Virginia Christine Wright, 80
Virginia Christine Wright, 80, died on Friday, March 5, 2004, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky.
Daughter of the late Albert Judd and Lillian Ervin Judd, she was born on Thursday, April 5, 1923, in Green County, Ky.
Wright was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, a former cook and a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Estes of Campbellsville; two sons, Ralph Hudgins Jr. of Glasgow and Danny Hudgins of Campbellsville; two sisters, Pauline Burton of Campbellsville and Betty Lou Taylor of Summersville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Joe Pyles of Greensburg, Ky.
Funeral was on Sunday, March 7 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Henderson officiated.
Pallbearers were Eric Hudgins, Jeremy Thompson, Mark Chaudoin, Bobby Fisher, Kenny Dile and Joe Pyles.
Marshall Howard Bright, 80
Marshall Howard Bright, 80, of Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Elkhorn, Ky., died on Tuesday, March 10, 2004, in Santa Barbara.
Son of the late Samuel and Valera Bright, he was born on April 1, 1923.
He joined the Army in 1939 and earned the Purple Heart while serving Gen. Patton in the 3rd Armored Division. After the war, he settled in Santa Barbara and became a builder and craftsman.
Bright was married
to Evelyn King, who survives.
Besides his wife, Bright is survived by two sons, Gary Bright of Santa Barbara and Bryan Bright of Campbellsville; one brother, Samuel Bright of Campbellsville; one sister, Virginia of Louisville; and four grandsons, Travis Bright and Trevor Bright, both of Santa Barbara, and Sam Bright and Ben Bright, both of Campbellsville.
Bright was also preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth; and two brothers, Edward and Douglas.
Burial was in Santa Barbara. Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
James Timothy Fowler Sr., 47
James Timothy "Tim" Fowler Sr., 47, of Raywick, Ky., died on Saturday, March 13, 2004, at J. Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville, Ky.
Son of the late James Raymond Fowler and Eva Marie Tungate Fowler, he was born on Aug. 8, 1956 in Marion County, Ky.
Fowler was assistant manager of Loretto Foodland for more than 20 years and had served as fire chief of the Raywick Fire Department for the past 12 years.
He is survived by one daughter, Jessica Tonya Colvin of Campbellsville, Ky.; one son, James "Jimmy" Timothy Fowler Jr. of Lebanon, Ky.; three sisters, Cheryl Bland of Lebanon, Rose Marie Riggs of St. Francis, Ky., and Tamara Jonella Sapp of Campbellsville; three grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Raywick, with the Rev. James W. Graf officiating.
Members of the Raywick Fire Department served as pallbearers.
Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto was in charge of arrangements.
Charlie P. Penick, 79
Charlie P. Penick, 79, of Greensburg, Ky., died on Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, Ky.
Son of the late Shipley Thomas Penick and Lena Milby Penick, he was born on Monday, Sept. 22, 1924, in Green County, Ky.
He was a member of Campbellsville Separate Baptist Church and a retired maintenance worker for Fruit of the Loom.
Penick was married
to Geneva Milby on Dec. 22, 1943. She survives.
Besides his wife, Penick is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Phyllis Penick of Summersville, Ky., Doug and Jane Penick of Campbellsville, Dennis and Brenda Penick of Greensburg and Rex and Terri Penick of Maryland; two daughters, Selena Marcum and Ramona Penick, both of Green County; one sister, May Buckner of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Penick was also preceded in death by two grandchildren; two brothers, Pat Penick and Elmer Buck Penick; and two sisters, Mary Bartley and Jennie Snyder.
Funeral is at noon, Friday, March 12 at Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will follow in the Carlisle-Milby Cemetery. Bro. Robert Morris and Bro. Troy Grider will officiate.
Pallbearers are Kent Penick, Robbie Penick, Brian Penick, Bobby Marcum Jr., Joe Penick and Adam Marcum.

Sherry Lynn Sapp, 31
Sherry Lynn Sapp, 31, of Speck Ridge Road in Elkhorn, Ky., died on Saturday, March 13, 2004, in Louisville, Ky., after a brief illness.
Daughter of Freddy and Patty Cox Burress of Elkhorn, she was born on July 31, 1972, in Jefferson County, Ky.
Sapp attended Feathersburg Church of God.
She was married
to Joe Sapp on Dec. 10, 1993. He survives.
Besides her husband and parents, Sapp is survived by twin daughters, Natalie and Emily Sapp of Elkhorn; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Adonna Burress of Lexington, Ky., and J.R. and Sondra Burress of Elkhorn; her grandparents, Lester Wallace and Burdis Burress of Elkhorn; her great-grandmother, Ophelia McDonald of Elkhorn; four nieces; two nephews; eight aunts; eight uncles; one great-aunt; and two special friends, Nancy McNear and Jerry Atkinson, both of Elkhorn.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. The Rev. Norris McCawley will officiate. Burial will be in Feathersburg Church of God Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bobby Burress, Keith Burress, Robbie Burress, Jason Childress, Scott Childress and Tony Childress.
Berteen Garrett, 73
Berteen Garrett, 73, of Bakers Branch Road in Elkhorn, Ky., died on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Elkhorn.
Daughter of the late Henry McKinney and Edna Plants McKinney, she was born on May 29, 1930, in Curry, W.Va.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also attended Campbellsville Church of the Nazarene.
Garrett is survived by two sons, three daughters and their spouses, Carl A. and Janet Brill of Colorado Springs, Colo., David Mills of Louisville, Ky., Sandra "Sue" and Gary Mauermann of Orleans, Ind., Teresa Morgan and Drenda and Darrell Skaggs, all of Campbellsville; two grandchildren, Derek Mauermann of Orleans, Ind., and Amanda Russell of Campbellsville; two brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Donald and Janet McKinney of Gallipolis, Ohio, Dennis and Debbie McKinney of Circleville, Ohio, Florence and Herb Schulte of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Pauline Wilson of Centerville, Ohio; a special friend, James Shelton Raikes; dear friends, Debbie MacConaugha, Patsy Moran and Pricilla DeSpain; dear friends of the family, Danny Clark and Dr. Eric Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers, Audra McKinney, Clay McKinney and Raymond McKinney.
Funeral was at 11 a.m., Friday, March 12 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. President Dean Cooper of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Pastor Clifton Hale officiated. Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
