Mildred McGruder, 82
Mildred McGruder, 82, of Louisville, Ky., died on Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Louisville.
Daughter of the late Ellis McGruder and Golbie Johnson McGruder, she was born on July 7, 1921 in Jefferson County, Ky.
She was a retired nurse, having worked at Our Lady of Peace Hospital for 36 years.
Survivors include her grandchildren, John Chandler of New York, N.Y., and Nicole Chandler of Salisbury, Md.; three sisters, Irene Harris of Louisville, Bertha McGruder of New York, N.Y., and Elaine Sanders of Cleveland, Ohio; and a friend, Rachel Hunt Nelson of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by one son, John E. Chandler.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18 at the Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville.
Burial will be in the Mt. Gilboa Baptist Church Cemetery in Campbellsville.
Victor Hausley Vanarsdall, 77
Victor Hausley Vanarsdall, 77, of Green County, Ky., died on Friday, March 12, 2004, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
Son of the late Victor Vanarsdall and Julia Mae Montgomery Vanarsdall, he was born on May 13, 1926 in Green County and was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church.
Vanarsdall was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
He was a life member and chaplain for the Disabled Americans Veteran Chapter 70 in Taylor County and a member of the James L. Pruitt Post 5813 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Greensburg, Ky.
He was married
to Alma Arvel Mays on Dec. 23, 1944. She survives.
Other survivors include five children and their spouses, Gayle and Roy Jr. Antle, David R. and Patty Vanarsdall, Dillard H. and Janet Vanarsdall and Dellena J. and William Bishop, all of Greensburg, and DeVonna L. and David McVay of Fairplay, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Vanarsdall Knight and her husband Jim of Greensburg; one niece, Lela Martin of Greensburg; one cousin, Glenda Byrd of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Webster Vanarsdall on Aug. 31, 1982; one sister, Dorothy Jones; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was on Monday, March 15 at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg with burial in the Judd Cemetery. The Rev. Leo Curry and the Rev. Darrell Hensley officiated.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren.
Bernal Allen Dicken, 85
Bernal Allen Dicken, 85, of Eads Street in Campbellsville, Ky., died on Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Medco Nursing Home in Campbellsville after an illness.
Son of the late Johnnie Dicken and Annie Reeder Dicken of Clinton County, Ky., he was a member of Robinson Creek Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II and a retired employee of the Union Underwear Company.
Dicken is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Dicken; one son, Sanford Dicken; four grandchildren, Mark Dicken, Michael Dicken, Michelle Dicken and Jeanetta Lynn Hurst; three great-grandchildren, Jorson Hurst, Makayla Dicken and Cameron Dicken; and one sister, Hattie Bryant of Campbellsville
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy; one brother, Willie Dicken; and three sisters, Mattie Spears, Mary Canada and Verlie Ross.
Funeral was on Monday, March 29, 2004, at Lyon-DeWitt Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Marion County Disabled American Veterans. Bro. Bobby Cole and Brother Wayne Brooks officiated.
Pallbearers were Jodie Mings, Leonard Barnett, Jerry Parker, Buddy Loy, David Nelson and Kenneth Collins.
Clay Hadley, 58
Clay Hadley, 58, of Columbia, Ky., died on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Columbia.
He was the son of Pearl Green Hadley of Glensfork, Ky., and the late Preston Hadley.
He was employed at J.L. French Co. Plant 3 in Glasgow, Ky.
Other survivors include his wife, Harriet Compton Hadley of Columbia; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Clay Dwaine Hadley of Indianapolis, Ind., and Jamie Preston Hadley and Randy and Jean Hadley, all of Columbia; one brother, Clinis Hadley of Glensfork; three sisters, Amond Ovaline Thornsbury of Bardstown, Ky., Caroline Spoon of Glensfork and Catherine Hadley of Fairplay, Ky.; three grandchildren, Kiona Hadley, Kia Hadley and Aaron Hadley; and a special friend, David Richards.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clayton Hadley and Claudus Hadley.
Funeral was on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial was in McClister Cemetery at Fairplay. The Rev. Sam Burris officiated.
Pallbearers were Clayton Hadley Jr., Claudis Hadley, Curtis Hadley, Michael Spoon, Mark Spoon and Marty Spoon.
Bobby Joe Beard Sr., 61
Bobby Joe Beard Sr., 61, of Green County, Ky., died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at his home.
Son of Catherine Curry Beard of Greensburg and the late Opal Beard, he was born on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1942, in Green County and was a member of Liletown United Methodist Church.
Beard was an employee of Campbellsville Industries and a farmer.
He married
Rebecca Jean London on July 15, 1961. She survives.
Others survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bengal Bagby of Green County; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Joe Jr. and Lynn Beard and Billy Joe and Tina Beard, all of Green County; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jerry Lawler of Green County; and six grandchildren, Brandon Bagby, Brianne Bagby, Candice Beard, Kelsea Beard, Catlin Beard and Clayton Beard, all of Green County.
Funeral was on Saturday, April 3 at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg with burial in the Curry Family Cemetery. Bros. Dennis Crump and Meryl Young officiated.
Pallbearers were Grady Thompson, Kurt Jeffries, Meryl Young, Larry Beard, Jimmy Wilcoxson and Roy Parson.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy London, Junior Jessie, Tommy Thompson, Ken Ferguson, Robbie Bass, Mitchell London, Eddie Jessie, Johnny Beard, Burr Hearon, Ken Jolly, Ray London, Clifton Thompson, Louie Lyle, Ricky Woorley and Joe Houk.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Kentucky or Gideon Bibles.
Richard Truman Neagle, 81
Richard Truman Neagle, 81, of Louisville, Ky., died on Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at the Caritas Medical Center in Louisville.
Son of the late John Richard and Rosie Neagle, he was born in Green County, Ky., and was a member of Arcade Baptist Church.
Neagle was retired from Louisville Warehouse.
He was married
to Delora Pierce, who survives.
Other survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Walter J. and Earlene Neagle; one nephew and his wife, Steve and Sharon Neagle; and one great-niece and one great-nephew, Shelby Neagle and Shane Neagle.
Funeral was on Friday, March 26, at the Nunnelley Funeral Home in Louisville. Graveside service was held at the Warf Cemetery in Green County.
Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg was in charge of local arrangements.
