Rue Simpson Burris, 86
Rue Simpson Burris, 86, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in Campbellsville, Ky., at Taylor Regional Hospital.
Born on Tuesday, July 17, 1917, in Adair County, Ky., he was the son of the late Alexander "Alec" Burris and Lou Emma Beard Burris.
He was a member of Summershade United Methodist Church. He was also a farmer.
Burris was married
to Hortense Carter on June 7, 1939. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Betty Davis of Shepherdsville, Ky.; two sons, Bobby Joe Burris of Green County, Ky., and Jackie Burris of Campbellsville; two brothers, A.Z. Burris of Portland, Ky., and Eunie Burris of Green County; three half-sisters, Shirley Smith of Greensburg, Joyce Poole of Tennessee and Mary Elizabeth Burris of Edmonton, Ky.; two half-brothers, Rollin Burris of Green County and Bill Burris of Lexington, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Frankie Burris; three brothers, Roy Burris, Taft Burris and Tommy Burris; and two half-sisters, Norene Rowe and Gracie Blankenship.
Funeral was Saturday, Feb. 14 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial was in Summershade Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Roberson, the Rev, Jerry Carter and the Rev. Dennis Parrigin officiated.
Pallbearers were T.J. Burris, Phillip Burris, Michael Davis, J.T. Burris, Charlie Simpson and Danny Burris.
Honorary pallbearers were Paul Mitchell, Bill Burris, Mike Burris, David Burris, Hollis Burris, Gleason Sullivan, Benny Handy and Randall Rowe.
Malcolm Wayne Kessler, 61
Malcolm Wayne Kessler, 61, of Green County, Ky., died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at his home.
Son of Lillie Francis Kessler of Greensburg, Ky., and the late Herman Kessler, he was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1942, in Green County. A member of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, where he was song leader for several years, he retired from teaching after 28 years and was a farmer.
He married
Connie Lobb on June 16, 1966. She survives.
Besides his mother and his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Heather Kessler of Bowling Green, Ky., and Bryan and Donna Kessler of Greensburg; six grandchildren, Todd Kessler, Evan Kessler, Sarah Kessler and Emily Kessler, all of Bowling Green, and R.J. Dunagan and Allison Dunagan, both of Greensburg; two sisters, Janet Overly of Lexington, Ky., and Karen Blakeman of Bowling Green; and his mother-in-law, Beatrice Squires of Greensburg.
Funeral will be Friday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. The Revs. David Alexander and Dee Dowdy will officiate.
Active pallbearers are Bob Olt, Billy L. Squires, David Pierce, Billy Con Patterson, Harry Kessler, Tim Simpson, Shorty Bloyd and Willard "Oz" Coffey.
Honorary pallbearers are William Wright, Mel Shuffett, Homer Simpson, Jerry Powell, Joe Durham Blakeman, Carl Perkins and Dr. Joe Miller.
Jean M. Scudieri
Jean M. Scudieri, 74, of Greensburg, Ky., died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at her home in Greensburg.
Daughter of the late Anthony Buonauro and Josephine Picardi Buonauro, she was born on Monday, March 11, 1929, in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Chicago. A caregiver, she ran a mini-home for the disabled.
On Nov. 25, 1970, she married
Philip Horace Scudieri, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1991.
She is survived by five daughters and their spouses, Christina M. and Stanley Wethington, Olivia "Bo" and Roger Wethington, and Angelina M. Scudieri and Mercedes Medina, all of Greensburg, and Cynthia L. Rueda, June Waggner and Jean and Robert Hague, all of Chicago; three sons and their spouses, Gregory K. and Karen Rueda of Pearl River, La., Clark C. and Brenda Rueda of Stickney, Ill., and Angelo Scudieri Curry of Horse Cave, Ky.; a step-son, Ronnie Scudieri of Canada; 18 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Barbara Buonauro of Wisconsin; and four special friends, Helen England, Lynn Tyree, Ellen O'Donnell and Betty Gail Pickett, all of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by one son, Richie Scudieri; one brother, Carmen Buonauro; and one sister, Marie Graff.
Funeral is Friday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with cremation to follow.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Panczuk, Joey Lacyniak, Nick Itayem, Joey Lachowicz and Gregory Rueda Jr.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hospice of Central Kentucky and can be made at the funeral home.
Ernestine Burris Brown, 70
Ernestine Burris Brown, 70, of Columbus, Ind., formerly of the Gradyville Community in Adair County, Ky., died on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Ind.
Daughter of the late Elmer and Nonie Roach Burris, she was a member of Glenlawn Pentecostal Church in Seymour, Ind., and worked at Arbie Restaurant.
She was married
to Herman L. Brown, who survives.
Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda "Brown" and Joe Welliver of Columbus, Ind.; one brother, Carl Burris of Gradyville; one sister, Evelyn Squires of Campbellsville, Ky.; and one grandson, Travis Leslie Brown.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters.
Funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, Ky. The Rev. Homer Roberts will officiate.
Interment will be in Tarter Chapel Cemetery in Milltown, Ky.
Pallbearers are Clay Keith, Jackie Stinson, Travis Brown, Clifford Roach, Donnie Keith and Earl Squires.
Anna Lee Hunt Brewer, 94
Anna Lee Hunt Brewer, 94, of Morristown, Ind., died on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield, Ind.
Daughter of the late Edward Nolley and Frances "Fanny" Harris, she was born on July 23, 1909 in Marion County, Ky.
She was married
to Hubert R. Brewer on Oct. 24, 1936. He preceded her in death.
She was employed by Ayr-Way & LS Ayres, retiring in 1968. She was a homemaker and was a member of Morristown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, George and Gleoria Mae Burris of Morristown, Ind., and Bonnie Cooksey of Fountaintown, Ind.; one son, Doral Hunt of Shelbyville, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, LeRoy Brewer; one grandson, Jeff Burris; and three great-grandsons, Gage, Scotty and Justin.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Morristown United Methodist Church in Morristown, Ind. The Rev. Kenneth Wooden officiated.
Interment was in Asbury Cemetery.
Janie Jessie Edwards, 67
Janie Jessie Edwards, 67, of Green County, Ky., died on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at her home.
Daughter of the late Lee Ander Jessie and Mary Mercer Jessie, she was born on Thursday, Sept. 10, 1936, in Metcalfe County, Ky.
Edwards was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church and was a former machine operator at Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.
She was married
to Demmon Edwards on March 7, 1953. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Frances Edwards and Paula Bishop, both of Greensburg; one stepdaughter, Ernestine Jessie of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Orry Bishop and Stephen Lewis Bishop and his wife, Christina Milby Bishop, all of Greensburg; one great-grandchild, Madison Noelle Bishop of Greensburg; two sisters, Pauline Hiser of Greensburg and Pearl Tarter of Louisville, Ky.; and one son-in-law, Bob Brumm of Oklahoma.
Meadows was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Alice Brumm on March 3, 1998; six sisters, Kathleen Ballard, Venie Arms, Clementine Poynter, Bertha Mercer, Nora England and Elma Mercer; and three brothers, Earl Jessie, Leon Jessie and Henry England.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will be in Greasy Creek Cemetery. The Revs. Wilburn Bonta and Landon Hadley will officiate.
Pallbearers are Johnny Houk, Nathan Laramore, Farron Poynter, Allan Poynter, Eddie Tudor, Shortie Keltner and Nathan McCullough.
