Andre Henri Beaugrand
Andre Beaugrand, 92, of Elizabethtown died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at his residence. He was a native of Voinsles, France; a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Lion's Club and was a Kentucky Colonel. He volunteered at Central Hardin High School and Elizabethtown High School with the French language program. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierre and Germaine Dupre Beaugrand. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Colette Beaugrand; a son, Michael (Carolyn) Beaugrand of Cincinnati, OH; a daughter, Helena Beaugrand Willis of Cranston, RI; two brothers, Paul and Henri Beaugrand; and a sister, Therese Roman all of France; and five grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole, Samantha, Andrew and Patrick. A memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Bill Fichteman officiating. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Michael J. Scott Allan Swansegar/Fluffy Swan
Scott Allan Swansegar, known as Fluffy Swan, 45, of Elizabethtown died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Scottsburg, IN and lived most of his life in Louisville. He served as a legal clerk in the National Guard and was a Union Rep for the Census Bureau. He helped soldiers write their wills before they deployed to Desert Storm. He enjoyed singing, his kids and grandkids more than anything. He is survived by his son, Tim Swansegar of Elizabethtown; daughter, Elizabeth Swansegar of Bardstown; parents, Roy and Beverly Swansegar of Elizabethtown; brother, Ted Swansengar of Midway; grandchildren, Andrew and Natalie; grandparents, Grace and Gilbert Tharp of Elizabethtown; and several cousins and nephews. A graveside service with Military Honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Kentucky Veterans cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
Lois Dean Routt Holman
Lois Dean Routt Holman, 73, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday May 14, 2014 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. Lois was born on November 23, 1940 in Barren Run, KY. She grew up on a dairy farm where she learned a strong work ethic and cultivated her life-long love of cooking. Known as "Lois Dean" to her school friends, she was a 1958 graduate and cheerleader for Hodgenville High School. She met her lifelong love, Jerry Holman, on a blind date. They were married
in 1959. Lois helped Jerry with bookkeeping in his welding business. She was able to live her dream of being a mother and homemaker for her husband and three children. Lois was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. Pleasure for Lois was found in the simple things of life. She could often be found watching her birds and especially hummingbirds, gardening, taking care of her flowers, cheering on her favorite football player, Peyton Manning, and watching sports. Lois had a deep love for the sport of football and was known as an avid supporter of UL athletics. Lois was well-known for her great cooking. In her kitchen and in her home, laughter and love were the specialties of the Holman household and Lois was known for her sense of humor. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Hazle Routt and Jerry Holman, her husband of 54 years. She is survived by her sister, Oneida (Luther) Cochran of Hodgenville; two sons, Mike (Donna) Holman of Fishers, IN; Jim (Laura) Holman of Elizabethtown, KY; a daughter, Carol (Richard) Butler of Irvington, KY); one grandson, Michael James Robert Holman; and three granddaughters, Hannah Holman, Hallie Holman and Ginny Dean Butler. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Frank McCallum officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cardiac Rehab at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
Ernest Dean Harned
Ernest Dean Harned, 73 of Dog Creek at Nolin Lake and formally of Upton, died peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2014. After 30 years of hauling bread (Rainbo), he spent the next 20 years fishing instead. He was a member of Teamsters Local 89 and an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.E. and Rosie Harned. He was survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice Johnson Harned and four daughters, Deana Sue Harned Snowden (Scott) of Louisville, Beth Harned McNulty (Tom) of New Albany, IN, Krista Faye Harned Hodgkins (Jason) of Shepherdsville, and Lisa Dyan Harned Huff (Terry) of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren, Thomas (Megan), Geoffrey (Sarah) and Rachel McNulty, Perry, Grant and Claiborne Snowden, Seaera Minyard, Alexis Hodgkins and Chase Huff and two great grandchildren Gavin McNulty and Caleb McNulty. He was also survived two brothers, Richard (Patricia) and Walter Lee Harned all of Louisville. The family will be receiving family and friends for a visitation at Brown Funeral Home, 306 College Street in Elizabethtown on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2 to 6 p.m.. He donated his body to University of Louisville School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers the family request donation to WHAS Crusade for Children or Hosparus of Central Kentucky.
Antonio "Tony" Espejo
Antonio "Tony" Espejo, 84, of Elizabethtown passed away Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated to the U. S. in 1943, settling in Miami, FL. He served as a Gunnery SGT in the Army with the 213th FABN. He then joined the Marine Corps and continued to serve his country with pride until 1968. During his service, Tony received the Korean Service Medal with three major battle stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, U. S. National Defense Ribbon, ROK Korean War Service Medal and the USMC Good Conduct Medal. Tony retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 34 years. He owned and operated the Old Vault Deli in downtown Elizabethtown from 1997-2011 and was an active member of Saint Timothy's Anglican Church. Tony was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 113, the Marine Corps League, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans, Semper Fi. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Espejo; son, Tony Espejo; daughter, Lillian Conklin; two sisters, Eddi Lopez and Hilda Gimbel; six grandchildren, Antonio Espejo II, Lucas Espejo, Joanna Conklin, Ken Conklin, Kimberly Conklin and Kelly Renee Conklin; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley Espejo, Brooklyn Espejo, Meredith Conklin, Logan Conklin, and Tyler Cyrus. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with Fr. Chris Larimer officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A reception will follow the burial at St. Timothy's Anglican Church.
Eric A. Thompson
Eric A. Thompson, 53, of Elizabethtown departed this life Tuesday, March 4, 2014. He is survived by his Dad and Mom, Dick and Jane Thompson; two aunts, Louise Maupin of Elizabethtown and Candy Pattison of Olympia, WA; and several cousins. There will be a graveside service 2 p.m. Friday at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens with Rev. Leon Chambers officiating. Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to Mt. Addie Maurice Churchman
Addie Maurice Churchman, 86, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Hardin County, who retired after 37 years with Bussman. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Union Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Collie Earl and Lizzie Carter Kennedy; a sister, Louise Essex; and two brothers, B. W. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Churchman; sister, Alma Jean Brown of Louisville; two brothers, Ardis O. Kennedy of Elizabethtown, and J. D. Kennedy of Louisville. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Campbell and Tim Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Union Christian Church. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday and continue 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Union Christian Church.
Edith Ruth Gaddie
Edith Ruth Gaddie, 83 of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Kindred Nursing and Rehab. at Woodland. She was a native of Jefferson County and a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Gates Rubber Company after 27 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward G. and Bettie Jane Harned Gaddie. She is survived by a brother, William Barney Gaddie of Buffalo; her niece and caregiver, Sue Parrett of Elizabethtown and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Valley Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Valley Creek cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 9 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home. Nathan James McCurry
On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, Nathan James McCurry husband, father, son, and brother passed away suddenly at the age of 36 years at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Nathan's love will always be in the heart of his wife and best friend Eliza-Jane Cruse McCurry whom he married
December 30, 2006 and their precious daughter Ada Scout Bratcher McCurry, his parents Roger and Dona McCurry, his brother Jared and his wife Dana, his sister Leslie McCurry, and his maternal grandmother Jodie Bratcher. Nathan will forever be remembered by his nieces and nephews Caroline and Charlotte McCurry, Darien Huff, Andrew Reed, Courtney and Bryanna Keith and Jayden, Zachary and Zoey Cruse, his extended family and dear friends. Nathan was born December 4, 1976 in Springfield, Missouri, but grew up in Elizabethtown. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1995, completed his Bachelor's of Business and a Master of Arts in Special Education from Campbellsville University, and his Rank 1 at the University of the Cumberlands. Nathan taught in the Elizabethtown Independent Schools and Hardin County Schools before calling LaRue County Schools his home district where he taught special education, was an assistant football coach and a middle school athletic director. Nathan played center on the 1997 Campbellsville University NAIA Championship football team. Most recently, he coached his daughter's Upward soccer team the Comets. Nathan was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. He demonstrated his Christian faith through loving others unconditionally. Nathan participated in summer mission trips to inner city area where he shared his faith through Bible study, athletic activities, and his skills of juggling and making balloon animals. Visitation will be Friday, May 24 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, May 25 from 9:00am to 11:00 am in the sanctuary of the former Severns Valley Baptist Church on Poplar Street. A Celebration of Life in memory of Nathan will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00am at the sanctuary of the former Severns Valley Baptist Church on Poplar Street. Interment will follow at Hardin Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Nathan McCurry Memorial Fund for Scout McCurry at Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.
