Paula Jean Skillman
Paula Jean Skillman, 49 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at her home. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of First Baptist Church where she was on the Kitchen Committee and was a member of the Choir. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and was a secretary for 28 years in Labor and Delivery at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest C. and Pauline E. Green Skillman. She is survived by one son, Jaron C. Skillman of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Shayla E. Skillman of Elizabethtown; five brothers, Charles M. (Ann) Skillman of Radcliff, Billy J. (Quinn) Skillman of Arizona, David L. Skillman of Kansas, Carl L. Skillman of Elizabethtown and Shannon L. Skillman of Louisville; three sisters, Debora E. (Elmer) Handley, Pamela J. Skillman and Sherrian D. Skillman all of Elizabethtown and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. B. T. Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9 a.m. Friday at the Church.
Charles Richard Duncan
Charles Richard Duncan, 77, of Cecilia, died Thursday April 8th, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Hardin County and an active member of Blue Ball Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, trustee, and clerk of the church for many years. He was a Retired Tool and Die Maker for Bussman Manufacturing, as well as a farmer. He served in the army and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Howevalley- Vertrees Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Elaine Duncan; his parents, Lily Rose Fryer and Evan Duncan; one brother, William Marion Duncan; two sisters, Alma Dennison and Marilyn Daniels. He is survived by his wife, Ida Shartzer Heibert Duncan of Cecilia; three daughters, Cynthia (Ben) Graves of Murray, KY, Mae Lynda (Danny) Goodman and Robin (Jeff) Burris both of Cecilia; one step-daughter, Pamela Sue (David) Vowels of Cecilia; one son, Robert (Jennifer) King of Cecilia; two step-sons, Kenneth Marvin (Susan) Heibert of Charleston, IN and James Michael (Stephanie) Heibert of Elizabethtown; one brother, Willis Duncan of Glasgow; three sisters, Aline (Harold) Lewis of Glendale, and Evelyn (Ollie) Emerine of Elizabethtown, Beverly Ackley of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren, Charlie Graves, Brandi, Amber, and Madison Cornett, Deserae Goodman (Chris) Miller, Kathryn Goodman, and Alex and Wilson King; five step-grandchildren, Kimberly Dawn (Scott) Booker, Mallory Lynn Heibert, Lindsey K. Heibert, Colton Michael Heibert, and Clayton Thomas Heibert; 2 step great-grandchildren, Morgan Marie Booker and James Connor Booker. The funeral is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Blue Ball Baptist Church with Brother Arnold Moon officiating. Burial to follow in Blue Ball cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a contribution to Blue Ball Baptist Church Building Fund.
Edward Joseph Schmuck
Edward Joseph Schmuck, 67, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at his residence. He was formerly from Owensboro and Flaherty and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was retired from civil service at Ft. Knox after 33 plus years and was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Elizabethtown Area Baseball Hall of Fame, was a former member of Tri State Officials Association and was a former member of Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission. He was an avid supporter of Elizabethtown High School, especially the Lady Panther Basketball team and the Lady Panther Volleyball team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Schmuck. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Crutcher Schmuck, two sons, Scott Edward Schmuck of Elizabethtown and Joseph Eugene (Cathy) Schmuck of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Matthew Edward Schmuck of Campbellsville, Sara Katherine (Katie) Schmuck and Stephen Allen Schmuck of Cincinnati, one sister, Mary Schmuck, RSM of Nazareth, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Don Granneman of St. Louis, many nieces and nephews and lots of dear friends. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home. Leslie Wilmoth
Leslie Hicks Wilmoth, Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army retired, 92 of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at his home. A native and life long resident of Hardin County, he was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a graduate of Lynnvale High School and received a certificate in Business Administration and Accounting from Bowling Green Business College, and was working on a degree in secondary education at Bowling Green College of Commerce when he joined the Army in January, 1942. He was assigned to General McArthur's headquarters in Australia in May, 1942 where he served as Administrative Assistant until December, 1945 achieving the rank of Warrant Officer. During WWII, he was also stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army Reserve from 1945 to 1948. He accepted a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Kentucky National Guard in 1949. Although he never personally led troops in combat, his expertise in military administration, logistics and intelligence services provided the necessary support for the troops. He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Japan. He was a graduate of the Army Supply Management School, Ft. Lee, VA, the Computer School at Ft. Mammoth, NJ, the Advanced Field Artillery School, Ft. Sill, OK and the Financial Supply Accounting School, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN. His military decorations include the Bronze Star and several campaign ribbons. He retired from military service after 29 years of service. While in Australia in WWII, he met and married
his wife of 65 years, Eileen O'Doherty of Southport, Queensland, Australia. Following retirement from federal civil service after 32 years of service at Ft. Knox as a supply management analyst, he founded the Wilmoth Nursery in 1973 and operated it until 2003. He was the editor and publisher of the Kentucky Kernal journal of the Kentucky Nut Growers Association from 1976 to 2006 and was elected Dean of the Kentucky Nut Growers Association in 2006. He was also a past president of the Ohio Nut Growers Association, an editor-in-chief of the Pomona fruit tree magazine, contributor to the book, Nut Tree Culture of North America, and wrote articles for the American Fruit Grower magazine. He was a self-taught, practicing horticulturalist specializing in nut tree propagation and was a consultant to the U. K. College of Agriculture for many years. He was a pioneer in developing new procedures for budding and grafting nut trees. Some of his grafted nut trees are in the National Arboretum in Washington, DC. He conducted a field day at his nursery to train others on nut tree propagation for 20 years. He is remembered for his stewardship of trees and the environment, and for promoting the education of his children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nephews and others. He was made a Kentucky Colonel in 1972. He was an outdoors enthusiast. His hobbies included boating, camping, fishing, hunting and hiking. He and his wife traveled widely including Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and England. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evan Wilmoth and Donnie Hicks Wilmoth; and three brothers, Clarence, George and Richard Wilmoth. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eileen O'Doherty Wilmoth of Elizabethtown; a sister, Frances Wilmoth Poteet of Elizabethtown; three children, Dr. Gregory (Cynthia) Wilmoth of Silver Spring, MD, Dr. Deborah Wilmoth of Perth, Australia and Catherine (Ronnie) Basham of Cecilia; four grandchildren, Cheryl Phelps (Carter) Christopher of Burke, VA, Channon Phelps (Brian) Minton of Elizabethtown, Ashley Basham of Cecilia and Rebecca Wilmoth (Mark) Uziel of Silver Spring, MD, three great grandchildren, Ian Chase Minton, William Uziel and Henry Christopher, 4 step grandsons, Jody, Jamie, Jason and Jeremy Basham, 10 step great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in St. James cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m.Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home.
Arnold David Hines
Arnold David Hines, 82, of Rineyville, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Breckinridge County, an Army Air Force veteran and retired from Kacee Construction Company and Garage Building which he owned. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Mary Nettie Aldridge Hines. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Kuhn Hines, one son, David Hines of Louisville, one daughter Elizabeth (Dale) Bindner of Louisville, one sister, Anna Reba Tucker of Louisville, 3 grandchildren, Heather Ann Bindner, Justin Dale Bindner and Megan Elise Hines and 2 great grendchildren, Anthony Ray Wilson and Justin Dale Bindner, Jr. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Rodney Harris officiating. Burial will be in Antioch United Church cemetery in Breckinridge County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Anna L. Elam
Anna L. Mobley Elam, 72, beloved wife of 1Sgt (Ret) Richard S. Elam, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Elizabethtown and had traveled to 37 of the 50 states as well as Iran, Germany, Lebanon, Greece, Turkey and Mexico. Prior to her death, Anna expressed that her life was good and that she was looking forward to being with God and her son Mark. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Daisy Mobley and a six year old son, Mark Anton Elam. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard S. Elam; a son, Christopher A. Elam of Elizabethtown and a grandson, Jonathan R. Elam. Anna's wish was that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis, TN. Services will be private.
Doris Jean Williams Bailey
Doris Jean Bailey, 79, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County, a member of Heaven Bound Baptist Church and was retired from the laundry at Ft. Knox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Durward L. "Dude" Bailey and by a son, Ronald Bailey. She is survived by 3 sons, Steve (Linda) Bailey, Roger (Theresa) Bailey and Billy (Christine) Bailey all of Elizabethtown, 3 daughters, Jenny (Louis) Lawson of Radcliff, Carla (Bill) Sallee of Elizabethtown and Ruth Van Tassel and her companion, John Dean of Greenbrier, TN, 3 brothers, Jimmy Williams, Freddie Williams and David Williams all of Elizabethtown, 3 sisters, Joyce Chaplin of DesMoines, Iowa, Martha Wiseman of Rineyville and Gayle Whelan of Flaherty, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home with Chaplain David Hicks and Rev. Gary Sharp officiating. Burial will be in Sycamore cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Diane Lavon Hubbard
Diane Lavon Hubbard, 63 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Robert Hubbard and six children. The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Worship Center with Pastor Tim Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in KY Veterans cemetery Central. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home and continue Friday after 9 a.m. at the church.
