Dorothy C. Lyons
Dorothy C. Lyons, 79 of Edmonton, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton. She is survived by a brother, Johnnie Jessie of Edmonton. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Community Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemtery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church.
Rudolph Joseph Guilmet
Rudolph J. Guilmet, 68, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Barnesville, GA, died Sunday, May 24, at his residence. He was a native of Farmington, NH and he was a retired broker at Spring Properties. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus council 1455 and has been a Kentucky Colonel since 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Eugene and Mary Ring Guilmet. He is survived by his wife, Diane Noel Guilmet of Elizabethtown, KY; a daughter, Nichole Niemeyer of Elizabethtown; 4 sons, Michael Guilmet and Christopher Guilmet both of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Guilmet of Rockland Maine and Steven Guilmet of Gardiner, Maine; a sister, Patricia Lilly of Sanbornville, NH, 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Joseph Louis Thomas
Joseph Louis Thomas, 77 of Glendale, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Hardin County, served in the Navy during the Korean War and is an Elder at Glendale Christian Church. He has been a member of the Glendale Lions Club for 46 years and the Glendale Fire Department for 40 years and was the Postmaster in Glendale for 29 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Rodney and Lettie Pauline Plyman Thomas. He is survived by his wife Joan Tabb Thomas; four sons, Joseph L. (Tina) Thomas, Jr., Jeffrey T. (Mary Annette) Thomas and James D. (Cheryl) Thomas all of Elizabethtown and Jonathan W. (Sherry) Thomas of Glendale; one sister, Jean (Mike) Carroll of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren, Sean Thomas, Joshua Thomas, John Michael Thomas, Jennifer Davis, Leah Thomas, Emily Thomas, Aaron Thomas, USAF in Okinawa, Megan Thomas, Lydia Thomas, Katelyn Thomas, Josiah Thomas, Kiley Thomas, Stuart Thomas and Olivia Rose Thomas and two great grandchilden, Lexi Davis and Kayleigh Thomas. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Glendale Christian Church with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Christian cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home.
Lallia Mills
Lallia Robbins Mills, 85 of Elizabethtown, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. She was a native of Pineville and a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. She was a retired Dietitian at Okolona Elementary School and was a former Mary Kay Cosmetics Representative. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Mills; a son, Jerry Mills and her parents, Jake L. Grace Green Robbins. She is survived by one son, Barry Mills of Elizabethtown and two grandchildren, Tammra Ward of Houston, TX and Susan Martin of Louisville. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Roger McCurry officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ernest Pyles
Ernest Pyles, 84 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Adair County, a member of Earlies Chapel Methodist Church and was a Farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge and Letha Burris Pyles. He is survived by his wife, Jean Eggers Pyles; one son, James Ernest (Kim) Pyles of Somerset; one brother, Bobby Pyles of Campbellsville; one sister, Cymbeline Shofner of Campbellsville and one grandson, Jamie Dean Pyles (Tamra) of Georgetown. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Naomi Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Gerald Dean Cardin
Gerald Dean Cardin, 76 of Glendale, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at Kensington Manor. He was a farmer and a long-time member of Gilead Baptist Church. He was a 1952 graduate of Glendale High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche Tabb and Thomas Clark Cardin and a brother, Wendell Cardin. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Jump Cardin; a step-daughter, Suzanne (Rick) Cox of Granger, IN; a step-son, Edward (Keesha) Summers of Xenia, Ohio; five step-grandchildren and a nephew, Brian Cardin. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Hinkson and Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Sonora cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9 a.m. Monday at Gilead Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to Gilead Baptist Church Building Fund.
Christian Daniel Winkenhofer
Christian Daniel Winkenhofer, 47 of Jeffersonville, IN, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Clark Memorial Hospital. Survivors include, mother, Nancy Callahan Winkenhofer of Shepherdsville; father, David Richard Winkenhofer of Clearwater, FL and a brother, Mike Winkenhofer of Shepherdsville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grayhampton cemetery in Meade County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Doris Jean Payton
Doris Jean Williams Payton, 77 of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Helmwood Healthcare Center. She was a native of Hardin County and was the owner and operator of Payton's Upholstery for 40 years. She was a loyal and faithful member of the Order of Eastern Star #74 in Upton, was the Past Matron and Past Deputy Matron of the Grand Chapter of KY and was Past Grand Representative of Oklahoma of the Grand Chapter of Kentucky. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #113. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clarence and Rose Anna Smith Williams and one brother, Eddie Thomas Williams. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lenard Payton; two sons, Rick (Becky) Payton and Eddie (Sherry) Payton all of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Teresa (J. R.) Dodson of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, Darrell Payton, Dusty Hilse, Richie Payton, Missy Carter, Amanda Wachowski and Amy Payton; six great grandchildren, Macie, Noah and Mckay Payton, Wyatt Wachowski and Brandon and Autumn Cochran and a special sister-in-law, Betty Neff of Elizabethtown. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Trumbo and Bro. Sonny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. There will be an Eastern Star service Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Virgil Reed
Virgil Reed, 80, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, May 5 at his residence. He was a native of Middletown, OH and a retired plumber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paris and Amanda Sons Reed; a son, Robert Wayland Reed; 4 brothers, William, Roy, Isaac and James Reed; 2 sisters, Stanley Campbell and Laura Howell and a granddaughter, Angela Keplinger. He is survived by his wife Neomia Martin Reed of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Judy and James Keplinger of Elizabethtown; 5 sons, Stephen D. Reed and Rose of Rineyville, Virgil Bradley Reed and Linda, Paul Dean Reed and Debbie, William Todd Reed and Randall Allan Reed all of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be Friday at 12 noon at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor David Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Jenkins cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continue after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
