Helen Geraldine Cowley
Helen Geraldine Cowley, 84, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at her residence. The Hardin County native was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Cowley and by her parents, Robert and Mary Elizabeth Eubank Tillotson. She is survived by a son, Rev.Rick Cowley of Clearwater, FL, three daughters, Linda Harper of Dunedin, FL, Sandra (Kenneth) Gray of Nicholasville and Laura (Peter) Nolan of Elizabethtown, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 9 at Brown Funeral Home Rev. Rick Cowley and Pastor Dana Beland officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may go to Hosparus of Central Kentucky or to Trinity Wesleyan Church.
Thomas Edward Hall
Thomas Edward Hall, M.D. 78 of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. Hall practiced radiology in Bowling Green for approximately 25 years and then at Ireland Army Hospital. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School, graduated with high honors from the University of Louisville, and was a graduate of the University of Louisville Medical School. He interned and served in the United States Navy. He did his residency in Radiology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Hall was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the Kentucky and American Medical Associations, President of the Bowling Green Rotary Club and the Kentucky Radiological Society. He was the son of the late Lewis Hamilton and Jessie Ina Morris Hall of Elizabethtown.. He is survived by his wife, Kilcha Min Hall of Elizabethtown; four daughters, Robbin Ree Hall of Louisville, Susan Stacey (Jim) Pincham of Tacoma, Washington, Hope Elizabeth Cloud and Jennifer Jessica Hall of Nashville, TN; one grandson, Warren Hall Cloud and one brother, Larry J. Hall, M.D. of Elizabethtown. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Hukju Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday and continue after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Duel L. Denham
Duel L. Denham, 86, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, December 4, 2009 at his resdience. The Edmonson County native was a WWII Army veteran and a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church..He retired from civil service in 1981. He served in the 16th Armoured Division as a Medic in WWII. He loved flying and had a private flying license and he also loved golf. He was preceded in death by his parents Berry and Flossie Ray Denham, by a brother, Morris Denham and by a sister Margery Rountree. He is survived by his wife, Doris Ray Denham, one son David L. Denham (Linda) of Elizabethtown, two sisters, Loreda Vincent (Leroy) of Brownsville and Thelma Green (Bobby) of Morgantown, two grandsons, Chris Denham (Feleshia) and Seth Denham and a sister-in-law, Zula Ray McCombs of Bowling Green. The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral with Rev. Bill Langley officiating. Burial will be in KY Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Joseph Marion Ritchie
Joseph Marion Ritchie, 67, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 surrounded by family. He was born September 7, 1942, a native of Meade County, and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He retired as a purchasing manager from Gates Rubber Company after 30 years of service. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1966, was part of the Western Kentucky Basketball team, a founding member of Phi Lamba Alpha now Lamba Chi Alpha, very active in mentoring Junior Achievement, and an avid outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Spaulding and Rosalia Hughes Ritchie; one sister, Delores Ritchie Ilario. He is survived by three daughters, Robin (Mike) Goff of Summersville, Autumn (Jon) Burgess of Elizabethtown, and Sara Jo (Jeff) Best of Rineyville; four grandchildren, Madeline, Jonathan, Ethan, and Owen; one step granddaughter, Ann-Michael; the mother of his children, Sarah Ritchie Dennis of Elizabethtown; a special friend, Linda Roth of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Liz (Fred) Wheatley and Shirley (Jerry) Miles all of Brandenburg; one brother-in-law, Bruno Ilario of Brandenburg; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The funeral is Friday at 1 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Chuck Walker officiating. Burial to follow at St. George Catholic cemetery in Brandenburg. Visitation is Thursday from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday. A prayer vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Attis Waldon Bennett
Attis Waldon Bennett, 83 of Cecilia, died Wednesday, May 19. 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Russell County and was a member of Glendale Christian Church. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and the Korean War and he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post #113, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Purple Heart Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonah and Lalie Floyd Bennett and two sisters, Imogene Bell and Dean Bernard. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jeane Barnes Bennett of Cecilia; four sons, Dwight (Charlotte) Bennett, David (Val) Bennett and Dennis Bennett all of Indianapolis, IN and Ken (Karen) Shearwood, III of Cincinnati, OH; four daughters, Sandy (Tim) Rohling and Amy (Mike) Bell all of Cincinnati, Cindy (William) Simpson of Jamestown and Tina (John) Hennis of Indianapolis; three sisters, Pauline Flanagan of Somerset, Doris Gunter of Cincinnati and Delpha Moore of North Dakota; a special Dear Friend, John D. Ward of Huntsville, AL; 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Glendale Christian Church with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church.
Ellen Frances Beeler
Ellen Frances Beeler, 91, died Tuesday May 18, 2010 at Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville. She was a native of Jefferson County and a member of St. James Catholic Church. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Beeler; her parents, Joseph A. and Lillian Catherine Schardein Vonsick; and two brothers, Joseph A. Vonsick Jr. and James L. Vonsick. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Charles) Solar of Elizabethtown; one sister, Norma J. McAuliffe of Louisville; two grandchildren, Elesha C. and Allison R. Solar; and five step great-grandchildren. The funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Stanley Osborne and Rev. Mike Tobin officiating. Burial to follow at St. James cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday. There will be a Prayer Vigil service at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the American Red Cross.
Avanell Brown
Avanell Brown, 87 of Cecilia, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County and was a born again christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirrion Brown; her parents, Virgil and Mabel Hash Elliott; a brother, Rufus Elliott; two sisters, Aloma Butterworth and Ollie Peters and two grandchildren, Stephanie Simoneit and Michael Singer. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Tony) Singer of Rineyville and Faith (Tim) Gage of Cecilia; two sons, Larry (Diana) Brown and Kenneth (Martha) Brown all of Cecilia; one brother, Aubrey Elliott of Cecilia; one sister, Wanda Elliott of California; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Open Valley Baptist Church with Brothers James Johnson, Malcolm Doyle and Jeff Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Howevalley cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church.
Harold Edward Dunaway
Harold Edward Dunaway, 58 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Louisville and a member of Cecilia Baptist Church. He was an Attorney for the Department of Public Advocacy and a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Hardin County Bar Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J. and Aletha Bryant Dunaway. He is survived by his wife, Madeleine Mayne Dunaway; one daughter, Kerri L. (Nate) Betancourt of Jeffersonville, IN; one son, Allan E. Dunaway of Louisville; one brother, Don Dunaway of Louisville; four grandchildren, Colin and Evan Dunaway and Tyler and Alleigh Betancourt and a special friend, Kristen Dunaway of Louisville. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Erdie Carter, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Paul Buckles
Paul David Buckles, 86, went to be with his heavenly Father, Saturday, November 21, 2009, at his home on New Glendale Road, Elizabethtown. He was a native of Hardin County, a WWII Navy veteran and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was retired from Ft. Knox where he was a refrigeration mechanic. He was a life long cattle farmer with a love of long-horn cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buckles, a daughter Laura Jo Crawley, a brother, Clyde Buckles and two sisters, Ruth Franklin and Myrtle Jump. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn Buckles, two sons David Buckles (Pam) of Elizabethtown and Dwayne Buckles (Mary) of Lexington, one brother, Clint Buckles (Lillian) of Elizabethtown, four grandchildren, Will Buckles, Alex Buckles, C. J. Buckles and Alecia Oldham and one step great grandchild, Elizabeth Oldham. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Osborne and Rev. Kevin Baker officiating. Burial will be in St. James cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
