Leon Murphy, 67
Leon Murphy, 67, of Columbia, Ky., died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky., after an illness.
Son of the late Payton and Ruby Brown Murphy, he attended Sparksville Church of the Nazarene and was a retired farmer.
Murphy is survived by his wife, Diane Groce Murphy of Columbia; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Carol Murphy, Timmy and Deena Murphy and David and Angie Murphy, all of Columbia; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and David Combs of Edmonton; three brothers, Millard Murphy and Sherman Murphy, both of Albany, Ky., and Jimmy Murphy of Columbia; one sister, Pinna Hagan of Glasgow, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Pauline Groce of Burkesville, Ky.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Murphy and Kendal Murphy.
Funeral was at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29 at Sparksville Church of the Nazarene. Bro. Lonny Karnes officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lewis Parnell, Fred Sexton, Mickey Murphy, Keith Groce, Jimmy Murphy Jr. and Terry Murphy.
Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia was in charge of arrangements.
Della Burress, 98
Della Burress, 98, of London Drive in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in Campbellsville.
Daughter of the late Rev. W.H. Cave and Ida Catherine Farmer Cave, she was born on June 15, 1905 in McDowell County, W.Va., and was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was married
to William Horace Burress, who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1992.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Rose Cave and Allen L. and Anne Burress, all of Campbellsville; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Madeline and James Morrison of Campbellsville; one step-daughter-in-law, Cleo Burress of Mt. Washington; 13 grandchildren, Dr. John Burress of Boston, Mass., Diane Mahoney of Meade County, Larry Cave, Danny Cave, Terry Cave, Sheila Kiper, Elizabeth Hale, Ronnie Morrison, Gary Burress and Darrell Burress, all of Campbellsville, and Brian Burress and Diane Burgin, both of Mt. Washington; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one step-son, William Horace Burress Jr. on Aug. 25, 1992; one grandson, Allen Burress Jr.; two brothers and four sisters, Monroe Cave, Claude Cave, Nettie Kilby, Dorothy Mings, Flora Ball and Dora Landrum.
Funeral was on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Campbellsville with Ron Ferree officiating.
Burial was in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Margie Brown, Steve Campbell, Lula Mae Dooley, Billy Henderson, David Henderson Sr., Richard Simpson, Norman Sullivan, Helen Van Dyke and Ike Van Dyke.
James W. Allen, 77
James W. Allen, 77, of Casey Creek, Ky., died on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Campbellsville, Ky.
Son of the late J.W. Allen and Nannie White Allen, he was born on Nov. 2, 1926 in Barren County, Ky., and was of the Methodist faith.
He retired from General Electric Co. in Louisville, Ky., and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include two children, Jane Levesque of Springfield, Ill., and Edward Lee Allen of Casey Creek; four grandchildren, Tommy Levesque of Casey Creek, Susan Wise and Kathy Davis, both of Campbellsville, and Sharon Hutchins of Hodgenville; five great-grandchildren, Kristin Wheatley, Seth Hogan Wise and Zachary Isaac Wise, all of Campbellsville, and Allison Elizabeth Hutchins and Andrew Hutchins, both of Hodgenville; and one brother, two sisters and spouses, Dr. Damon E. and Shirley Allen, Clara Lee and Pete Rafferty and Mabel Smith, all of Campbellsville.
He was preceded in death one sister, Josie Ann Newcomb.
Funeral is at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Rev. Troy Elmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Elkhorn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Cox, James Cross, Roy Holt, Dee Hutchins, Tommy Levesque and Greg Wise.
Pauline Wayne, 70
Pauline Wayne, 70, of Beechwood Drive in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in Elizabethtown, Ky.
Daughter of the late Turner and Anna Mae Deener Wayne, she was born on July 20, 1933 in Taylor County, Ky., and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.
She was retired from the Taylor County School System after 42 years of teaching. She was active in the community and a member of numerous organizations including: Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Taylor County Retired Teachers Association, the Harmony Homemakers Club, and Campbellsville Business and Professional Women's Club. She had traveled to 85 countries and 50 states.
She is survived by one brother, one sister and their spouses, James Edward and Lucy Wayne of Campbellsville and Marjorie and Don Sheets of Danville, Ky.; one brother-in-law, Hiestand Johnson of Campbellsville; eight nieces and nephews, Wayne Johnson, Gary Johnson and Randy Wayne, all of Campbellsville, Patti Price of Suwanee, Ga., Vicki Kinnaird of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Shari Alexander of Glasgow, Ky., Toni Sheets of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Melissa Sheets of Bowling Green, Ky.; and 11 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Jean Johnson on Nov. 3, 2002.
Funeral is Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Revs. George R. Gaddie and Skip Alexander will officiate.
Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gary Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Josh Johnson, Mark Kinnaird, Daniel Wayne and David Wayne.

Carl Bradshaw, 72, Glensfork
Carl Bradshaw, 72, of Glensfork, Ky., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home after an illness.
Son of the late Condy and Hallie Collins Bradshaw, he was of the Baptist faith and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Grant Bradshaw; three daughters, Brenda Lawless and Dean Shearer, both of Jamestown and Jean Arnold of Columbia; a son, Dale Bradshaw of Glensfork; and five grandchildren, Louie Compton, Waylon Bradshaw, Jason Shearer, Megan Arnold and Clint Bradshaw.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda May Bradshaw, who died in 1952; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Lawless, Shawn and Don Shearer and Christian Bradshaw.
Funeral was Sunday, Feb. 1 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jessie Jewell officiating. Interment was in Grant Cemetery in Glensfork.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Compton, Mike Grant, Gary Hadley, Roy Lawless, and Ray and Roy Morrison.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray and Terry Grant, Terry Grider, Coy Morrison and Al Sullivan.
Mary Lee Hood, 77
Mary Lee Hood, 77, of 601 Tutt St. in Columbia died at 9:22 a.m., Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the Westlake Regional Hospital emergency room in Columbia.
She was the daughter of the late Don Carlos and Sara Alice Williams Willis of Adair County, Ky.
Hood was a member of Columbia Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for 45 years. She was office manager and bookkeeper at Adair Memorial Hospital, Westlake Hospital and Westlake Home Health from 1981 until her retirement. She was also a substitute teacher in the Adair County School System.
She is survived by her husband, James Hood of Columbia; two sons, Rick Hood and his wife Debbie of Nicholasville, and Jeff Hood and his wife Kim of Lexington; four grandchildren, Kim Russell, Chris Hood, Lance Hood and Madison Hood; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Zach and Kelty Hood and Ella Russell; and three sisters, Sharon Greer of Knifley, Margaret Cox of Cincinnati and Brenda Williams of Palm Springs, Calif.
Funeral was Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Terry White officiating. Burial was in the Columbia Cemetery.
The family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to the building fund of Columbia Christian Church. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Grant, Bill Greer, Gregory Greer, Danny Propes, Jimmy Tupman and Paul Webb.
