Laura "Libby" Alfrey, 79
Laura "Libby" Alfrey, 79, of Old Spurlington Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in Campbellsville.
Daughter of the late Joseph Peter Lamb and Nellie Mae Sampley Lamb, she was born on June 23, 1924 in Knoxville, Tenn.
She married
Kenneth Eugene "Pete" Alfrey on Feb. 1, 1941. He survives.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Kenneth Alfrey and Mary Jane McClellan of Bristol, Tenn., Betty Jean and Frank Kidwell of Campbellsville and Richard D. and Lisa Alfrey of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Chris Kidwell and his wife, Christie, of Campbellsville, Jonathan Kidwell of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Shane Alfrey of Marietta, Ga., and Candy Alfrey of Dalton, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Emma Kidwell of Louisville, Ky., and Cass Kidwell, Cole Kidwell and Clark Kidwell, all of Campbellsville; two sisters and one brother, Alice Jones of Lafollette, Tenn., Iva Loy and husband, Roscoe, of Knoxville, and Clifford Lamb and wife, Mae, of Orlando, Fla.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, George Alex Kidwell; and two brothers, George Lamb and Jim Lamb.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the Revs. Tim Shockley and Montie Fugate officiating. Burial will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Alfrey, Richard Alfrey, Shane Alfrey, Frank Kidwell, Chris Kidwell and Jonathan Kidwell.
Don Houk, 71
Don Houk, 71, of Bell Avenue in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Campbellsville.
Son of the late Charles Edwards and Martha Bea Thompson Houk, he was born on March 26, 1932 in Green County, Ky. He was a member of Southside Christian Church and was retired from Western Kentucky Gas Co.
He married
Peggy Gumm Houk on June 26, 1968. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Patricia Carol Baldwin of Lexington, Ky., and Bridgette Sue Durham of Bowling Green, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jason Brandon Baldwin of Campbellsville and Austin Thomas Durham of Bowling Green; and one sister and one brother, Barry Martin Houk of Greensburg and Bonnie Ferryman of Louisville, Ky.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister, Junius Houk, Rudolph Houk, Doyce Houk, James Houk, Rual Houk, Bobby Joe Houk, Maxie Houk and Polly Rogers.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 15 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with Bros. Mike Manoski and Elmer Wheatley officiating. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Randall Bell, Austin Thomas Durham, Jeff Finn, Buck Gumm, Melvin Houk, Robbie Houk and Don Wheatley.
Honorary pallbearers were Phil Durham, Larry Finn, Steve Hash, Dale Houk, Lemand Houk, Maxie Houk, Verlas Miller, Butch McClure, Reed Neagle, Alvin Richerson, Randall Rogers, Herbert Veatch and Chester Warner.
Agnes "Bueford" Fryrear, 85
Agnes "Bueford" Fryrear, 85, of Bardstown, Ky., died on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at her home.
Survivors include one son, Rod Fryrear of Lincoln, Neb.; three daughters, Mary Agnes Walcott, Shirley Bodine and Ruby Smith, all of Bardstown; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Bowman of Louisville, Ky., and Herman Bowman of Greensburg, Ky.; and one niece, Brenda Hall of Green County.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at the Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown. Burial was in the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Nelson County and may be made at the Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg.
H.C. Patterson, 75
H.C. Patterson, 75, of Greensburg, Ky., died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at his home.
Son of the late Roy Richard Patterson and Ethel Tucker Patterson, he was born on Thursday, Dec. 6, 1928, in Green County. A member of Greensburg Baptist Church, he served as a trustee, usher, the counting committee and was in the adult men's Sunday School Class No. 2.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the United States Army and was retired as parts manager at Goff Motors.
He married
Doris Ann Acree on June 19, 1954. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1988. He married
Jane Ward on Oct. 5, 1991. She survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sandy Patterson and Tony and Donna Patterson, all of Greensburg; two step-sons, Donnie Haney of Edmonton, Ky., and Jesse Haney III of Dixon, Tenn.; two brothers, Elmer Patterson and Mitchell Patterson, both of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Alex Patterson and Ashley Patterson, both of Greensburg; five step-grandchildren, Jason Haney of New Albany, Ind., Jessica Haney of Sulphur Well, Ky., Alyson Haney of Nashville, Tenn., and Brandon Haney and Bowen Haney, both of Edmonton.
Funeral was Thursday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home with burial in Greensburg Cemetery. The Revs. Ty Clenney and Mike Akridge will officiate.
Active pallbearers were James Howard Patterson, Richard Tucker Patterson, Donnie Haney, Jim Morgan, Pete Kessler and Rex Paxton.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the adult men's Sunday School Class No. 2 at Greensburg Baptist Church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Greensburg Baptist Church Van Fund.
Ruby Lee Skaggs, 88
Ruby Lee Skaggs, 88, of Sanders Road in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Metzmeier Nursing Home after an illness.
Daughter of the late Charlie and Violet Cox Sanders, she was a homemaker and a member of Saloma Baptist Church.
She was married
to Edgar Skaggs, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Elliott Skaggs of Greenville, Ky., and Wilson Skaggs and Judy Wurmser, both of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mildred Sanders; and three nephews and two nieces.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Durham Sanders.
Funeral was Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Earl Pike officiated.
Pallbearers were Mike Skaggs, Billy Skaggs, Ronnie Skaggs, Anthony Skaggs and Charlie Skaggs, Joey Skaggs.
Nannie M. Willis, 96
Nannie M. Willis, 96, of Columbia, Ky., died on Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Summit Manor Nursing Home.
Daughter of the late William G. and Mattie Lee Williams McKinley, she was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, a school teacher and a clerk.
She was married
to Otha Willis, who preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1970.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Virginia Morris of Louisville, Ky., Luther Ray Redmon, Marilyn Stivers, Linda Grider and Joe Bishop McKinley, all of Columbia; and a sister-in-law, Josie McKinley of Columbia; four great nephews; one great niece; two great-great nephews; and five great-great nieces.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Bascum B.B. McKinley, Bill Gordon McKinley, Calvin McKinley, Pina Redmon and Daisy Hill.
Funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Stott-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, by the Rev. Richard Lowe. Burial was in Columbia Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Loy, Edwin Taylor, Jessie Loy, Don Pelly, Roy Dean and Charlie Roy.
