Pastor William "Bill" Phillips
Pastor William "Bill" Alfred Phillips, 44 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, January 9, 2011. He was a native of Cullman, AL, a 1984 graduate of Vinemont High School in Vinemont, AL and a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisiana. He was the current Pastor of Younger's Creek Baptist Church for four years. He is survived by his wife, Sheila McElroy Phillips; three sons, Matthew Phillips, Jonathan Phillips and Nathan Phillips all of Elizabethtown; his parents, Alfred and Shirley Phillips of Huntsville, AL; two brothers, Jeff (Tina) Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA and Tom Phillips of Missouri; his mother and father-in-law, Delton and Agnes McElroy of Cullman, AL; two nephews, Kyle Phillips and Lucas McElroy and a niece, Madison McElroy. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Younger's Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and continue Thursday after 10 a.m. at Younger's Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Cullman Public cemetery in Cullman, AL. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to the Phillips' Family Benefit Fund thru KNB Bank or Younger's Creek Baptist Church.
Curtis Aubern "C.A." Brown
Curtis Aubern Brown, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, following a two year struggle with prostate cancer. He was born on November 3, 1941 at home in Buffalo, KY and grew up in Buffalo Baptist Church. C.A., as he is affectionally called, has been a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church for almost forty years. He served in the past as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a Discipleship Training leader, and as a faithful member of the adult choir. His beautiful tenor voice was heard in solo and in a men's quartet. C.A. was always a Christian gentleman and always put the needs of others above his own. C.A. was educated at Buffalo School and was in the first graduating class of the then newly consolidated Larue County High School. He graduated from Campbellsville College and also from the Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville. His entire social work career included forty years of juvenile services in several areas. He served as a counselor and supervisor with KY State Social Services for 27 years, director of the Adolescent Unit for Lincoln Trail Hospital almost two years, Program Director of the Baptist Youth Ranch for eleven years, and as part time counselor with J. P. Interventions. C.A.'s counseling skills have touched the lives of many families and adolescents across the State of Kentucky. He was given several distinguished service awards during his career. After officially retiring, he became involved in the local CASA program and served as both mentor and trainer. He was also a member of Hardin Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. C.A. will be greatly missed by those who knew him and loved him. He will be remembered for his tenor voice, smile, wit and his gift of flowers from his flower garden. He most importantly, he was a man of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubern and Geneva Brown. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Eleanor Slate Brown, and his daughter, Elizabeth Ashley Brown of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Joan (Billy Joe) Percefull of Elizabethtown and Joyce (Royce) Riggs of Buffalo; nieces and nephews, Troy (Julie) Percefull, Randy (Libby) Riggs of Campbellsville and Pam (Charlie Sehlke) Riggs of George West, TX and great nieces and nephews, Heather and Mackenzie Brock, Lora Riggs, John and Luke Sehlke. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Severns Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Langley officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to Severns Valley Baptist Church Adult Music Ministry or CASA of the Heartland.
Jewel King Lawton
Jewel King Lawton, 69 of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from E'town Sportswear and Crucible. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Lawton, Jr.; her parents, Hubert and Betty Alice Williams Sanderson; three brothers, Woodson Sanderson, Charles Sanderson and William T. Sanderson and a sister, Alice Joyce Wiley. She is survived by one son, Marvin E. (Maria) King, Jr. of Louisville; three daughters, Margaret A. Price of Philadelphia, PA, Geraldine D. King and Valarie C. King both of Elizabethtown; two brothers, James Victor (Lynn) Sanderson and Hubert Sanderson, Jr. both of California; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Stewart and Niomai Jones both of Elizabethtown and Wanda Sanderson of Versailles; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. B. T. Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon National cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home.
John Everett Cooper, Jr.
John Everett Cooper, Jr. 70 of Radcliff, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 while attending services at Pond Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was a native of Lott, KY and was a member of Pond Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. He served in the U. S. Army and was a truck driver for OK Trucking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Irene and John E. Cooper, Sr.; one brother, Hugh Cooper and three sisters, Ida Cooper, Rosie Willard and Betty Whobrey. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Cooper; two sons, Ronnie Everett (Tonya) Cooper of Cecilia and Tony Lance Cooper of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Patsy (Jonathan) Graham of Hodgenville; four brothers, Homer Cooper of Bowling Green, James T. Cooper of Cecilia, Roland Cooper of Elizabethtown and Robert "Bob" Cooper of Cub Run; two sisters, Callie "Ruth" Ives of Elizabethtown and Dean Shearer of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, Jacob Bottoms, Chassity Bottoms, Chelsea Perez, Forrest Lance Cooper, Daisy Graham and Dimitri Everett Cooper and three great grandchildren, Ayla Perry, Jaylen Bottoms and Leo Perez. The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 noon at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. J. C. Ramsey and Bro. Jeff Burden officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Karen McCullum Black
Karen McCullum Black, 62 of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She retired from the Hardin County Circuit Court Clerks office and was the owner and operator of Hardin Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emily Perry McCullum. She is survived by her husband, James H. Black, Jr.; one daughter and her husband, Karim Ann and Ernie George of Versailles; one brother, Bruce McCullum of Milwaukee, WI; two sisters, Lee Skipworth of Elizabethtown and Perry Ann Grubbs of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren, Marcus, Morgan, Corey and Kayla Karen and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and continue after 12:00 noon Monday at the funeral home. Jack Franklin Reed
Jack Franklin Reed, Sr., 84 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, December 6, 2010 at his home. He was a native of Micajah, WV and was a member of the American Legion Post #113. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 25 years, having served during WWII. He also retired from Raytheon. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Reed and his parents, Ralph Elwood and Grace Zona Whitlow Reed and four brothers, James, Buddy, Junior and Robert Reed and two sisters, Mattie Reed and Margaret Klos. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Luong Reed; four sons, Clyde Reed and Jason Reed both of Lexington, Ronnie (Barbara) Reed of Colorado Springs, CO and Jack Reed of Norfolk, VA; two daughters, Joann Reed of Elizabethtown and Grace (Bill) Garren of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Rachel Gunning of Chicago, IL and Gertrude Burrell of Shawnee County, WV and six grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Webster officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Russell Larmar Allgood
Russell L. Allgood, 66, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his home with his family by his side. He was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church and was a member of the Custer Masonic Lodge #624 and the Order of Eastern Star Pirtle Chapter. He was a Graduate of Western Kentucky University and proudly served as a Captain and Ranger in the U.S. Army and was a real estate agent and auctioneer for more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Allgood; his father, Howard Russell Allgood and his mother Rudell Barnes. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Terri (Wendell) McDowell of Sonora, Gina (Terry) Broyles, Rhonda (Doug) Tate and Sandy (Randy) Humphrey all of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Terry (Sue) Allgood and Randy (Renae) Allgood both of Custer; one sister, Darlene (Kenneth) Hager of Constantine; his step mother, Alma Pile Allgood of Custer; grandchildren, Lucas Broyles, Ashley Broyles, Mason McDowell, Lindsey McDowell, Nicole Coogle, Zachary Humphrey, Samantha Tate and Libby Tate; two great-grandchildren, Dre and Layla Johnson; a special niece, Renee (Steve) Wright and several other nieces, nephews and extended family. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Sister Rose Marie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Dalena Jeanette Johnson
Dalena Jeanette Johnson, infant daughter of Courtney Bradley and Darnell Johnson, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her great grandmother, Lena Bradley. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Daniele Bryant and Darnell Johnson both of Philadelphia, Barbara Wesson of Rineyville and Scott Bradley of Elizabethtown; great grandparents, Jeanie Van Name of Rineyville, Ruth Bryant of Elizabethtown and Barbara Johnson of Philadelphia. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Henry officiating. Burial will follow in North Hardin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
