Lura Orene Tucker
Lura Orene Tucker, 97, of Elizabethtown, died Monday August 8, 2011, at North Hardin Health and Rehab. She was a native of Taylor County, a member of First Christian Church, and retired from GTE as a Telephone Operator after over 20 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Gorwin Tucker; her parents, Charles and Nellie Durham Russell; a step-mother, Elizabeth Durham; and one sister, Delia Horn. She is survived by her daughter, Pat (Cliff) Bowen of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Kim (Willie) Wood and Greg (Susan) Bowen both of Elizabethown; four great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Jason, Todd and Jessica; and five great great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lilian, Gavin, Lucas, and Gage. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Kiger officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Leonard Ray Potter
Leonard Ray Potter, 64, of Radcliff, died Friday, August 12, 2011 at his residence. The Hardin County native was a U.S. Navy veteran and work at Ft. Knox civil service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Granville and Frances Durham Potter and a stepson, Jason Emrick. He is survived by his wife Barbara Stillwell Potter, three step sons, Matthew Emrick and Trey Fights both of ELizabethtown and Chris Fights of Louisville, one sister, Linda (Steve) Bailey of Elizabethtown, a step granddaughter, Nadia Emrick of Ft. Wayne, IN, a niece, Rhonda (Steve) Lubbe of VA, a nephew, Brian (Julie) Bailey of Minnesota and several great nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Sunday at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens with Rebecca and Jeremy Graham officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Rose Theresa Cox
Rose Theresa Cox, 83 of Elizabethtown, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. A longtime member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, Mrs. Cox served in many roles, including the choir and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the Hardin Memorial Auxiliary, having volunteered there for ten years. Mrs. Cox is survived by her beloved family: her husband of 63 years, William L. Cox of Elizabethtown; three children, Ralph Cox and his wife Patty of Lexington, Gary Cox and his wife Candace of Las Vegas, Nevada and JoAnne Cox of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Christopher Cox and his wife Leiann of Frisco, TX, Brandon Strassell of Elizabethtown and Connor and Emily Cox of Las Vegas and two great grandchildren, Makayla and Caden Cox of Frisco, TX. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Langley officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Severns Valley Building Fund or the Humane Society of America.
Carmal Castle
Carmal Castle, 85, formerly of Lowmansville, KY, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at North Hardin Rehabilitation Center in Radcliff, KY. He was a WWII and Vietnam War Army veteran and worked as a security guard for the state of Kentucky. Carmal, son of the late Herbert and Virgie Grim Castle, was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Alice Eskew Castle, two brothers; James and Herbert, Jr.; and by one sister; Herma Lee Pack. Carmal is survived by two daughters, Glenda Brangers of Elizabethtown, Pat Gillette and husband Eric of Warner-Robins, GA and one son Joe Castle and wife Nancy of Paintsville, one sister, Mary Ruth Tackett of Paintsville, six grandchildren, Chris Brangers, Tracy Gibson, Brian Young, Casey Castle, Carrie Lafferty and Catherine Castle, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements will be made by Wilson's Funeral Home in Louisa, KY with burial at Golden Oaks cemetery in Ashland KY. What a great man he was! Local arrangements by Brown Funeral Home.
Carole A. Houlihan
Carole A. Houlihan, 72, of Elizabethtown, KY, died Friday August 5, 2011, at her residence. She was a daughter of Frank and Eunice Wiest both deceased, beloved wife of Edward, mother of Edward F., James P., Thomas M. and Teresa (Scott) Rossmann, grandmother of James A. Houlihan, Brianna, Janelle, Noah, Caitlyn, and Shanna Rossmann. Sister of Frank West (deceased), Joan Alton Blumer (deceased), and Shirley Larson. Aunt of many nieces and nephews living and deceased. 16 July 1960 at St. Leo's Church of Chicago, resided in St. Christina's parish 10 years, Transfiguration, Wauconda, IL 19 years and 19 years at St. James, Elizabethtown, KY. Retired in October 1992 after 20 plus years certified nurse's aid. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial will follow at St. James cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and contiune Monday after 9 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. Sunday.
Wesley Morris Milby
Wesley Morris Milby, 80 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehab. He was a native of Green County, served in the Marines during the Korean war and was a member of the American Legion Post #113. He was a retired Mechanical Engineer. He is survived by two children, Mark (Dorinda) Milby and Karen (Glenn) Whitlow all of Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be Thursday at 12 noon at the Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edward Warren
Marvin Edward Warren, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday April 26, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. A native of Green County, he served in the Army in World War II and was later a Health Inspector for Kentucky and Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Stella Thompson Warren, his wife Clara Mae Warren, his sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Albert Tennison. He is survived by his niece Kay (Tristan) Ashby, a great nephew John Ashby all of Louisville, and a great niece Jamie (Robert) Tinsley and a great-great niece Trista Tinsley all of Shepherdsville. The Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Darland officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rudolph Self
Rudolph Self, 93 of Eastview, died Friday, November 18, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Henry County, a member of Summit United Methodist Church and the Stephensburg Masonic Lodge #212 F and AM. He retired from Tarc in 1980 after 35 years of employment. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Richardson Self; his parents, William and Emma Horton Self and two brothers, Marvin Self and Robert Self. He is survived by his special caregivers, Marquetta and Mike Lively of Glendale; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Lively of Elizabethtown and Geneva "Jake" Richardson of Owensboro; two nieces, Martha Ann Wood of Albany, GA and Sue Romero of Albuquerque, NM and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Summit United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Sexton, Rev. Rose Marie Jones and Rev. Bill Rounsaville officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home. Ryan E. Weekes
Ryan E. Weekes, 87 of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, November 19, 2011 in Odessa, FL. He was a native of Georgetown, DE and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1455 and the American Legion Post #113 in Elizabethtown. Member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a WWII Army-Air Force Veteran, a Retired CMSGT, USAF, with 24 years of service to his country and retired from Coca Cola after 20 years of employment. He was a member of the American Red Cross and he volunteered with the Habitat for Humanity in Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by his parents, George B. and Sarah Pride Weekes and a brother, Jim Weekes. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Olive Ann Connelly Weekes; three sons, Ryan Stephen (Joy) Weekes of Elizabethtown, Peter Joseph (Linda) Weekes of Odessa, FL and Robert Thomas (Julie) Weekes of Paducah; two daughters, Nancy Ann (Dee) Van Valkenburg of Lutz, FL and Janice Elizabeth (Larry) Roland of Westerville, OH; one brother, George (Kay) Weekes of Panama City Beach, FL; one sister, Josephine Weekes of Panama City Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Leslie (Crystal) Van Valkenburg, Allen Van Valkenburg, Heather (Kevin) Gibson, Erika (Ryan) Reed, Stephanie (David) Shumate, Matthew (Amy) Weekes, Jordan Weekes and Catherine Weekes and five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Thomas, Alex Thomas, Nate Shumate, Olivia Weekes and Marley Gibson.
