Dorothy Evelyn Bush
Dorothy Evelyn Bush, 81 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Kensington Manor Nursing Home. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Cecilia Baptist Church and the Hardin County Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Bush and her parents, Jesse J. and Susie Genrose Stewart Buckles. She is survived by two sons, Robert Joseph (Rebecca) Bush and James Randall (Debbie) Bush all of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Mildred (Henry) Owsley of Elizabethtown and Susie (Paul) Grooms of Jeffersonville, IN; five grandchildren, Robert J. Bush, II, Melanie C. Bush, Nancy A. Bush (Jeff) McCoy, Randall Casey Bush and Tyler Ray Bush; two step grandchildren, Dustin (Kristin) Cain and Jon C. Cain; four great grandchildren, Brittany Chenault, J. T. Chenault, Dillan Baird and Camden McCoy. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Don Flanigan officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Lizzie Compton
Lizzie Compton, 98, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Hardin County, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Compton, in 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Marcella Morgan and Bernard and Alice L. Hager all of Elizabethtown, three granddaughters, Lynn Hager Durnil and John of Goshen, KY; Karen D. Hager of Elizabethtown and Robin Morgan Hoefer and David of Louisville, three great grandchildren, Logan Durnil, Sarah Durnil and Wyatt Hoefer. There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home.
Anna S. Curry
Anna S. Curry, 95, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Atria Assisted Living. She was a native of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband Conrad K. Curry; her parents, Albert and Alma Kessy Shuster. She is survived by her son, Conrad (Cinda) Curry III of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Christopher James Curry and Michelle Newlon; four great-grandchildren, Xander Martin, Jake Newlon, Devin Curry, and Cohen Curry. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania.
Mary Josephine Jones
Mary Josephine Jones, 86 of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County and was a 75+ year member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the DAR Chapter in Elizabethtown and was a Genealogist. She was a founding board member of the Hardin County History Museum and was the former editor of Bits and Pieces, a local history newsletter. She was a local historian and she donated her energies to the study and preservation of the history of Hardin County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund Irwin and Margaret Settle Richerson and a sister, Margaret Settle Crafton. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Allison Jones; one son, J.A. "Jay" (Carolyn) Jones, Jr. of Lexington and one granddaughter, Jennifer L. Jones of New York, NY. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in E'town City cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home and continues from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Hardin County History Museum or Memorial United Methodist Church.
Jerry Ray Allen
Jerry Ray Allen, born August 27, 1950 in Elizabethtown, went to his heavenly home July 5th at 6:45 p.m. at Nortons Hospital in Louisville. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family that he cared so much for. For 30 years he lived in Nicholasville and was a businessman and attended Nicholasville Baptist Church. An avid U.K. fan and held season tickets for years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and graduated from North Hardin High School in 1969. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jennifer Allen; his father, Cook Allen and sister, Candy Brown. He is survived by two sons of Nicholasville, Joseph Heath Allen and Jennifer and Jerry Ray Allen, Jr and Tiffany; his mother, Lola Allen of Elizabethtown; sisters, Carolyn Matherly and Bill, Linda Fulkerson and Tom, Pam Bernard and Mike and Tammy Johnson and Gary; brothers, Sonny Allen and Brenda, Jackie Allen and Diane and Mark Allen and Cindy. He also has four grandchildren, Laura, Taylor, Kendall and Luke all of Nicholasville. They lovingly called him "Grumpy". He is also survived by 25 nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Central Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Upton cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Central Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund.
Jack L. Gearheard
Jack L. Gearheard, 86 of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Kensington Manor. He was a native of Kremlin, OK and a member of Glendale Christian Church. He served in the Marine Corp during WWII and was the past owner of Marj and Jacks Sewing Center. He was preceded in death by two wives, Frances Gearheard and Marjorie Gearheard; a son, Jack L. Gearheard, Jr.; his parents, John Nelson and Melvina Drage Gearheard and five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one son, John (Linda) Gearheard of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Ginger (Jeff) Barnes and Glenda (Nick) Murphy all of Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Glendale Christian Church with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany cemetery in Valley Station. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Arthur Lee Mills
Arthur Lee Mills, 85, of Hodgenville, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at his residence. He was a Jefferson County native, a WWII Navy veteran and a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church since 1956. He was retired from General Electric, was a rural route postal Carrier, an L & N Railroad worker and a member of Woodman of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Mills, by two brothers, Ottis Lenon Mills and Paul Mills, by a sister, Lillian Cermake and by a daughter, Patty Carlisle. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Mills, one daughter, Jenny Puckett of Elizabethtown, 3 grandchildren, Kim (Scott)Kerr, Timmy (Natalie) Puckett and Missy (Scott) Keplinger and 6 great grandchildren, Kyle Keplinger, Whitney Puckett, Andy Kerr, Jacob Kerr, Joshua Kerr and Emily Kerr. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Valley Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Kerr and Rev. Howard Prior officiating. Burial will be in Valley Creek cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home.
Erma June Strange
June Strange, 88 of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Akron, Ohio and was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. She was the owner of June's Beauty Shop and a member of Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Strange; her parents, Franklin Peter and Erma Petty Grantz and a brother, Ronald Franklin Grantz. She is survived by three sons, Robert Lee "Bob" Strange of Henderson, Nevada, William Terry "Bill" Strange, II of Clarksville, TN and Patrick Joe "Pat" Strange of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren, Robert, Bethany, LeAnn, Sara, Jennifer, Jon and Loryn and ten great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
Robert W. Ward
Robert Wendell Ward, 68, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of McComb, IL, an Air Force veteran and was retired as manager of Steak and Shake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Stella Ward. He is survived by his wife Mary Reese Ward, by two sons, Tim (Carrie) Ward and Rob Ward all of Elizabethtown, one daughter, Machelle Shear of Colorado, one brother, Hugh (Cathy) Ward of Port Charlotte, FL and three grandchildren, Kristen Ward, Blake Ward and Paige Ward. There will be a graveside service at Noon on Monday at Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home.
