Adam M. Pence Jr.
STANFORD -- Adam M. Pence Jr., 81, of Stanford, former Stanford mayor, business owner and community leader, died Friday at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington.
"He was certainly an outstanding individual and citizen of our community," said current Mayor Rodman Bradshaw.
Pence was Bradshaw's scoutmaster. "When a someone devotes his life to the youth of the community that is outstanding," Bradshaw said.
Pence served as scoutmaster for 18 years of Troop 148, sponsored by the Stanford Rotary Club and served as an official timekeeper for Stanford High School football for 12 years. He was an honorary member of the FFAs at Stanford and Memorial high schools. He received the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1981 from the Stanford Chamber of Commerce, the first time the award was given.
Later Bradshaw's path crossed with Pence's again. "I bought my wife's engagement ring at The Time Shop," Bradshaw said.
Pence and his wife, Eunice, were co-owners of the store.
"He was always a good friend. He was happy and let kids hang out in his store," Bradshaw said. He had a humor about him that was just special."
Born Jan. 25, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was a son of Adam M. and Peachie Baughman Pence. He was a retired watchmaker and jeweler and was a graduate of the American School of Watchmaking in Glendale, Calif.
He served as mayor from 1974 to 1980. He was a member of Stanford United Methodist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a member of the Stanford Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Mason and active in Lincoln Masonic Lodge 60, F&AM; Oleika Temple and the Wilderness Shrine Club.
He served on the Bluegrass Council of Boy Scouts of America and received the Merit of Honor Distinguished award from the council. He was past president of the Stanford Rotary Club and Optimist Club, served as a director of the chamber and had been on the board of the Stanford-Lincoln County Industrial Board.
Pence was predeceased by a son, M. Lee Pence.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Ashley Pence; a son, Tim Pence of New Albany, Ind.; a daughter, Sandy P. Lucas of Stanford; a granddaughter; a brother, Morgan Pence Sr. of Stanford; four sisters, Nancy P. Connin of Riverton, Wyo., Sarah P. Moore of Hemet, Calif., Josephine P. Salter of Baton Rouge, La., and Minevera P. Abbott of Hamilton, Ohio.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Buffalo Springs Cemetery by the Revs. Jerry Beck and John Chowning.
There is no visitation.
There will be Masonic rites, as well as military rites by Caswell-Saufley Post 18, American Legion, at graveside.
Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln County Education Fund, P.O. Box 423, Stanford, 40484.

Floyd Lister
Floyd Lister, 80, of Yates Road, Alum Springs, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1922, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Bill and Girtha Plummer Lister. He was a farm laborer and attended First Church of God, Alum Springs. He had attended Parks-ville School.
Survivors include two brothers, Melvin Lister of Alum Springs and William Lister of Junction City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Keith Willoughby. Burial will be in Junction City Cemetery.

Jackie D. Pendergraph
LOUISVILLE -- Jackie Davis Pendergraph, 96, of Nashville, Ga., formerly of Perryville, died Friday at South Georgia Medical Center.
Born June 25, 1906, in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of the late E.L. and Ida Burchett Davis and the widow of the Rev. G.R. Pendergraph, former pastor of Perryville Baptist Church.
She was a retired school teacher of 38 years, a member and past president of the Baptist Board Wives of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and Women's Missionary Union at Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville. She was a member of the national and local Retired Teachers Association, Women's Committee of Southern Seminary, Louisville Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, Crescent Hill Woman's Club and Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Garland Edward Pendergraph of Nashville, Ga., Jack Truett Pendergraph of Dallas, Texas, and Newton Boone Pendergraph of Arlington, Va; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. today at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home in Louisville.
Memorials may go to Alpha Council of the Boy Scouts of America for the building of the Quasi Hut in Valdosta, Ga.

HARRODSBURG -- Hallie Mae Jones Burrus, 102, of Harrodsburg Health Care Center, formerly of North Greenville Street, died Friday at the health care center.
Born Nov. 25, 1899, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lant Jones and Emmy VanDyke Jones. She was the widow of Raymond Mark Burrus. She was a homemaker, an active member of the Senior Citizens, and a member of Dividing Ridge Baptist Church in Mayo.
Survivors include two sons, Davis Burrus of Mayo and Jimmie Burrus of Jessamine County; three daughters, Opal Sigar, Elizabeth Burrus and Alma Meaux, all of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dividing Ridge Baptist Church by the Rev. Boris Carter. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at Parks Funeral Home and after noon Tuesday at the church.

LIBERTY -- Matra Lois Buck, 83, of Hustonville Street died Friday at Russell County Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1918, in Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Addie Pelly Cundiff. She was a homemaker and the widow of Wilburn Cochran.
Survivors include four daughters, Norma Wheat of Anderson, Ind., Dean Smothers of Bradsfordsville, Joyce Wethington of Liberty and Linda Evans of Anderson; three sons, Edward Cochran and Gary Cochran, both of Liberty, and Ron Cochran of Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence and John Ed Cundiff, both of Dunnville; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Cochran.

MIDDLEBURG -- Annie Monday Brown, 89, of Patsy Riffe Ridge died Friday at Taylor Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 13, 1913, in Humble, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary Katherine Rexroat Monday. She was a homemaker and the widow of Frank Coffman, William Pete Hill and John Henry Asbury.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Eugene Monday of Tennessee and James Robert Monday of McKinney; five daughters, Ethel Mae Baker and Margie Marie Coffman, both of Harrodsburg, Marie Harrison of Burgin, Mary Ellen Benham of Springfield and Shirley Hill Coleman of Stanford; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard Camenisch
STANFORD -- Richard Camenisch, 94, of Redwood Drive died Friday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Nov. 15, 1907, in Turnersville, he was the son of the late Christian and Lena Seewer Camenisch. He was a retired farmer, past elder and deacon of Stanford Presbyterian Church and its oldest member, and a charter member of Lincoln County Farm Bureau. He was the widower of Frances Fields Camenisch.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Caudill of Stanford and Lucia Brown of Lexington; a brother, the Rev. Robert Camenisch of Stanford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Henry and James Christian Camenisch.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Stanford Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Erwin. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Stanford Presbyterian Church.

Born June 9, 1993, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter and stepdaughter of Christina Diane Minnick and William Jason Lee.
