Michael Eugene Phillips, 51, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday March 24, 2010 at Fordsville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fordsville, Kentucky. He was a native of Hardin County. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Martin and one grandchild. He is survived by his mother, Ruby Phillips Martin; one son, Christopher Polk of Flint, MI; four brothers, Barry (Lisa) Phillips of Elizabethtown, Terry(Stacey) Martin of Louisville, Marcus (Mary) Martin of Columbus, GA, and Timmy (Shelia) Martin of Norfolk, VA; three sisters, Brenda Johnson of Paducah, Anna Marie Martin and Linda (Brendon) Hamler both of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren; aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. John Hamler and Bro. Eugene Owens officiating. Burial to follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Zella Ann Gent DeSpain
Zella Ann Gent DeSpain, 75, of ELizabethtown, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Pike County and a member of Hardin County United Baptist Church. She will be truely missed. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Giles Gent and by her parents, Wess and Annise Overbee Griffey. She is survived by her husband of six and a half years, Russell DeSpain, five sons, Giles Gent, Randy Gent, Michael Gent, David Gent and Dallas Gent all of Elizabethtown, 3 daughters, Sandy (Bruce) Walby of Rapid City, SD, Linda (Jasper) Pearl of Elizabethtown and Sharon (Jerry) Stinnett of Leitchfield, two brothers, Jack Griffey of Pikeville and Ronnie Griffey of Minneapolis, MN, one sister, Aldie Cavens of Pikeville, 2 step sons, Larry DeSpain and Arley (Delorise) DeSpain all of Hodgenville, one step daughter, Charlene (Paul) Baumgardner of Hodgenville, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. Freddie Vertrees officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mabel Stewart
Mabel Jeffries Stewart, 102, of Cecilia, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Kensington Manor. The Hardin County native was a member of Stephensburg United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was a member of Stephensburg Homemakers and was their first president in 1939 and she worked at the Peoples Store for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Stewart, by her parents, James A. and Janie Ann Patterson Jeffries, by a son, Charles H. Stewart, by a daughter, Jane Catherine Hart, by a brother, Herbert Jeffries, by a sister, Nell Stewart and by a grandson, Kevin Stewart. She is survived by one son, Kenneth (Jean) Stewart of Cecilia, by four grandchildren, Kerry Hart, Sheila Blain, Kathy McKinney and Pam Huter, 8 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a son-in-law, Earl Hart of Cecilia. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Don Sexton officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Terri Denise McIntosh
Terri Denise McIntosh, 40, of Indiana, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Saturday , March 20, 2010, at Hospice Inpatient Facility in Indiana. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of First Christian Church. She is survived by her parents, Dennis L. and Barbara Ann Thomas; one son, Clinton Jared (Libby) Kilgus of El Paso, Texas; one grandmother, Theresa Hall of Elizabethtown; and one granddaughter, Elly Kilgus of El Paso, Texas. Visitation is Wednesday March 24, 2010 from 1 to 3 p.m at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valley Creek cemetery.

Clarence Samuel Casteel
Clarence Samuel Casteel, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, November 19, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Hardin County and a brick mason. He is survived by 3 daughters, Alice Knight of Elizabethtown, Brenda Smith of Mason, OH and Mary Jo Shaw of Louisville; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Cremation was chosen. There will be no services.

Vada Lucille Whitler
Vada Lucille Whitler, 99 of Elizabethtown, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at North Hardin Health and Rehab. in Radcliff. She was a native of Breckinridge County and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was the co-owner of Twin Beauty Shop in Cloverport. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Whitler; her parents, Arthur Thomas and Alma Lee Coffman Martin; two brothers, Finis Martin and Percy Martin and two sisters, Lila Pearson and Lena Wilson. She is survived by two sisters, Louise Martin of Cloverport and Loretta Sawyer of Lancaster, PA. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. EDT at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Rachel Marshall and Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Graveside services will be at 12:45 p.m. EDT at Whitler cemetery in Cloverport. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and continue after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Haynes Alva Barry
Haynes Alva Barry, 93 of Vine Grove, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Woodland Terrace Health Care Facility. He was a native of Hardin County and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He attended Valley View Baptist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel. He retired from Ft. Knox Civil Service after 33 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Miller Barry and his parents, Emery D. and Jeannie Willie Fox Barry. He is survived by two sons, Robert Barry and Stewart Barry both of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, Forrest Barry of Charlestown, IN and one sister, Susan Frances Thornberry of Sumter, SC. A Graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and continue after 10 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home.

William Albert Metcalf
William Albert Metcalf, 76 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was a native of Holy Cross, KY and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the American Legion Post #113, 40 and 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Shepherdsville and the Disabled American Veterans. He was the retired Area Commander for the American Legion Post #113. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Elizabeth Nalley Metcalf and five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Kittie Joe Bird Metcalf, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Jesse Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Beth Elaine Caruso
Beth Elaine Caruso, 56 of Elizabethtown, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010 at her home after battling cancer. She was a tireless volunteer, Master gardner and spent her life helping others. She retired from Civil Service after 27 years of working with the youth of our military families. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Dale Smith and her sister, Claudia S. Smith. She is survived by her husband, Joseph D. Caruso, III; her mother, Janet E. Smith of Barstow, CA; a daughter, Roxanna S. Caruso (Tim) Huffer; a son, Robert J. Caruso; three grandchildren and friendships too numerous to list. The family wishes to gather from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the garden of the Brown Pusey House. She asked that condolences and sympathies be made by planting a tree, bush or flower in her memory.
