Luther Doren Hardy
Luther Doren Hardy, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday May 2, 2010 at Kensington Manor. Mr. Hardy was born June 30, 1920, in Louisville, KY. He moved to Glendale in 1930 where he graduated from Glendale High School in the class of 1938. He served during WWII as a supply sergeant with the 14th Army Air Corps Flying Tigers in China. Following his discharge, he worked as a Property and Supply Clerk at Ft. Knox. He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and was a past president of the Central Kentucky Association of Life Underwriters. A charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Mr. Hardy served as a deacon, music director, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. He represented IBC for several years on the Executive Board of Severns Valley Association of Baptists. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Carr Hardy; his parents, Mattie Butler and Luther Doren Hardy, Sr.; and one sister, Frances Craig. He is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Larry) Wilson of Elizabethtown and Barbara (Tony) Nunn of Franklin, TN; a grandson, Troy (Kim) Nunn of Franklin, TN; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Kathryn Nunn, Tyler Adam Nunn, and Stella Hardy Nunn all of Franklin, TN; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Carr of Cecilia, Mildred (Norb) Wurzel of Doe Valley, and Nita (Randall) South of Elizabethtown; two brothers-in-law, Walter Craig of Rockledge, FL and Cleveland Johnson of Elizabethtown; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Dr. Charles Darland officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church.
Steven Presley Strange
Steven Presley Strange, 53, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday April 25, 2010, at the home of his sister. He was a native of Hardin County and a retired janitor from Elizabethtown Sportswear. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his children and grandchildren very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alma Terry Strange; two brothers, W.L. Strange and Charles Kenneth Grimes, Sr.; one sister, Carolyn Beard; and one nephew, Doug Beard. He is survived by his wife, Robin Wilson Strange of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Chandra (Chris) Eureste of Elizabethtown; a son, Shane Strange of Elizabethtown; two grandsons, Aidan Eureste and William Strange Jr. both of Elizabethtown ; one brother, Paul Strange Sr. of Cecilia.; two sisters, Sue (Bobby) Sherrard and Elaine (Dale) Mabe all of Elizabethtown; and a numerous number of nieces and nephews whom loved him dearly. The funeral is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Wallace officiating. Burial to follow at Valley Creek cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Charlotte Butler
Elizabeth Charlotte "Lottie" Braun Butler, 84 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at her residence. She was a native of Augsburg, Germany, a member of Glendale Christian Church and retired from J.C. Penney at Southland Terrace Mall in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Butler and her parents, Otto and Ina Rupp Braun. She is survived by her special caregiver, Evelyn Loving. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Christian cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the Glendale Christian Church Building Fund.
Florine Carr Meadows
Florine Carr Meadows, 83, of Hodgenville, died Saturday, April 24, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Bullitt County, a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church and was presently living at Sunrise Nursing Home. She was a registered nurse and during WWII she was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corp. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Flossie Lynch Carr Feather. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eugene Allen Meadows of Hodgenville; a son, Eugene (Melissa) Meadows of Stockbridge, GA; 2 daughters, Connie (Mike) Meiller of Hodgenville and Karen (Randy) Beasley of Fredericksburg, VA; a sister, Shirley Ann Wallace of Elizabethtown and 3 grandchildren, Adrienne (Jeremy) Tucker of Liberty, KY, Tabitha Meadows and Rachel Meadows, both of Stockbridge, GA. Her funeral will be 1 pm Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Meiller officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 pm Monday and after 12 noon on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mary Elizabeth Jeffries
Mary Elizabeth Jeffries, 84 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Logan County and was a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church where she was in the Sharing Class. She retired after more than 20 years from AAFES at Ft. Knox. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harley Jeffries; her parents, Martin Jasper and Erma Katherine Horton Dowdell; four brothers, Charles, Paul, Martin, Jr. and Raymond Dowdell and two sisters, Carrie Seaton and Edith Vertrees. She is survived by one son, Doug (Sandy) Jeffries of Mansfield, TX; two brothers, James (Mildred) Dowdell and David (Barbara) Dowdell all of Elizabethtown and one sister, Janie (Richard) Sprung of Hudsonville, MI. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home.
Anna Castleman Meyers
Anna Castleman Meyers, 65, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday April 28, 2010 at her residence. She was a native of Larue County and a member of Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church. She worked in the Food Service Department for the Hardin County Board of Education for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gerald Meyers; and her parents, Wayne "Boss" Castleman and Florine Miller Castleman. She is survived by her sons, Nolan Meyers of Elizabethtown, Troy Meyers of Atlanta, GA, and Coby Meyers of Chicago, IL.; one daughter, Cindy Horn of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Donald Castleman and John Castleman both of Elizabethtown; one sister, Jane McCoy of Hodgenville; and five grandchildren, Ashley Hawkins, Amanda Horn, Iman and Noor Haque-Meyers, and Dallin Worrill-Meyers. The funeral is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Davis officiating. Burial to follow at Middle Creek Baptist cemetery in Larue County. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Allen Smothers
Allen Smothers, 70 of Cecilia, died Tuesday, April 27. 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. He was a native of Hardin County and an Ordained Deacon and Charter member of Rough Creek Baptist Church. He retired from Crucible Steel after 33 years and was the Owner of Allen's Small Engine Repair Shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Sarah Ellen Goodman Smothers and a brother, Melvin Smothers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Darlene Goodman Smothers; one son, Allen Wayne Smothers of Cecilia; three brothers, Alvey Toby Smothers, Everett Smothers and Ernest (Joyce) Smothers all of Elizabethtown and two sisters, Stella (Billy) Hyatt of Decatur, AL and Leona (Muriel) Yates of Cecilia. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Smothers and Rev. John R. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Pole Bridge cemetery in Eastview. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continue after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Antonio Menendez, 94 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Baptist Hospital East. A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at KY Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff.
Mary Louise Edmondson
Mary Louise Edmondson, 91 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at her home. She was a native of Muskegon, MI and a member of St. James Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Millard Edmondson; her parents, Robert M. and Ruth M. Ammond Flowers; one brother, Robert Flowers and two sisters, Geraldine Carroll and Ruth Ferguson. She is survived by four sons, William H. (Mauhee) Edmondson, Joseph M. (Patricia "Lou") Edmondson and John Edward (Sheryl) Edmondson all of Elizabethtown and Robert M. Edmondson of Uncasville, CT; two daughters, Ruth Ann Edmondson and Mary Ellen (Ronnie) Bryan all of Elizabethtown; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. William L. Fichteman officiating. Burial will follow in St. James cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. There will be a Prayer Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Church.
