Mildred Hazel Rice
Mildred Hazel Rice, 95, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Woodland Terrace Health Care Facility. She was a native of Jefferson County and had worked at K-Mart. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Joseph Callahan. Her parents, Jim and Bessie Edwards; and one brother Garrnett Edwards. She is survived by two sons Donald Joseph Callahan of Elizabethtown and James Patrick Callahan of Miami, Florida. Cremation was chosen and there will be no services.

Rudolph Hall
Joseph Rudolph "Rudy" Hall, 90 died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. The Meade County native was a carpenter and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Margaret Hall, by a son, Michael Joseph Hall and by his parents, Christopher Columbus Hall and Mary Edith Hoffman Hall. He is survived by his wife, Cora Ellen McKinley-Hall, by one son, Don Hall, of Bullard, TX, by a brother, Tom Hall of Elizabethtown, by three sisters, Cordelia Rosendahl of Alturas, CA,Gertrude Mayhew of Vine Grove and Ann Decapua of Elizabethtown, 6 grandchildren, Duane Hall, Tim Hall, Sean Hall, Andrea Hall, Michael Hall and Jason Hall, five great grandchildren, three step sons, Michael J. McKinley of Louisville, Scott D. McKinley of Shepherdsville and Dr. Russell L. McKinley of Elizabethtown and two step daughters, Laura Holst of Nesconset, New York and Ellen Stufflebeam of Elizabethtown. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Chuck Walker and Rev. Stanley Osborne officiating. Burial will be in St. James cemetery Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and at Noon Monday at Brown Funeral Home. There will be a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Lelia H. Banks
Lelia H. Banks, 90 of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 14, 2011. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lelia was a dedicated civil service employee for more than 30 years. Her passions were her family, her church and her quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Banks; her parents, Crate and Nell Holbrook; a sister, Joye Saylor Charping and a brother, John Masten Holbrook. She is survived by her children, Janie Bennett of Elizabethtown, Jim (Theresa) Banks of Hodgenville; seven grandchildren, Diana (Jarrod) Shadowen, Becky (Jason) Murdock, Brandon Banks, Wes Stroud, Katie Bennett, Patrick Banks and Tori Banks and three great grandchildren, Wilson and Sully Shadowen and Pixie Murdock. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church in Whitesburg, KY with Bro. Johnnie Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Banks Family cemetery. Local visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Visitation will continue after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church in Whitesburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus of Central Kentucky.
Warren Townsend
Warren Townsend, 78, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at North Hardin Health and Rehab Center. The Hardin County native was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church He was a front end mechanic at WIlson Olds-Cadillac for 46 years. His outstanding reputation as "the best front end mechanic in the business" reached from coast to coast. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Grace Puckett Townsend and a brother, Stanley Townsend. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Corley Townsend and one daughter, Vickie Kay (DeWayne) Reed of Elizabethtown. The funeral will be on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Valley Creek cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Col. (Ret.) David Payton Meriwether
Col. (Ret) David Meriwether, 57, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. A native of Florida, David began active duty 11 May 1975 in the United States Army upon graduation from Stetson University, Deland, FL. One of his first duty stations was Ft. Knox, KY. David completed his Masters degree in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University. His career in the Army involved many assignments in various positions within Military Intelligence. Col. Meriwether attended the Naval Command and Staff College in Newport, Rhode Island in 1988. Following graduation, he once again was assigned to Ft. Knox as Intelligence Officer for the 194th Armored Brigade. He subsequently was assigned to the Army Acquisition Corps where he served as Project Manager and ultimately Program Manager for development of various Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Systems. His work on these systems primarily was while on duty at Vint Hill Farms Station, VA, National Security Agency, Ft. Meade and R&D; Center, Comm. & Electronic Command, Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey. Col. Meriwether retired from the Army 31 December 2001. He remained in Elizabethtown working as a Concept/Doctrine Writer at Ft. Knox until June, 2008, when he retired from civil service. David was a Kentucky Colonel. Col. Meriwether was passionate about being a soldier in the U.S. Army. He loved his country, and he loved his family. He will be greatly missed by those whom he loved. Col. Meriwether was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mrs. Lela Walker and his father-in-law, John D. Brady. He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Brady of Austin, MN; his children, John (Danielle) Meriwether and Jamie (Todd) Rice both of Louisville, KY, Spc Ryan (Shana) Meriwether of Ft. Benning, GA and Kristin Meriwether of Elizabethtown; grandson, Dillan Meriwether of Ft. Benning, GA; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meriwether of Black Mountain, NC; brother, Mark (Beth) Meriwether of Asheville, NC; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian E. Brady of Austin, MN; his brothers-in-law, Col. Ret. Steve (Ann) Brady of Yorktown, VA, Bill (Teri) Brady of Creighton, NE and Dr. Ross (Colleen Brady) Seimers of Minneapolis, MN and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews whom were all dear to him. A graveside service will be Monday at 12:00 noon at Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central with Lt. Col. Boulwarer officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.until 11:30 a.m. on Monday at Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to Project LEARN, 225 College Street, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
Charles Edward Ferguson
Charles Edward Ferguson, 54 of Elizabethtown, died at his home. He was a native of Elizabethtown and worked in construction. He was preceded in death by his father and step mother, Edward and Gladys Ferguson. He is survived by his daughter, Kasey (George) Bradley of Elizabethtown; his mother and step father, Betty and William Whitfill of Big Clifty; two brothers, Roger (Patty) Ferguson of Elizabethtown and Les Ferguson of Glendale; two sisters, Cheryl (Steve) Lucas of Irvington and Barbara (Jodie) Thompson of Big Clifty; a step brother, Chuck (Lisa) Wedington of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Isaiah, Olivia and Sophia Bradley and his extended family, Shannon and Terry Caster and their children, Nicole and Nathan of Portland, OR. A Memorial Service will be private.
Verna Rose Jackson
Verna Rose Jackson, 77, of Elizabethtown, KY, died Wednesday August 17, 2011 at Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, AL. She was born in 1933 in Flaherty, KY. She spent most of her life living in Elizabethtown with her husband Tex. They had a lovely life together spending time at the local airport with their friends and also spending time on the lake. Recently Verna lived her last six years of her life in Birmingham, AL which is close to her oldest son, Jim and his, wife Kathy. Verna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived a wonderful Christian life and was always there to support others, especially her family. Verna is beginning the most incredible wonder that she has ever experienced and a lovely reunion with her maker with tons of love and happiness and no more pain from the years of rheumatoid arthritis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Rose Hobbs and her husband, Tex. She is survived by her three sons, Jim (Kathy) Jackson, Don (Jerre) Jackson and Alan (Joan) Jackson. She was a happy grandmother and great grandmother to Brad, Brian, Maria, Melissa, Kyle, Kate, Rex and Adelynn. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Hardesty. The visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home. Any donations may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280 Washington D. She will miss all of her close friends there but will reunite with them in Heaven.

Robert John Kretz, 55, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday September 21, 2011, at his residence. He is survived by his wife Rachel Kretz. Brown Funeral Home is incharge of local arrangements. Visitation and Funeral will be in Toledo, OH.
Thena "Jewell" Wilson
Thena "Jewell" Wilson, 87, of Glendale, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at the home of her daughter. She was a native of Glendale, retired as a shipping clerk for Civil Service at Ft. Ord, CA, a proud member of Dixie Homemakers, loved gardening, the outdoors and her many pets; but she loved her grandchildren more than anything. She was also a member of Sonora Methodist Church. She was preceded by her husband, Leslie Edward Wilson; her parents, David Sibley and Linda Crabtree Norris, a grandson, Michael Shane Denton; six brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Haugen of Van Meter, IA, and Betty (Elijah) Denton of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Christine Miller of Sonora, and Vera Clifford of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, Kimberly Rigot, Kelli Minard, Kara Baird, Jennifer Naylor, Matthew Dean Denton, and Rachel Saenz; and eleven great-grandchildren, Brandon Burbank, Tyler Baird, Lauren and Matthew Cole Denton, Levi Rigot, Olivia, Gabriel, and Evangeline Naylor, and Isaias, Natalie and Dora Saenz. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Lida Bain officiating. Burial will follow at Sonora cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and continue after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Melvin W. Naylor
Melvin W. Naylor, 93 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at North Hardin Health and Rehab. in Radcliff. He was a native of Davenport, Iowa, served in the Army during WWII; he received the Bronze Star. He was an Aerospace Quality Control Engineer for D.O.D. who contracted with N.A.S.A. in Washington, DC. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal workers. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Naylor; his parents, Raymond Lester and Nettie Marie House Naylor and a brother, Myrel Naylor. He is survived by his wife, Mary Stutzman Naylor; four sons, Jerard Naylor of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Christopher (Nancy) Naylor of Augusta, GA, Rev. David Naylor of Louisville and Donald Naylor of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Todd (Christy) Naylor, Fredrik Austin Naylor, Jason Douglas Naylor, Krystal Leigh Naylor, Matthew David Naylor, Jacob Johan Naylor, Joshua Keith Naylor; and four great-grandchildren, Zoe Naylor, Lily Naylor, Peyton Naylor and Gabe Naylor, a niece Kristin Bacher and a nephew Bruce Naylor.
