William Harlan Ferguson
William Harlan Ferguson, 71 of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Grayson County and a member of Heaven Bound Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was a retired car salesman. He is survived by three sons, Richard Ferguson of Norman, OK, Bill (Chris) Ferguson of Merritt Island, FL and Robert Ferguson of Destin, FL; two daughters, Sandra Edwards of Elizabethtown and Amy Ferguson of Louisville; one sister, Mary (Kenneth) Puckett of Elizabethtown and several grandchildren. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at KY Veterans cemetery Central with Rev. Gary Sharp officiating.
Russell Bentley
Russell Bentley, 71 of Cecilia, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his home. He was a native of Knott County and a 1957 graduate of Rineyville High School. He was a printer for Hub City Printing since 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Nora Smith Bentley; one brother, Billy D. Bentley and a sister, Norma Bentley. He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Robin (Steve) Goodman of Elizabethtown; one sister, Airlene Bentley of Elizabethtown and six brothers, Carol J. Bentley, Hagan Bentley, Darrell Bentley, Kelly T. Bentley, Dexter Bentley and Kirby Bentley and two grandchildren, Stephen M. Goodman and Andrew A. Goodman. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Margaret "Lisa" Phillips
Margaret Levette "Lisa" Phillips, 46 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Middlesboro, KY and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was a clerk at Goodwill Industries. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zelma Simpson and Randall Head; one brother, Tommy Simpson and a sister, Jessica Bray. She is survived by her husband, Barry Phillips of Elizabethtown; three brothers, James Simpson of Middlesboro, Leon Simpson of Elizabethtown and Vincent (Jeanette) Simpson of Texas; two sisters, Nancy Phillips of Elizabethtown and Martha Meriwether of Louisville; a special mother-in-law, Ruby Martin of Elizabethtown; special uncle, Jesse Simpson of Middlesboro and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Eugene Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Cyrus Mitchell
Cyrus W. Mitchell, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Sophie, WV, was a WWII Navy Veteran and a Korean and Vietnam War Army veteran. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church , a member of the VFW and retired ten years ago from the Hardin County Road Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley W. and Ossie Belle Shumate Mitchell, three brothers, one sister, all of Virginia and a grandchild, Michael Douglas Mitchell He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Phipps Mitchell, one son Douglas Eric (Marie) Mitchell of Hodgenville, one daughter, Nona Melissa (Jack) Rickett of Cave City, three brothers, Charlie Mitchell and Gayle Mitchell both of Troutdale, VA and Dale Mitchell of Emory, VA, one sister, June Osborne of Sugar Grove, VA, four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Chambers officiating. Burial, with militaty honors, will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Linda Joyce Lewis
Linda Joyce Lewis, 68, of Shepherdsville, died Friday, Nov. 26, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was a native of Jefferson County, Ky. She is preceded in death by her husband John Gordon Lewis on 10-29-1997; her parents Gus and Mayme Lee Oliver Martin; and a brother Charles Martin. She is survived by a son John Bryan (Debbie) Lewis of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Diane (Carroll) Barr of Mt. Washington and Lorie (Daniel) Gilpin of Fisherville; a brother Lloyd Martin of Evansville, Indiana; two sisters, Vivian Whitmore of Elizabethtown and Carolyn Tamas of Louisville; six grandchildren, Bradley, Amy, Ben, Madalyn, Kathleen, and Gracie; and a great grand son Jaydon. The funeral for Mrs. Lewis is at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and will continue after 9 Monday.
William Taylor Davenport
William Taylor "Bill" Davenport, 82, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, November 24, at his residence. He was a Hardin County native, a WWII Army veteran and retired from the Elizabethtown Post Office after 30 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, a Kentucky Colonel and formerly coached Little League baseball and football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Beechie Edelin Davenport. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Meredith Davenport of Elizabethtown; 2 sons, Michael Davenport of Horse Cave and Billy (Judy) Davenport of Rineyville; 4 grand daughters, Wendy, Sarah, Ellen and Rachael and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3 pm Sunday at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Thornton officiating. Visitation will be from 1 - 3 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
Danny Crewz
Danny Lee Crewz, 50, of Rineyville, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his residence. He was a native of Hardin County, a member of St. John Catholic Church and formerly worked for RBT. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Crewz. He is survived by his daughter, Emily Crewz of Elizabethtown, his mother, Marcella Crewz of Elizabethtown, one brother, Dale (Karen) Crewz of Elizabethtown, one sister, Barbara (Dale) Givan of Elizabethtown, two nieces, Leann Givan and Michelle Crewz , two nephews, Ryan Crewz and Jared Givan and a host of special caregivers, Wendy W., Kelsi, Cheri, Barbara, Andrea, Wendy and Rhonda. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Dan Lincoln, Rev. Stanley Osborne and Rev. Steve Hill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home. There will be a vigil service at Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to ALS Association of Kentucky or to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
Lura Elliott Goodman
Lura Elliott Goodman, 98, of Radcliff, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at North Hardin Health and Rehab. in Radcliff. She was a native of Hardin County, a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher and a 75 year member of Howevalley United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Goodman, her parents, John R. and Betty Ann Peters Elliott; a son, Gary Goodman; two brothers, John Elliott and Clarence Elliott and five sisters, Rean Hatfield, Ruby Bryant, Lois Duvall, Lita Ligman and Ressie Whalen. She is survived by one son, Melvin H. (Imogene) Goodman of Radcliff. The funeral for Mrs. Goodman is Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Rose Marie Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Howevalley cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and continues after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ernest Albert Lyons
Ernest A. Lyons, 69 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Baltimore, MD. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years and was the Owner of an auto body business, a dump truck business and was the manager of Home Park. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth. He is survived by two sons, Michael (Marie) Lyons of Elizabethtown and David (Lynn) Lyons of Rancho Bernardo, CA; one daughter, Linda Vincent of Hughton, CA; his girlfriend, Shirley "Sam" Burris of Elizabethtown; one brother, Alvin Lyons of CO; two sisters, Joyce Cox of MA and Betty Lyons of TX and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 11 to 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
