Maurice Gene Sallee, 73
Maurice Gene Sallee, 73, of Handley Avenue in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Louisville, Ky.
Son of the late William Arthur Sallee and Mary Anna Murrell, he was born on Sept. 21, 1930 in Taylor County, Ky., and attended Greensburg Separate Baptist Church.
He retired from the United States Air Force and Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.
He was married
to Sarah Stansell, who preceded him in death in October 1984. He was later married
to Emma Lee Allen, who preceded him in death in June 2003.
He was then married
to Mary Bell Curry on Aug. 11, 2003. She survives.
Other survivors include six children, Maurice Edward Sallee of Elkhorn, Deborah Turner of Cane Valley, Sharon White and Danny Ray Sallee, both of Campbellsville, Sarah Harmon of Columbia and James Darrell Sallee of Frankfort; one step-son, Jerry Edwards of Greensburg; his step-mother, Ruth Sallee of Campbellsville; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild; and seven brothers and sisters, Logan Sallee and Mary Elizabeth Vance, both of Greensburg, William E. Sallee, Daymon Sallee, Jewell Cox and Lora Mae Dudgeon, all of Campbellsville, and Athol Milby of Summersville.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Delores Bell Sallee in 1938.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. on Jan. 13 at the Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Bro. Dan Perkins officiated.
Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Doug Cox, Jerry Edwards, Bobby Harmon, Arthur L. Milby, Danny Sallee and James Shofner.
Benjamin "Ben" Lewis Johnson, 71
Benjamin "Ben" Lewis Johnson, 71, of Campbellsville, Ky., died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.
Son of the late William and Viola Tucker Johnson, he was a member of Fannie Chapel C.M.E. Church.
He was married
Maxine Smith Johnson, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army, fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a retired employee of Forum and Lannon and R.A. Williams Development Company.
Other survivors include three daughters, Duranda Johnson of Campbellsville, Felecia Johnson-Almy of Aurora, Ill., and Sheela Dawkins of Columbus, Ohio; four granddaughters, Kimberly, Dayvette, Candace and Kennedy; one great-grandson, Jaquous Benjamin; five sisters, Florence Riles of Columbus, Ga., Jane Groves and Mildred Smith, both of Campbellsville, Linda Farley of Louisville and Wanda Mattingly of New Albany, Ind.; six brothers, James of Lebanon, Godfrey of San Diego, Calif., Charles of Campbellsville, and Elwood, Owen and Lonnie, all of Louisville; one uncle, Silas Tucker of Campbellsville; and two special friends, Donald Keith and Carrie Smith.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Tucker, Billy Johnson and Bob Johnson.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Fannie Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The Rev. Bruce Burns Sr. officiated.
Burial was in the Lebanon National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Johnson, Troy Handley, Willie Haskins, Robert Montgomery, Leon Rice and Gary Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Tony Williams, Wilbur Williams, Mark Russell, Jr. Pennington, Ralph Smith Jr., Lloyd Rice, Bill Black, Carl Miller, Larry Durham, Paul Haskins, James Sickles, Donald K. Smith, James Mitchell, Alonzo Durham, Clem Haskins and James Russell.
Buchanan-Robinson & Percell Funeral Home in Campbellsville was in charge of local arrangements.
Chandler 'C.D.' Claywell, 87
Chandler "C.D." Claywell, 87, of East Martin Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, after an illness.
Son of the late Daniel Webster and Mina Lou Gilbert Claywell, he was a retired farmer.
He was married
to Lorene Claywell, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Don Richard Claywell of London; three daughters, Dorothy Dickens and Betty Jane Smith, both of Campbellsville, and Phyllis Jean Heisler of Hopkinsville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clarksie Sharp of Campbellsville.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters, Caber Claywell, Calup Claywell, Connie Claywell, Creedy Claywell and Clayty Claywell.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13 at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Jim Durham officiated.
Pallbearers were Steve LaPradd, Mike Smith, Greg Neat, Tommy Grimes, Dustin Long and Elliott Long.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Robert Romines, Jimmy Dickens and John Heisler.
Millie Stotts, 88
Millie Stotts, 88, of 1192 Addition One Drive in Columbia, Ky., died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at the Westlake Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Daughter of the late Rev. Joe Ervin and Cordia Campbell Stotts, she was a member of Harrods Fork Baptist Church, was a homemaker and a former employee of the Charleston Powder Plant in Charlestown, Ind.
She is survived by two brothers, George Stotts and Carlos Stotts, both of Columbia; three sisters, Mildred Murphy of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Peggy Compton of Frostproof, Fla., and Ocella Corbin of Columbia; and nine nephews and 10 nieces, including one special niece, Melissa Corbin of Columbia.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Stotts; and one sister, Gladwyn Wilson.
Funeral was Sunday, Jan. 18 at Harrods Fork Baptist Church with the Revs. Lewis Haynes and Jessie Hagan officiating. Burial was in Harrods Fork Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Corbin, Kenny Corbin, Ralph Murphy, Rodney Reynolds, Robert Stotts and Douglas Wilson.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
Todd Smock, 42
Todd Smock, 42, of Highland Lick Road in Russellville, Ky., died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at his home following a long illness.
Son of Jean and Junior E. Smock of Russellville, he was born in Ford County, Ill., on Feb. 10, 1961.
He was a carpenter and a member of Elk Lick Baptist Church.
Other survivors include one son, Christopher Todd Smock of Olmstead, Ky.; two brothers, Barry Smock of Sante Fe, N.M., and Troy Smock of Russellville; two sisters, Donna Ezell of Russellville and Joni Davis of Campbellsville; two grandchildren, Ethan Smock and Jacob Smock; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel with Bros. Reed Bunton and Troy Luttrell officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Lick Cemetery.
