway, Pikeville, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home.

He was born June 13, 1950, in Pike County, the son of Lexie Johnson and the late George F. Johnson.

He was self employed, served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Jeremy Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jordan Johnson and Lexington; one daughter, Shannon Johnson of Lexington; four brothers, Garla (Linda) Johnson of Berea, Gregory (Sue) Johnson of Virgie; Garnie (Vicki) Johnson of White Pine, Tenn., and George F. (Kathy) Johnson of Pikeville; two sisters, Georgia Lee (Jeffrey) Scott of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Garol (Gary) Compton of Lexington; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ with burial following in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

“Ikey” Layne

Dwight “Ikey” E. Layne, 62, of Kimper, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, Nov. 9, 1952, the son of Eula Mae Stiltner Layne of Kimper and the late Emery Layne.

He was a coal miner.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Layne and Randall Layne.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Crystal Layne of Cub Run; and five siblings, Curtis Patten Layne, Donnie Layne, Blake Layne, Blaine Layne and Wanda Anderson, all of Kimper.

Funeral services will be held at noon Sunday, June 7, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Layne Cemetery, Kimper. Arrangements are under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.

Randy McCoy

Randy Carson McCoy, 55, of Island Creek of Pike County, died Monday, June 1, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Pike County, April 27, 1960, the son of Willie and Daisy (Thacker) McCoy.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy McCoy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly McCoy; his father, Willie McCoy; one son, David (Amber) McCoy of Hellier; two grandchildren, Kashanda and Cloi McCoy; three sisters, Pricy Ellen (Donnie) May, Betty Sue (Gordon) Basney and Peggy Ann (Layton) Sawyers; and two brothers, Willie (Brenda) McCoy and Ronald McCoy.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in the Thacker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Harris and Marion Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements were under direction of Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Samuel Randolph

Samuel Walter Randolph, 56, of Belfry, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 15, 1958, the son of the late James Auvol Randolph and Annie Irene Dibble Randolph.

Samuel was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served six years for his country. He was a 1976 graduate of Williamson High School before graduating from Marshall University with a business degree. He was an engineer for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad from 1987 to 2015. Samuel was a Christian and an active member of the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed researching family genealogy and spending time with his loved ones.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Maude Marie Randolph and June Gail Randolph Browning.

Samuel is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Evelyn Bevins Randolph; two children, Jessica Ann Randolph of Williamson, W.Va., and Samantha Dawn Randolph (Teddy) Poore of Lexington; two stepchildren, Holly Michele Blackburn and Sherman Douglas Blackburn of Louisville; two grandsons, Elijah Thomas White and one due in August; his brother, James Clinton Randolph of Turkey Creek; his sister, Irene (Mike) Cochran of Belfry; and the mother of his children, Nancy Ann Curry of Parkers Lake.

Sam loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind and his greatest desire was to reflect Christ’s love to his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m Friday, June 5, in the Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Mikey Smith and Timothy Yates officiating. Burial will follow in the Stepp Cemetery, Sidney, with Belfry Chapter #141 Disabled American Veterans conducting military services. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church, 1011 Taylor Fork Rd., Turkey Creek, KY 41514.

Homer Snodgrass

Homer Gene Snodgrass, 79, of Elkhorn City, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his home.

He was born in Pikeville, Feb. 13, 1936, the son of the late Glen Snodgrass and Mattie Bowens Snodgrass.

He was a carpet installer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glen “Snookie” Snodgrass; and one sister, Florine Newsome.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marietta Fraley Snodgrass; two sons, Rodney Snodgrass (Jenn) of Kingsland, Ga., and Homer Snodgrass of Pikeville; four daughters, Katie Bailiff (Ned), Cheryl Snodgrass and Stephanie Snodgrass, all of Elkhorn City, Loretta Snodgrass (Tracy Boyette) of Dana; one brother, Bill Snodgrass of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jr. Bailiff (Mary), Tammy Fields (Charles), Jeff Bailiff (Keisha) and Joe Snodgrass (Jamie), all of Elkhorn City, Nicole Johnson (Jonathan) of Dunedin, Fla., Chase Snodgrass (Jordan) of Pikeville, and Zachary Snodgrass, Bailey Snodgrass and Caulen Snodgrass, all of Kingsland; 15 great-grandchildren, Tranvilla Bailiff, Chris Bailiff, Cory Bailiff (Tasha), Zach Fields, Mackenzie Bailiff, Sydney Bailiff, Elijah Snodgrass and Liam Snodgrass, all of Elkhorn City, Kayla Martin (Josh) of Prestonsburg, Cydney Snodgrass, Kinley Snodgrass, Riley Snodgrass and Lincoln Snodgrass, all of Pikeville, James Johnson and Dominic Johnson of Dunedin; and four great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett Rose and Heavenleigh Fields, both of Elkhorn City, and Noah Martin and Luke Martin, both of Prestonsburg.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Heath Cook and the staff of Jenkins Family Clinic for always being there for us and for your compassion; Premier Home Care of Pikeville; Winnie with Cooley Medical of Prestonsburg; and Peggy McKenzie and Kristy Hunt of BSAAA.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Levi Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, East Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City.

Visitation is from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday with special services at 7 p.m.

Lonnie Allen

Lonnie Allen, Age 83 of Stanville passed away June 4, 2015.Services will be Sunday June &, 2015 at 1pm at Nelson Frazier Funeral home, Visitation Saturday Jane 6, 2015.

Makenna Lynn Adkins

Makenna Lynn Adkins, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born June 4, 2015, the daughter of Wesley and April Hill of Pikeville.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Ronnie Adkins.

She is survived by her maternal grandparents, Jawanda and Richard Hill; and her paternal grandmother Patricia Adkins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Ray Robinson, Old Regular Baptist and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery, Greasy Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Billie Fletcher

Billie Jean Fletcher, 78, of Pikeville, died Friday, June 5, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born in Harold, July 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Albert Patrick Parsons and Ocie Kidd.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Cornerstone Christian Church.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Fletcher; four brothers, Randolph Parsons, Saint parsons, Paul Parsons and Albert Parsons; one sister, Golda Boyd.

She is survived by one son, Robert Fletcher (Annette) of Pikeville; two daughters, Robin Boyd (Douglas), Tewanna Gibson (Darryl) both of Pikeville, one step-daughter, Anna L. Torres (Phillip) of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Potter officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Doug Boyd, Michael Boyd, Josh Fletcher, Anthony Gibson, Payton Gibson, Jacob Fletcher, Jake Vanhoose and Bradley Parsons.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday in the chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.W. Call Funeral Home of Pikeville.

Lynette Thomas

Lynette Thomas, age 54 of Betsy Layne passed away June 3, 2015. Services will be held Saturday June 6, 2015 1 pm at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home. Visitation will be held after 6pm Friday June 5, 2015 at the funeral home.

Paisly Akers

Paisly Jade Akers of Pikeville, died Friday, August 14, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born Friday, August 14, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center, the daughter of Jeremy Akers and Amanda Smith.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Billy and Peggy Callcutt Smith and her paternal grandmother Tammy Akers.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandfather Edward Akers; brothers, Elijah Smith and Tagan Akers; and sister, Tamera Akers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2015, at J.W. Call Funeral Home, Pikeville. Burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jw. Call Funeral Home.

Myrtle Anderson

Myrtle Honaker Anderson, 91, of Anderson Road, Phyllis, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born June 7, 1924, at Phyllis, the daughter of the late Jim and Alice Honaker Honaker.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Gabriel Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Anderson; and four brothers and seven sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Elmer (Mabelene) Anderson and Luther (Kathy) Anderson; a daughter, Nancy (Willis) Hunt; a sister, Irene Lowe; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and special friends, Jack Horne and Joe Ray Horne.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the Gabriel Church of Christ, with Jack Horne and Joe Ray Horne officiating. Burial will follow in the Honaker Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church, with services at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.
