Nobel C. Daugherty
Noble C. Daugherty, 90, former member of the Junction City Council, died Wednesday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
He was a member of the City Council for two terms, 1978-79 and 1982-83. During the 1990s, he had been recognized by the city for his efforts. He was presented a plaque during the mayoral term of Harold Leach and in 1996 was named grand marshal of the Railroad Days festival by the City Council.
"We did honor him as grand marshal for his outstanding contributions to citizens of Junction City throughout the years, " said Mayor Dale Walls.
In his later years, Daugherty started a project of collecting information about the history of Junction City, where he lived since 1929. One of his dreams was to have all the information he had collected located in one place in the city.
He was a former 4-H leader and a member of Farm Bureau.

Lonnie Long
MORELAND -- Services for Lawrence "Lonnie" Long, 56, of McKinney will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Green River Pentecostal Church by the Rev. Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center of natural causes.
Born Aug. 21, 1944, in Boyle County, he was a son of Ruth Estes Long of Stanford and the late Lawrence A. Long. He was an employee of Griffin's Concrete in McKinney and an Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Green River Pentecostal Church.
Other survivors include his wife, Vicky Long; a son, Lon Long of McKinney; a daughter, Christalynn Hubble of McKinney; a sister, Jo Bell Sallee of Athens, Ga.; and a grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Brown, Johnny Walls, Charles Young, Gary Young, Arkie Tillett and Tommy Tillett. Honorary pallbearers are Lon Long and Donnie Elliott.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at the church.
W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Oran Sims
WAYNESBURG -- Services for Oran Sims, 69, of Sims Ridge Road, Kings Mountain, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pond Baptist Church by Doug Saunders and David McFarland. Burial will be in Pond School Road Cemetery.
He died Thursday at his home.
Born June 1, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Boney and Lucy E. Stevens Sims. He was a self-employed construction contractor, a member of Pond Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Gourley Sims; two sons, Randall Sims of Kings Mountain and Linville Sims of Highland; two daughters, Theresa Falconbury of Eubank and Althea M. Farmer of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Thelmer, Arnold, Otis and Wallace Sims, all of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Ethelene Martin of Hustonville, Edith Caudill and Elsie Sims, both of Kings Mountain; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with military rites by Caswell-Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion.

Thomas L. Gilpin
LIBERTY -- Thomas L. Gilpin, 70, of Knifley died Tuesday at Metzmeier Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Gilpin, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Nancy Jane Roy Gilpin. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of Roley Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Wendell W. Gilpin of Stanford; a daughter, Tonda L. Dawson of Mount Orab, Ohio; two brothers, Chester B. Gilpin of Cambridge City, Ind., and Gerald P. Gilpin of Liberty; four sisters, Beryl Anderson of Winchester, Ohio, Iolla Atwood of Mount Orab, Iva R. Burton of Campbellsville and Mary F. Pendleton of Columbia; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Barry Kermeen. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

CLOVERPORT -- Eva M. Lester, 91, of Cloverport died Tuesday at Nortons Audubon Hospital in Louisville.
Born Nov. 9, 1908, in Harned, she was an Avon representative, a member of Cloverport Baptist Church and the widow of Thomas F. Lester.
Survivors include a brother, Joseph W. Mingus of Peoria, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wallace Funeral Home by the Rev. Dave Renfroe. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

William H. Curtsinger
MORELAND -- Services for William H. Curtsinger, 77, of Lucas Street, Junction City, were today at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Terry Holt. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
He died Wednesday at his home.
Born April 4, 1923, in Parksville, he was a son of the late Delbert and Myrtle Pendygraft Curtsinger. He was a retired employee of Kentucky State Hospital, and a World War II veteran having served in the 2759 Engineer Combat Battalion. He served in Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East and was the recipient of three Bronze Service Good Conduct Medals, a Victory Medal and a Meritorious Unit Award.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Herring Curtsinger; two sons, William L. Curtsinger of Nicholasville and John D. Curtsinger of Salvisa; a sister, Dorothy Caldwell of Parksville; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Wilson, June Christy, Buck Sears, Floyd Preston, Bobby Henson and Robert Taylor.

Elizabeth C. Scott
STANFORD -- Services for Elizabeth C. Scott, 82, of McCormick Church Road will be 11 a.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Revs. Don Burton and Jim Erwin. Burial will Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
She died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1917, in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Essie M. Davis Campbell. She was a retired teacher at Hustonville Elementary School and member of Hustonville Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie Scott; a daughter, Barbara Atwood of Stanford; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Stigall, Logan Spoonamore, Tom Davis, Jimmy Cooper, David Dickerson and John Toombs.

John H. James Jr.
PERRYVILLE -- Services for John H. James Jr., 77, of Runyon Road, Harrodsburg, a local businessman and former city commissioner, and will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilder Funeral Home by the Rev. David Hartman. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
James was a druggist and former owner of Wearen-James Drug Store in Harrodsburg and Pioneer One Hour Cleaners. He was a former Harrodsburg city police judge, city commissioner, chairman and member of the Harrodsburg Board of Education, and secretary and treasurer of the Mercer County Fair Board.
He also was a former member of Harrodsburg Jaycees, Salvisa Masonic Lodge and Oleika Shrine Temple. He was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and served in the Marines during World War II.
Born Feb. 17, 1923, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late John H. and Mattie Keightley James Sr.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Hungate James; two granddaughters, Caribeth Durham of Roanoke, Ala., and Jaymie Durham of Columbia, S.C. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cassandra "Cassie" James Durham.
Pallbearers will be Bronson Yeast, Joe Mike Wilder, Jack Leonard, Coy Cammack, Bill Teater and Rani Alyacoub.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at Wilder Funeral Home.

Foster Helm
Foster Helm, 83, of O'Hara Drive died Thursday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born Aug. 6, 1917, in Parksville, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Mary Moore Helm. He was a farmer and a member of Parksville Lions Club, Parksville Christian Church, Boyle County Board of Education and Federal Land Bank Board of Directors. He worked for 20 years as a tobacco weigher for the Burley Tobacco Warehouse and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Glasscock Helm; two sons, Kenneth D. Helm of Danville, Va., and Donald F. Helm of Fish Creek, Wisc.; a daughter, May Jo Helm of Danville; a brother, Stanley Helm of Danville; two sisters, Josephine Helm Cocanougher and Virginia Helm, both of Danville; for grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday.
