Dr. Paul J. Sides

LANCASTER -- Services for Dr. Paul Jesse Sides, 81, of West Maple Avenue will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lancaster United Methodist Church by the Revs. Don Hatton and Bob Coppings. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

He died Monday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital.

Born June 27, 1923, in Columbia, Mo., he was the son of the late Silas and Florilla Randolph Sides. He earned his bachelor of science degree at University of Missouri and his medical degree from University of Louisville. He performed his internship at Louisville General Hospital and served in a branch of the Navy for three years. From 1949 until his retirement in 1998, he practiced medicine in Garrard County, where he was a longtime chief of staff at Garrard County Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church, where he served for many years as chairman of the board and finance committee. He was a longtime member and past president of the Lancaster Kiwanis Club. He also had served on the school board and was chairman of many local fund drives for health organizations. He was a member of the Kentucky Academy of Family Practitioners, serving a term as president, Kentucky Medical Association and American Medical Association.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Carter Sides; two sons, Paul J. Sides Jr. of Kingsport, Tenn., and Thomas R. Sides of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Linda S. Struckhoff of Columbia, Mo., and Marion S. Vruggink of West Lafayette, Ind.; a sister, Florilla S. Davis of Columbia, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are Drs. Steve Green, Jim Werkmeister, Nicholas Martin, Randall Wilson and Mac Vandiviere.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Ramsey Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, 40423; Garrard County Memorial Hospital; or Lancaster United Methodist Church, c/o Monica West, 1242 Crab Orchard Rd., Lancaster 40444.

Ada W. Arnett

SOMERSET -- Ada Marie Wireman Arnett, 82, of Salyersville died Sunday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Proctor and Mattie Arnett Wireman. She was a homemaker, a member of Licking River Baptist Church in Royalton and the widow of Finley E. Arnett.

Survivors include a daughter, Stella A. Phillips Prewitt of Lancaster; two sisters, June Watson of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Molly Tate of Salyersville; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria A. Arnett.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Magoffin County Funeral Home by B.J. Taylor. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Lancaster First Assembly of God Church and after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Garrard County Memorial Hospital long-term care facility garden and patio fund, 308 Maple Ave., Lancaster, Ky. 40444.

Euphemia M. Smith

WAYNESBURG -- Euphemia Mae Smith, 76, of Eubank died Monday at Britthaven nursing home in Somerset.

Born Aug. 19, 1926, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus D. and Nettie Barnett Stonecypher. She was a bookkeeper and secretary, a member of the Baptist church and the widow of Jim Smith.

Survivors include two aunts, Blanche White of Waynesburg and Katherine May of Eubank; and a guardian, Sue Hubble of Eubank.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home by Vola Brown.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may go to Double Springs Baptist Church.

Henry Lamb

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Henry Lamb, 84, of Cottonwood Street will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Lester Tirey. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

He was the son of Brownie and Stella Morgan Lamb and the widower of Henrietta Dailey Lamb.

He died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Leona N. Smith

MORELAND -- Services for Leona Nutgrass Smith, 80, of Stanford will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Revs. Norris McCawley and Oral Denny. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

She died Sunday at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born June 10, 1922, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Bessie Bunch Nutgrass. She was a homemaker and a member of Maxey's Valley First Church of God. She was the widow of J.T. Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Marvenna Smith of Hustonville; a son, Tommy Joe Smith of Hustonville; a brother, Glenn Nutgrass of Stanford; a sister, Lucille Hays of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Martin, Charles Watts, Jerry Smith, Wesley Benedict, Barkley Lister and Lowell Lay.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

Ruby M. Crawford

Ruby Mae Golditz Crawford, 80, of Old Lancaster Road, died Thursday at Stanford House.

Born July 21, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lillie Owen Golditz. She was retired from IGA Food Market in Troy, Ohio, and was the widow of Charles R. Crawford.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Boyd of Stanford and Ruth Slusher of Troy, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Mote Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Ohio.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home.

Dewey L. Preston

Dewey Lee Preston, 65, of Nichols Street, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 25, 1937, in Junction City, he was the son of the late Della Garland and Willis Preston Sr. He was a retired building contractor, Army veteran and member of Eagles Nest Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Devine Preston; three sisters, Mary Hillard of Harrodsburg, Judy Williams of Junction City and Betty Hammons of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Willis Preston Jr. of Junction City and Cecil Preston of Danville.

He was preceeded in death by a daughter, Mary L. Preston, and two sons, Timothy L. and Dewey L. Preston Jr.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Revs. Johnny Montgomery and Dennis Hisle Jr. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Boyle Post 46.

Pallbearers will be Pat Williams, Alford Smith, Ralph and Billy Devine, Wesley Ogle, Michael Hillard, Brian Williams and Cecil Preston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael J. Lunsford, Patrick Williams II, Glenn Raines, Eddie Burton, Mike and Dale Preston, Doyle Williams and David Monson.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may got to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

LANCASTER -- Gordon Lee Graham, 50, of Lexington Road, Lancaster, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 20, 1952, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Robert and Ida Graham.

Survivors include a caregiver, Bessie Falb of Garrard County.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Ramsey Funeral Home by Greg Hager. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today.

William A. Hale

MORELAND -- William Arthur Hale, 85, of Hustonville, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 9, 1917, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Bruce and Hester Peyton Hale.

Survivors include his wife, Della M. Vaught Hale; a daughter, Gail Turpin of Ellisburg, a brother, Marvin Hale of Somerset; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one step great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Juanita L. Lanham

LANCASTER -- Juanita Lois Lanham, 79, of Poor Ridge Pike, died Thursday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born Oct. 30, 1923, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Barney "Pete" and Christine Preston East. She was a homemaker and former employee of Cowden's Manufacturing. She was a member of Scotts Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest Lanham of Lancaster; a son, Billy V. Lanham of Lancaster, a daughter, Karen McCully of Lancaster; two sisters, Doris R. Preston and Almeda Bruner, both of Lancaster; two grandchildren, three step grandchildren, a great grandson and a step great-granddaughter.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Bryce McCulley and Everett Priddy. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Holton and Harry D. Howard, Ray and Harvey Miller, Johnnie Lanham and Buford Carpenter.

Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Homer Lee

LANCASTER -- Homer Lee, 89, of Mt. Hebron Road, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Arber D. and Maggie Edgington Lee. He was a retired farmer and member of Forks of River Baptist Church. He was the widower of Loriene Lee.

Survivors include a son, Arber J. Lee of Lancaster; a daughter, Bonnie Ellis of Lancaster; four sisters, Lydia Gastineau, Francis Maupin, Arber D. Meadows and Anna D. Meadows, all of Lancaster, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Browning. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lee, Randall Ellis, Darrell and Ollie Edgington, Ronnie Maupin, Garth Lane, Bob Klausing and Bobby D. Browning.

Honorary pallbearers will be Auther J. Ray, Blake, Krista and Heather Lee, Miranda and Tiffany Ellis, David Goodlett and Carl Lane.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may go to Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.
