HARRODSBURG -- Services for Warren Bennett "Benny" Matherly, 48, of Elizabeth Court will be 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Don Chase. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He died Sunday.
Born Aug. 11, 1954, in Mercer County, he was the son of Berniese Sims Matherly of Harrodsburg and the late Warren Matherly. He was a construction worker and a member of Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Other survivors include his brother, Michael D. Matherly of Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers will be Zenah Teater, Eddie Combs, Chip Combs, Brent Combs, Doyle Darland, Lee Sanders and Donald Ray Matherly.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Friday.

Henry L. Guthrie
Henry Lee Guthrie Jr., 77, formerly of Danville and Harrodsburg, died Tuesday at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of the late Henry L. and Fannie Ellis Guthrie. He was owner of Guthrie Farm Service in Harrodsburg, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of The Presbyterian Church. He also was retired from Kentucky Department of Agriculture and was a calibrator of milk tanks.
He was a graduate of Danville High School and University of Kentucky.
Survivors include three sons, Tom Guthrie, Bradley S. Guthrie and Earl Scott Guthrie, all of Harrodsburg; a sister, Jean Guthrie Whanger of Danville; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may go to The Presbyterian Church.

George P. Merrick III
George Prentis Merrick III, 73, of Valley Brook Drive died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
Born Aug. 27, 1929, in Danville, he was the son of the late George P. and Sebbie Turner Merrick.
He was a retired assistant fire chief for Danville Fire Department for 20 years; a veteran of World War II and Korean War, and a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Boyle Post 46, Kentucky Corps Long Rifle Association and Governors Honor Guard. He also was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece Sims Merrick; two sons, George P. "Buddy" Merrick IV and Robert E. "Bobby" Merrick, both of Danville; a daughter, Linda Phillips of Danville; two sisters, Charlene Benge of Danville and Charlotte Pena of Lexington; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Merrick Sargent.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Helene Murphy
WAYNESBURG -- Services for Helene Mae Murphy, 82, of Kings Mountain will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Kings Mountain Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Scielly and Rolla Henderson. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery.
She died Monday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born April 12, 1921, in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Ora Mae Howard Sears. She was a clerk and assistant post mistress at Kings Mountain for 30 years and a member of Kings Mountain United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Mike C. Murphy.
Survivors include a son, Kerry Murphy of Kings Mountain; a sister, Christine Hendrickson of Sandusky, Ind.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David, Mark, Kenneth and Joe Berry, Erik King, Dennis Sims, Carl Gooch and David Gambrel. Pallbearers will be Revelle Singleton, Ralph Gooch, Raymond Stull, Don and Tyler King.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.

William L. Downey
William Lee Downey, 79, formerly of Danville and Hustonville, died June 23 in Richmond, Calif.
Born Dec. 27, 1923, in Hustonville, he was the son of the late William "W.H." and Alma Graham Downey. He was owner of A&E; Trucking Co. in Richmond, Calif., and served in the Army during World War II. In the 1940's, he worked for Wilder's Garage in Danville. He was a Baptist and a graduate of Hustonville High School.
Survivors include three daughters, Gail Phillipson and Elaine Downey, both of Lakewood, Colo., and Alma Gonzales of San Pablo, Calif.; a son, Ed Downey of Richmond, Calif.; a sister, Pat Downey Jones of Danville; and five grandchildren.
Services were held in Richmond, Calif.

STANFORD -- Services for Bobby Jay McKinney, 59, of Somerset will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home by David Baker. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
He died Sunday at Britthaven Nursing Home in Somerset.
Born July 29, 1943, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late James H. and Sarah J. Franklin McKinney. He was a former employee of Royal Industries in Danville and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Somerset.
Survivors include his wife, Zelpha VonLinger McKinney; a daughter, Jennifer Williams of Somerset; a son, Robert McKinney of Somerset; two brothers, Donald L. McKinney of Stanford and Larry J. McKinney of Danville; a sister, Peggy A. Douglas of Danville; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Williams, John Stamper, Forest Martin, Bill Denney and David Harrison.

LAWRENCEBURG -- Ernest Lawrence Carss, 60, of McCrosky Pike, Harrodsburg, formerly of Bellingham, Mass., and Brampton, Ontario, Canada, died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born April 12, 1943, in Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest V. and Evelyn Pitt Carss. He was a member, director and judge for the American Hackney Society, a member of United Professional Horseman Association, Canadian Hackney Association, American Road Horse and Pony Association and a recognized judge for the U.S. Equestrian Federation.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Chamberlain Carss; four children, Shelley Carrs and Andrew Carrs, both of Brampton, and Rebecca and Dylan Carrs, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Betty Boxma of Ivy Lea, Ontario, Judy Patterson of Ajax, Ontario, and Vivian Carrs-Smith of Pembroke, Ontario; two brothers, Robert Carss of Edwards, Ontario, and Rodney Carss of Kanata, Ontario; and former wife, Joan Carss of Brampton.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ritche & Peach Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Owens.

HARRODSBURG -- Lucille M. Preston, 81, of Jackson Pike died Saturday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 31, 1922, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Virginia B. Larkin Preston. She was a self-employed home health care giver and a member of Joseph Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Preston of Harrodsburg.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Gary Story and Danny Wiley. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Shirley Bruner; two sons, Floyd Bruner of Indianapolis and Vernon Bruner of Lancaster; three daughters, Martha Barnes of Danville, Mary Bruner of Lancaster and Brenda Woods of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Alene Humphrey of Indianapolis, Beulah Thomas of Lancaster and Nannie B. Adams of Newport; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
