John M. Folger

CRAB ORCHARD -- Graveside Services for John McCrate Folger, 38, of Oklahoma, City, Okla., formerly of Waynesburg, were scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Double Springs Cemetery, Waynesburg, by Don Cummins.

He died Sunday after injuries in an auto accident.

Born Sept. 23, 1961, he was a son of Richard E. and Vera Ann Thompson Folger. He was a construction worker and attended the Anglican and Catholic churches.

Survivors include a son, Shawn Galveo of Canada; three sisters, Debbie McClesky of Owingsville, Vera Lee of Waynesburg and Dottie Brady of Victoria, British Columbia; a half sister, Karen Cundiff of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Charles Folger of Mackenzie, British Columbia; a half sister, Richard Folger of Beaver Creek, Ohio.

McKnight-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cecil Purdom

MORELAND -- Services for Cecil Purdom, 84, formerly of Hustonville, will be 2 p.m. Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Wayne Watts. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

He died Tuesday at Mayfair Manor in Lexington after a long illness.

Born April 16, 1916, in Gravel Switch, he was a son of the late Lem T. and Fannie Whitlock Purdom. He also was a retired farmer and cattle trader. He was a member of the Lions Club and Moreland United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was the widower of Ruth Tarkington Purdom.

Survivors include two sons, Barry Purdom of Lexington and Wayne Purdom of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Bill Jones, Tommy Yowell, Elwood Randolph, Ralph Whitis, Preston Leach, Jack Johnson and Jerry Wilcher.

Honorary pallbearers are Hartford Boyle, John Hester, Gene Sheene, Johnny Reed, Stanley Burris, David Downey, Neal Johnson and Arnold Wilcher.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to Moreland United Methodist Church or Hustonville Elementary School library fund.

M. Glynn Burke

LEXINGTON -- The Rev. Maurice Glynn Burke, 70, a former Christian Church minister, died Monday at his home in Lexington.

He was senior minister at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lexington from 1970 until his retirement in 1994, and was considered a leader in community programs.

The Danville native entered the ministry as a "Timothy" of First Christian Church in Danville and served in several churches, including Hustonville Christian Church and McCormack's Christian Church in Lincoln County before becoming senior minister at Central Christian Church.

Burke received his bachelor of arts degree from Transylvania University with a major in philosophy and religion and bachelor of divinity degree with honors from Lexington Theological Seminary. He received the doctor of divinity degree from Transylvania.

In 1995, he was co-winner of the Lauren K. Weinberg Humanitarian Award from the Bluegrass Chapter of National Conference for his work in the community. He also served as a member of the board of trustees and executive committee of Lexington Theological Seminary.

Born Nov. 29, 1929, in Danville, he was a son of the late Maurice G. and Nancy Fox Burke. He was the widow of Betty Jean Clarkson Burke.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca A. Burke of Berkeley, Calif., and Rosemary E. Burke of Lexington; a son, M. Glynn Burke III of Lexington; a brother, Samuel W. Burke of Danville; two sisters, Dorothy B. Hogue of Morrison, Ill., and Ann B. Young of Hampstead, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Thursday and following the service.

W.R. Milward Mortuary - Broadway is in charge or arrangements.

Cecil Purdom, former Hustonville principal, dies
MORELAND -- Cecil Purdom, 84, formerly of Hustonville, died Tuesday at Mayfair Manor in Lexington after a long illness.

Purdom, a retired school administrator, served as principal of Hustonville high and elementary schools and the old Moreland school during his 37-year career in the Lincoln County schools.

Margaret Short of Hustonville, Purdom's neighbor and fellow educator for 25 years, said of him, "He was one of the most dedicated educators I ever knew. He believed every child could learn, and if they couldn't, they could do something with their hands that was just as valuable.

"He was a good moral man, " she said.

Jack H. Carter

Jack Haldon Carter, 89, of Pleasant Hill Drive, Burgin, died today at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 9, 1911, in Gordo, Ala., he was a son of the late James E. and Mary M. Stapp Carter. He was a real estate investor.

Survivors include two brothers, Earl Carter of Terrell, Texas, and Norman "Hap" Carter of Fairhope, Ala.; a sister, Margaret Weiss of Mobile, Ala.; several nieces and nephews, including Don Hill of Danville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce A. Carter.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Bellevue Cemetery.

Memorials may go to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Lonnie Casey Jr.

Lonnie Casey Jr., 68, of Dayton, Ohio, died Tuesday at his home of natural causes.

Born in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Lucy Harris Casey. He was a retired employee of the Dayton Water Department, where he worked for 30 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Henrietta Byrd Lammers.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky Casey of Xenia, Ohio, and Lonnie Casey of Englewood, Ohio; two daughters, Hazel D. Mabe of Tipp City, Ohio, and Deborah Steinway of Dayton, Ohio; four brothers, William Casey, and Eugene and Ervin Pike, all of Parksville, and Elmer Pike of Indianapolis; two sisters, Shirley Gordon and Velma Pike, both of Parksville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Parksville.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may go to Hospice of Dayton.

James M. Bradshaw

HARRODSBURG -- James Morgan Bradshaw, 88, of West Office Street died Monday at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1911, in Moreland, he was a son of the late Harvey and Dora Noel Bradshaw. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a first class seaman and earned the Victory Medal and the American Area Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon. He was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and Glad Hand Sunday School class. He was a retired meat cutter for Jims Market, C&T Food Market and Frank Cash Food Store.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wilma Demaree Bradshaw; a son, Forrest B. Bradshaw of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James I. Bradshaw.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert DeFoor and Terry Cornish. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Simpson, Justin Bradshaw, Andie Cannon, Terry Cornish, Clarence Brown and Ernie Kelty.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Thursday.

Beryl L. Davis

GOLDTHWAITE, Texas -- Beryl Lee Davis, 60, of Goldthwaite died Monday at Hillview Manor Nursing Home.

Born June 18, 1940, in Danville, he was a son of the late Alfred and Ella J. Hargis. He was self-employed and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Lynna Vada Lewis; two daughters, Cindy Keller of Goldthwaite and Debbie Seamandel of Milwaukee, Wisc.; a son, Ricky Davis of Kerrville, Texas; a sister, Emily Preston of Lancaster; and three grandsons.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Georgetown, Texas.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Wilkins Funeral Home, 1415 Parker St., Goldthwaite.

Dora J. Miller

HARRODSBURG -- Dora Josephine Miller, 90, of College Manor died Tuesday at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 6, 1910, in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Ludwell C. and Emma L. Kurtz Cornish. She was the widow of Hubert W. Miller. She was a homemaker and a member of Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Zappone of Lexington.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John D. Lane. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials may go to Joseph Chapel United Methodist Church.
