Charles A. Faulkner
Charles A. Faulkner, 79, of Shakertown Road died Friday at the Veterans Affairs Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Oct. 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Thomas and Cynthia Smith Faulkner. He was retired from the Army having served in World War II and the Korean War. He also was retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in San Francisco, Calif., and was a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Survivors include two brothers, Eugene Faulkner of Burgin and Sam Banks Sr. of Hot Springs, Ark.; and a sister, Bell Coward of Louisville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Smith-Jackson Funeral Home by the Rev. Clay Beasley. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County.
Pallbearers will be Guye Tarrance, Ronnie Fain and Roy Fain Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Logan, June Christy and James Singleton.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Flossie Hatchel
LEBANON -- Flossie Hatchel, 86, of Gravel Switch died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born June 4, 1914, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Tom Frank and Purdy Lynn Hafley. She was a homemaker and former member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church in Casey County.
She was the wife of Charlie Hatchel.
Survivors also include a daughter, Delores Clements of Campbellsville; one son, Lonnie Hatchel of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bosley Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Lanham. Burial will be in Elder Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hatchel, Timmy Hatchel, George Douglas, Randy Douglas, John D. Daugherty and Carroll Purdom.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 11 a.m. until funeral time Thursday.

Herma Hurley
LIBERTY -- Herma Hurley, 79, of Russell Springs died Tuesday at Russell County Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1921, in West Virginia, she a daughter of the late Jerry and Mary Meyers Dunn. She was the widow of Marvin Hurley. She was a retired telephone operator.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Hurley of Russell Springs and Rodney Hurley of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Bircher of Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, W.Va. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Paul Cantrell
Memorial services for Paul Cantrell of Danville, a retired Centre College professor who died June 7, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Cantrell; two sons, Clay Cantrell of Hendersonville, Tenn., and John Fred Cantrell of Winter Springs, Fla; and a daughter Jennifer Ray Cantrell of Indiana.

Graveside services for Dorothy Ballance Scott, 82, of Walnut Street will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Tommy Valentine.

Born April 19, 1918, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Jessie Ballance Scott. She was a dispatcher for Lawrenceburg Transfer Co., a member of and receptionist for the Danville-Boyle County Senior Citizens Center, a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and a graduate of Danville High School.
Survivors include a brother, Leslie Moore Scott of Moreland; and a niece, Barbara Atwood of Stanford.

SCIENCE HILL -- Paul M. Darnell, 72, of Somerset died Sunday at his home.
Born June 23, 1928, in Bedford, Ind., he was a son of the late William and Pearl Baugh Darnell. He was a retired dispatcher for Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a member of National Railway Historical Society and the widower of Frances Jewell Horton Darnell.
Survivors include a son, William Darnell of Cincinnati; four daughters, Linda Darnell of Somerset, Barbara Napier of Tiltonsville, Ohio, Ruth Darnell of Fredricksburg, Va., and Paula Embree of Louisville; four stepchildren; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Born April 6, 1921, in Garfield, N.J., he was a son of the late Henry and Genny Gouweloos Vanderteems. He was a retired painting contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Vanderteems; two sons, James Vanderteems of Boynton, Fla., and Edward Vanderteems of Danville; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

CYNTHIANA -- Doris Jean Hill Withers, 77, of Georgetown, formerly of Cynthiana, died Sunday at her home.
Born Jan 20, 1923, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Orie and Elizabeth Williams Hill. She was a retired teacher, a member of Cynthiana Presbyterian Church and Retired Teachers Association. She was the widow of Emery H. Withers Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda C. Simpson of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Sheats of Cynthiana; two stepsons, Jeffrey T. Withers of Danville and Emery Withers Jr. of Cynthiana; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Battle Grove Cemetery by the Revs. Patterson Clark and Lawrence Bowald.
