Mazie Decker
Mazie Decker, 96, of Louisville, formerly of Hardin County, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Meadowview Health and Rehab in Louisville. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doss Decker, her parents, Monroe and Laura Hayes Woosley, by 3 brothers, John Henry Woosley, Harvey Woosley and Irvin Woosley and by 2 sisters, Tanzy Woosley and Pansy Douglas. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday. Expressions of sympathy may go to the American Cancer Society or to the donors favorite charity.
Laura Evelyn Bair
Laura Bair, 71, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at her residence. She was a native of Governers Island in New York, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, worked as a store manager for Cato department store, and worked as a store manager for Dawahares department store. She was a member of The American Legion Auxillary, a volunteer for Hospice, a member of MUMC, served as president for Seekers Sunday School Class, chairperson of the Stewardship Committee, served a 3 year term as president of The Republican Women's Club for Hardin County, volunteered as a coordinator and office manager for Ron Lewis, was a secretary for Pop Worner Football in Columbus, Georgia, a cheerleader coordinator for Edgewood Pop Worner Football, and volunteered for the youth football and baseball leagues. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorothy Smith; and one sister, Geraldine Benfer. She is survived by her husband, Norman Bair; two sons, Norman (Lisa) Bair II of Louisville, and Mark Bair of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Tiffany Bair of Cary North Carolina; two brothers, Charles Smith Jr. and John Smith; four sisters, Dorothy Gladfelter, Linda McKinney, Irene Waltemyer, and Cheryl Weaver; and four grandchildren, Mark Allen Bair Jr., Elizabeth Bair, Patricia Bair all of Columbus, Georgia, and Christian Bair of Louisville. The funeral is Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mary Lee Tabb
Mary Lee Tabb, 69 of Winchester, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Central Baptist Church in Winchester. While growing up in Elizabethtown, she attended Severns Valley Baptist Church. She worked in the loan department at Chase Bank in Lexington. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Lee "Shorty" and Mary Juanita Murphy Vertrees; and one sister, Susan Robertson. She is survived by her husband, William J. Tabb; two sons, James L. (Kathy) Tabb of Wellington and Duke C. (Lana) Tabb of Lexington; one daughter, Polly (Nels) Anderson of Lexington; one sister, Claudette "Sissy" Seabourn of Dickson, TN; and two grandchildren, Nicole Marie Anderson and Matthew Anderson both of Lexington. The funeral is Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Roger McCurry officiating. Burial to follow at Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Edna Joiner
Edna Marie "Nina" Sadler Joiner, 88, died Friday, July 23, 2010 in Murfreesboro, TN. She was a native of Warren County, KY, a member of Heartland Church of Christ, past president of Hardin County Homemakers and den mother for Cub Scouts. She was very involved in her church and opened her home to foster children for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde "Bill" Joiner, by her parents, John Wesley and Lennie Frances Vaughn Sadler, by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by two sons, Larry (Linda Carol) Joiner of Ft. Myers, FL and Darrell (Linda Bennett) Joiner of Rineyville, one daughter, Connie Joiner (Denny) Simpson of Murfreesboro, TN, 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home with Jeff Noel officiating. Visitation begins at 12 Noon today. Thelma Higdon Clemons
Thelma Higdon Clemons, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Grayson County and a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clemons; and her parents, James L. and Annie Laurie Mudd Higdon. She is survived by two sons, Bruce Justin Ferriell of Elizabethtown and Mark James (Paula) Ferriell of Louisville; four daughters, Judith Katherine Ferriell of Phoenix, AZ, Victoria E. Ferriell of Elizabethtown, Patricia F. (Joe) Biszat of Lexington, and Laura F. (Clark) Ouellette of Elizabethtown; one sister, Dorothy H. Lush of Louisville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral is Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial to follow in St. James cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mary Beachie Houston Fraze
Mary Beachie Houston Fraze, 82 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at her residence. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Tunnel Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Frank Fraze and her parents, Atwood and Ruby Goodin Houston. She is survived by three sons, Larry (Rita) Fraze of Munfordville, Terry (Ruth Ann) Fraze of Hodgenville and Roger Fraze of Elizabethtown; four daughters, Charlotte Taylor, Elaine (John) Knight and Sandy (Ronnie) Murphy all of Elizabethtown and Kay (Don) George of Tulia, TX; one treasured brother, Hubert (Jean) Houston of Elizabethtown; a loving cousin, Martha Martin; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Mary Elsie Keplinger
Mary Elsie Keplinger, 90, of Elizabethtown, left her residence to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, November 11. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 11, 1919, in Hart County. Elsie was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church. She was also a retired seamstress from E'town Sportswear, an avid quilter, a gifted cook, gardener and extremely devoted to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Orville Keplinger; by her parents, Fielden and Bessie Mary Walsh Helm; by a brother, Walter Helm; and by four sisters, Ruth "Aunt Ushie" Dye, Marie Sherrard, Odell Helm-Cook and Ermin Wood Helm and by a grandson, Robert Corey Mudd. She is survived by two sons, Robert Eugene (Doris) Keplinger and Calvin (Paula) Keplinger both of Elizabethtown, four daughters, Beverly (Clyde) Grimes and Mary Lois (Don) Hill both of Elizabethtown, Linda Mudd of Bardstown and Sandy Ray of White Mills, one brother, Darnell Helm of Elizabethtown, two sisters, Minnie (Raymond) Woosley of Elizabethtown and Dorothy May of Louisville, 12 grandchildren, Ronnie Keplinger, Cindy Roby, Tammy VanderMeiren, Nicole Hines, Mary Donna Atcher, Amanda Simpson, Tracy Lehman, Brian Keplinger, Casey Bush, Meagan Ray, Rachel Ray, Alison Ray; 11 great grandchildren and a special cousin, Ruby Stettler. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Pryor and Rev. Scott Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Robert Thomas Ashlock
Robert Thomas Ashlock, 90 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. The Hardin County native served 21 years in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific, Flew rescue in a PBY and served in the New Hebrides Islands, Solomon Islands and the Phillipines. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association in Louisville. He retired in 1978 from the Ft. Knox Post Office. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Lela Mae Harrison Ashlock and a brother, Freddie Ashlock. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret Taylor Ashlock and one brother, Irvin Harrison (Jerri) Ashlock of Cecilia. Graveside services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at White Mills cemetery with Hezzie Williams officiating. There will be no visitation and the family requests no flowers.
Elizabeth "Beth" Jeanne Hager
Elizabeth "Beth" Jeanne Hager, 49 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Cherry Point, NC and a member of St. James Catholic Church. She worked at I Pay Technologies for seven years. She is survived by her husband, Ralph J. Hager; two sons, Robert Hager of Elizabethtown and Joshua (Cheryl) Hager of Brandenburg; her father, Matthew Hynes of Oil City, PA; her mother, Jane Stromberg Vanderploeg of Foryth, MO; three brothers, Matthew Hynes of Virginia, Daniel Carlson of New York City and David Carlson of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Patricia Sterm of Foryth, MO and Vonda Bellmore of Rapid City, SD. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in KY Veterans cemetery Central. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the American Cancer Society.
