Elizabeth Cummins

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Elizabeth Virginia Cummins, 72, formerly of Burgin, will be 2 p.m. today at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home by David Collier. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

She died Friday in Florida.

Born Sept. 8, 1928, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Bethel Pench Sallee. She was a member of the Baptist church and a former employee of Mercer Dress Co.

Survivors include her husband, John Cummins of Wildwood, Fla.; and two sons, John V. Cummins and Jerry L. Cummins, both of Wildwood.

Pallbearers will be Ray Caldwell, Fred Beecher, Tim Glasscock, Tommy Sallee and Don Satterly.

Melvin D. Gibson

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Melvin Dillard Gibson, 78, of Fairview Court were Monday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial with military rites was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

He died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Pallbearers were Steven Reed, Lonnie Campbell, Terry Young, Buddy Logue, Burford Noel and Bobby Trisler. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Robertson, Skeeter Reed, Billy Gilvin, James Holiday, Curtis Currens, Roy Camic, Vernice Long and Leslie Rue.

Sue Katherine Harper

SCIENCE HILL -- Sue Katherine Godby Compton Harper, 71, of Somerset died Wednesday at her home.

Born Aug. 27, 1931, in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Katie Boone Godby and the step-daughter of Ruby Godby of Highland Heights.

She was a factory worker at Tecumseh Products in Somerset and a member of First Christian Church in Somerset.

Survivors include her husband, James O. Harper; a son, Gary Compton of Somerset; a step-son, James D. Harper of Eubank; a step-daughter, Diane Harper Crabtree of Monticello; a brother, Carl Godby of Somerset; a half brother, John Godby of Cincinnati; a sister, Charlotte Cox of Somerset; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home by the Rev. Joseph K. Altman. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today.

Charles P. Henderson

Charles Peyton Henderson, 37, of Traverse City, Mich., died Nov. 2 at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1964 in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the son of Alice Fitzgerald of Lancaster and the late Volley Henderson Sr. He was a saxophone soloist with various bands in Michigan and a member of First Baptist in Danville.

Survivors include a daughter, Kionna Henderson of Detroit; a son, Chrisante Henderson of Detroit; a brother, Volley Henderson of Lancaster; and three sisters, Deloris Spicer and Frances Henderson, both of Lancaster, and Natalie Oliver of Danville; his ex-wife, Kimberly Johnson of Detroit; and companion, Dana Kelley.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut streets, by the Rev. Richard Hill. Burial will be at Duncantown Cemetery in Lancaster.

Pallbearers will be Steven Singleton, Chris Turner, Jeff Hester, Bruce Warren, David Goldie, Malone Anderson and Rusty Clark.

Honorary pallbearers are Sam Burke, Wilbur Dunn, Simon Norris and James Lyon.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy C. Johnson

MORELAND -- Dorothy Mae Coontz Johnson, 68, of Danville died Wednesday at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Aug. 8, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Ola Bell Anderson Coontz. She was retired from GENESCO and provided child care for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Danville Church of God.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Lanham of Nicholasville and Carol Ann Johnson of Danville; a son, James "Jimmy" Johnson Jr. of Los Angeles; a brother, Bobby Coontz of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Glenda Withrow of Salinas, Calif., and Mary Ann Wray of Stanford; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Danville Church of God by Chaplain Gary Story the Rev. Lonnie Rusty Townsend. Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Johnson, Rick Lawson, Caleb Wray, Lawrence Wray Jr., Paul Bodner and Ed Music.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Coontz, Chris Cook, Gary Lanham Sr., Mark Coontz, Billy Johnson and Tommy Roy.

Visitation is 5:30-9 p.m. today at the Danville Church of God.

Arrangements are by W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home.

Wilda M. Tucker

SCIENCE HILL -- Wilda Jean Mayfield Tucker, 65, of Old Waynesburg Road, Eubank, died Wednesday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born April 28, 1937, in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Shelby and Bertha Ellen Daulton Mayfield. She was a housekeeper and a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Eubank.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny W. Tucker; a son, Johnny Mark Tucker of Eubank; two daughters, Kimberly Floyd and Kathy McDonald, both of Eubank; a brother, Denver "Jock" Mayfield of Somerset; four sisters, Mildred Tucker of Cincinnati and Jewell Gossett, Ruth Thompson and Rhodie Girdler, all of Somerset; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wendell Eugene Tucker.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Hope Baptist Church in Eubank. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home.

John Baldwin

CRAB ORCHARD -- Services for John Baldwin, 69, of Brodhead Road were scheduled at 2 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home by Vernon Doan and Ira Miller. Burial will be in Freedom Church Cemetery, Mount Vernon.

He died Wednesday at Rockcastle County Hospital.

Honorary pallbearers were John Haarman and Ira "Speedy" Miller.

Clarence Johnson

Services for Clarence Johnson, 88, of Alum Springs Road, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home by Rev. Ernest Fields Jr. and David Keith Johnson. Burial will be at Parksville Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at Hospice of Louisville, Audobon Hospital in Louisville.

Born June 7, 1914, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Jim Matt and Anna Bell Ferrell Johnson. He was retired from the Boyle County Road Department, where he worked for 40 years, and Farmer's Tobacco Warehouse, where he worked for 79 years. He was also a farmer, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former deacon at Pleasant Run Baptist Church.

Surivvors include his wife, Louise Gordon Johnson; three sons, J. C. Johnson of Louisville, Marvin Leonard Johnson of Columbia, Tenn. and William Arnold Johnson of Danville; one sister, Carrie Mae Burger of Danville; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons A.J. Johnson, David Keith Johnson, Joshua Clarence Johnson, Joseph Glenn Nutgrass, Johnathan Dwayne Ford, James Michael Johnson, Ricky Eugene Ford and Jeremy Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are great-grandons Ben Johnson, Corey Lee Johnson, Milburn Edwards, Marty Russell, Christopher Barrett, Adam Ford, Noah Ford, Cody Michael Ford.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Matilda L. Parson

LANCASTER -- Services for Matilda Logan Parson, 94, of Danville Street will be 10 .m. Saturday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Bryce McCulley and Val McCord. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery.

She died Thursday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital's Home for Senior Citizens.

Born Oct. 8, 1908, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Rice and Elizabeth Adkison Logan. She was retired co-manager of Parson's Grocery and a member of New Antioch Christian Church. She was the widow of Gilbert Parson.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Ada Parson of Lancaster; one daughter, Rosalee Parson of Lancaster; four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Parson, and a son, Lamorris Parson.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Sebastian, Bobby East, Gordon Curtis, Rick Gastineau, George Preston and Harry Preston.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to Garrard County Memorial Hospital's Home for Senior Citizens.

Deborah Whitmer

LEXINGTON -- The Rev. Deborah Whitmer, 53, of Lexington died Wednesday at Samaritan Medical Center.

She served as former pastor at Junction City United Methodist Church from 1989 to 1993 and had been director and pastor of Lexington's Nathaniel United Methodist Mission since 1994. She had served the United Methodist Church on various levels and also had worked for state government.

She is survived by her parents, Robert J. Whitmer and Lorene Taylor Whitmer, both of Philpot; and two sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Lexington by the Revs. Thomas W. Eblen and Al Gwinn. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is after noon Friday at the church.

W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway is charge of arrangements.

Memorials may go to Nathaniel United Methodist Mission, P.O. Box 31, Lexington 40588.
