Clarence Lee Shumate
Clarence Lee Shumate, 83, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday Feb. 10, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Hardin County and retired building inspector for the city of Elizabethtown where he worked for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby and Mary Geneva Hobbs Shumate; one brother, Pal Shumate; and one sister, Bertha Ozella Hendren. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Addie Lee Johnson Shumate of Elizabethtown; two sons, Tony (Laura) Shumate of Elizabethtown and Barry (Teresa) Shumate of Upton; two granddaughters, Amy Shumate of Louisiville and Teri Thomas of Elizabethtown. The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home with Arlie Bradley officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Randall Wallace Patterson
Randall Wallace "R.W." Patterson, 92, of Sonora, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Woodland Terrace Health Care Facility. He was a native of Sacramento, KY, a WWII Army veteran and was retired from civil service at Ft. Knox. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church for 61 years and was a door greeter and usher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naoma Wilkins Patterson and by his parents, Hayden and Lottie Hudson Patterson. He is survived by a daughter, Brenda Patterson (Justus) Duncan of Sonora and a granddaughter, Joyce Duncan of Louisville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Roger McCurry officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m.Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
James John Skarda
James John Skarda, 83 of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Kensington Manor. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy and the proud father of four beautiful daughters, Dorothy Alban, Deborah Smith, Denise Wilkinson and Janet Skarda. There will be no service at this time.
Patricia Felker Finch
Patricia Felker Finch, 56 of Issaquah, Washington, died Friday, February 12, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Daniel Finch and a son, Chris Finch of Issaquah, Washington; a daughter, Amy Dokos and grandchildren, Chyenne and Dalton of Titusville, Florida; a son, Mike Finch and grandson, Brenden Finch of Richland, Washington; five brothers, Jim Felker of Tucson Arizona, Pat Felker of Houston, Texas and John Felker, Bill Felker, and Daniel Felker all of Elizabethtown, KY. Funeral services were held in Issaquah, Washington. Local visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Dwight F. Pelkey
LTC Retired Dwight F. Pelkey, 80 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Willsboro, NY. He was one of the original male nurses commissioned in the Army Nurse Corp., was a CRNA, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and trained at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. After military retirement, Lt. Col. worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital in the anesthesia department, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, where he served as Assistant Treasurer for a few years. He was also a member of the Massena, NY Masonic Lodge. He had a part in the movie Elizabethtown. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Basmajian Pelkey; two children, David Pelkey of Brookville, OH and Debra Anderson of Carrizzo, NM; four grandsons, Ryne Anderson, Evan Anderson, Rodney Pelkey, currently serving in the Navy in Japan, and Matthew Pelkey, a Marine; one brother, Rev. Lyman Pelkey of PA and one sister, Fortana May Walsh of NY. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Litchfield officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery in Norfolk, NY. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to Hosparus or the Lion's Club.
Paul William Constant
Paul WIlliam Constant, 68, of Sonora, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Larue County and a member of New Hope Community Church where he was a former Elder and treasurer. He worked for ECTC for 22 years, was a charter member and past president of South Hardin Lions Club and past District Governor of District 43N He was also past president of the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Gordon Constant, Sr. and Betty Cundiff Constant and by a brother, James Constant. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra Sutton Constant, one daughter, Sherry (William) Rock of Elizabethtown, one son, Sean P. (Autumn) O'Neal of Elizabethtown, one brother, John Constant of Hodgenville, two sisters, Rachel (Jack) Barnes of Glendale and Mary (Harlan) Benningfield of Hodgenville, four grandchildren, Bryce, Dugan, Erika and John, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Community Church with Rev. Herb Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sonora cemetery. Gladys Irene Seaton
Gladys Irene Seaton, 86 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at North Hardin Health and Rehab. in Radcliff. She was a native of Logan County and a member of Bethesda Ministries (Church of God of Prophecy), where she was a long time worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Seaton; her parents, Fred and Cora Horton Bird She is survived by one daughter, Wanda J. Beld of Elizabethtown; two sons, Ronnie Edward (Janice) Seaton of Owensboro and Ricky Lynn Seaton of Elizabethtown; one brother, Fred Bird, Jr. of Hopkinsville; three sisters, Beulah Atterberry of Elizabethtown, Shirley (Hoyte) Ball of Willisburg and Alberta (Perry) Arnold of Flagstaff, AZ; five grandchildren, Deadra, Scott, Kevin, Keith and Joy and ten great grandchildren, Dustin, Reagan, Emma, Brittani, Katelyn, Eric, Brooke, Austin, Madison and Cortney. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bethesda Ministries with Bro. Kevin Seaton and Bro. Henry Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and continue Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church.
John Austin Davis
John Austin Davis, 33, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Taylor County. He was a native of Hardin County and worked for Precision Roller Bearing. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1996 and formerly worked at Ambrake. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, E. L. "Red" and Martha Davis and Edward and Nan Barnes. He is survived by a son, John Austin Davis II of Elizabethtown, a daughter, Mariah Sage Davis of Elizabethtown, his parents, Michael and Diane Barnes Davis of Elizabethtown, one sister, Jennifer (Kelly) Keefe of Lexington, two nieces, Anabel and Sophia Keefe of Lexington and the mother of his children, Michelle Davis of Elizabethtown. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Roger McCurry officiating. Burial will be in Buck Grove cemetery in Meade County. Visitation of 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Charles Michael Skees
Charles Michael Skees, 74 of Stephensburg, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010. He retired from E'town Laundry after 43 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna "Jo" Barnes Skees; his parents, Leon and Frances Skees; one son, David Skees and one brother, Eugene Skees. He is survived by his wife, Linda Lucas Skees; three sons, Allen (Leslee) Skees and Randy (Sue) Skees all of White Mills and Doug Skees of Radcliff; three daughters, Pat (Jim) Westerman and Pam Ferguson of Howevalley and Theresa (Tim) Peters of Radcliff; three step sons, Stephen (Carol) Peters of Elizabethtown, Roy "Mo" Peters of Howevalley and Darrell (Christine) Peters of Hundley, IL; one brother, Thomas (Brenda) Skees of Cecilia; seven sisters, Marcella Hill, Nina (Paul) Bohanon, Regina (Tim) Kennedy and Joetta Botto all of Elizabethtown, Loretta Poole of Mt. Washington, Dolores Barnett of Louisville and Doretta (Ronnie) Kerr of Sonora; 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Tillie Blakeman
Tillie Tucker Blakeman, 90 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Helmwood Health Care Facility. She was a native of Marion County and a member of First Christian Church. She was a volunteer at Hardin Memorial Hospital for 20 years and retired from E'town Sportswear after 31 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gordon Blakeman; her parents, Walter G. and Margueritte Marshall Tucker and two brothers, Joe Tucker and Edwin Tucker. She is survived by one son, Tom (Suzanne) Blakeman of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Brenda (Harry) Mills of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Dawn (Buck) Bland and Larry (Shelly) Mason; two great grandchildren, Sydney and Tyler Mason and 1 step great granddaughter, Ashley Bland. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Kiger officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
