Alma J. Tharpe
Alma J. Tharpe, 90 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Kensington Manor. She was a native of Rineyville and a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Hardin County Homemakers. She was formerly the kitchen manager at Stone Hearth. She was a loving mother, wonderful cook and had a great sense of humor and wonderful laugh. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Glenial Tharpe; her parents, Millard and Julia French Jenkins and five brothers and sisters, Ernest Jenkins, Elmer Jenkins, Millie Jenkins, Katheryn Hay and Agnita Dunn. She is survived by two sons, Dale (Shelia) Tharpe of Frankfort and Byron Tharpe of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Sharon (Ken) Jones of Louisville and Natalie O'Neal of Big Springs; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Cheryl, Tim, Allison Michelle, Kristopher, Bobby, Steven and Kelly and nine great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in St. James cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions for Masses.
Alfred Pleasonton
Alfred Pleasonton, 85, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of New York City, an Air Force veteran and a member of Community Unitarian Church in New Orleans. He spent 36 years in the military and worked as a researcher in Forestry Economics. His ancestor, Stephen Pleasonton, is credited with saving all the founding documents from destruction during the War of 1812. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene S. and Bronwin Chubb Pleasonton He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Alli Pleasonton, one daughter, Daphne Pleasonton of Doylestown, PA, three stepsons, Dr. Richard Seither of Elizabethtown, John Seither, and Thomas "Tuna" Seither both of New Orleans, LA, three step daughters, Sharon Dobard of Springfield, MO, Kathleen Optowsky and Allison Juge both of New Orleans and three grandchildren, Michael Pleasonton, Tess Sicklinger and Sebastian Sicklinger. Visitation is 11 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may go to the donor's favorite charity.
Alan Dean Ash
Alan D. "Deanie" Ash, 76 of Glendale, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Glendale and a member of Glendale Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Bussman/Cooper Industries after 40 years of employment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rose Lee Berry Ash; one sister, Mary Fuller and a brother, Roy Russell. He is survived by one daughter, Maria Goodman and her husband Chad of Cecilia; one son, Roy Alan Ash of Glendale; one sister, Alice Jean Rihn of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Ashlynn, Avery and Alivia Goodman; a niece, Debbie Gibson and two nephews, Jimbo and Michael Rihn. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Gilead Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Doris Jean Jeffries Proctor
Doris Jean Jeffries Proctor, 77, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her residence. She was a native of Hardin County, a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church and formerly worked at S.C. Barnes Insurance Agency for over ten years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Owsley and Nellie Lee Glasscock Jeffries and by a sister, Mildred J. Hubbard. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Floyd Proctor, one son, David (Pamela) Proctor of Elizabethtown, one daughter, Darlene (Perry) Malito of Elizabethtown, two brothers, Clifford Jeffries of Stephensburg and Russell (Nancy) Jeffries of Elizabethtown and three grandchildren, Derrick Proctor, Morgan Proctor and Paige Malito. The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Roger McCurry officiating. Burial will be in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Maxine Susan Keith
Maxine Susan Keith, 80 of Bardstown, died Monday June 13, 2011 at her residence. Born in Grenata, MS, she was a Certified Medical Tech who retired from Baptist Home East. She was a member of White Mills Christian Church for 47 years and will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Lena Kirksey and two husbands Birch Stevenson and Gilbert Keith, one son Barney Stevenson, and four brothers Ed, Bill, Melvin and Charles Kirksey and one sister Ruby Kirksey Bohr. She is survived by her daughter Freda Stevenson Sadler and her husband Ray Sadler of Bardstown, daughter-in-law Sharron "Cricket" Stevenson Gibson of White Mills, KY, three grand children Michael (Debbie) Goodman of Lebanon Juction, Jeffrey (Amy) Goodman of Coxs Creek, and Veronica (Kenny) Goodman Donahue of Bardstown. The funeral will be Friday 11 a.m. at White Mills Christian Church with Bro. Tim Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Clarkson cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take form in donations to White Mills Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice of Nelson County.
Willia Avery Heady
Willia Avery Heady, 93 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. She retired from Hardin County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melford L. "Speedy" Heady, her son, James Alexander Heady, her parent, Len and Edith Avery, a brother Raymond Avery and a sister Rudelle Duvall. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Darrell) Haynes of Elizabethtown; one brother, Russell Avery of Elizabethtown, six grandchildren Heather, (Gary) Clark, Whitney Abel, Meggan and Tiffany Heady, and Cara and Tori Fulkerson and eight great grandchildren. The memorial service will be Thursday 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Roger McCurray and Chaplain Keith Taylor officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles E. Weller
Charles E. Weller, 92 of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at North Hardin Health and Rehab. in Radcliff. He was a native of Alameda, CA and a lifetime member of the VFW #5904 and the DAV. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion Post #113. Charlie was a military man who dedicated his life to USA and all it stands for. He served all of us. As a soldier, he was in Europe during WWII, served in the Korean War and also in Vietnam. He was a proud American who was awarded the Bronze Star and many other Commendations. We as American citizens can be proud to have people like Charlie dedicating their lives to preserve the freedoms we enjoy in America. God Bless. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretchen Bourghart Weller; his parents, Oscar and Mable Egbert Weller; a daughter, Irma Knief and a step daughter, Margarete Fandel. He is survived by his friend, Charlie Hogan of Elizabethtown and some relatives in CA. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. James cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Terry Emily "Tater" Jackson
Terry Emily "Tater" Jackson, 82, of Rineyville, died Monday June 13, 2011 at her residence. She was a native of Johnson County and a former member of Old Union United Baptist Church in Staffordsville, KY. She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Idella Burchett and five sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her husband Walter Jackson, Jr. of Rineyville, her son James (Lucy) Jackson of Shelby Co., two daughters Linda (John) Mahoney of Rineyville and Shirley (Darrell) Holliday of West Liberty, six grandchildren Brent and John Holliday, Emily, Alanna, and Quinn Jackson, and Branden Vincent, and three great-grandchildren Journey and Landon Holliday and Edmond Lee Vincent. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 am at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Ward officiating. Burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continuing Thursday after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
