David A. Turner, age 55, of Louisville, KY and formerly of Shelbyville, KY, died on Thursday, April 3, 2003 following an illness at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was the widower of Edith Louise Turner. Mr. Turner was a native of Des Moines, Iowa, and the son of the late David Edward and Evelyn Louise Spriggs Turner. He was a graduate of George Mason University with a B.A. in Computer Science. He was retired from the federal government, where he had worked as a computer systems program analyst for the Department of Education. He was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a published author of poetry and was a "computer wizard."
Survivors include his devoted companion, Diana Keith of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Michelle Turner of Shelbyville, KY and Kymberly Pearson of Triangle, VA; one foster son, Gregory Newton of Shelbyville, KY and six grandchildren.
A private burial was held at Calvary Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY.
Herbert Lee Foster

Rev. Herbert L. Foster, age 45, of Eminence, KY, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 15, 2002 at his home. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Nikki Foster Smith. Rev. Foster was a native of Cincinnati, OH and the son of the late Alger Lynn Foster, Sr. and Patricia Thompson Foster. He attended Indiana University-Southeast. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1975 until his honorable discharge in May 1979. During his Army service, he was a tank commander and the driver for Col. Patton, Jr., an assignment he took very seriously. He was decorated with numerous honors and medals during his military service. Rev. Foster was called into the ministry during his military service and has been an evangelist, singer, pastor and teacher since 1979 in Kentucky, Indiana and other states. He began his pastorate in 1984 at the Shelbyville Church of God, where he remained for the next three years. He then pastored at other churches in Kentucky and Indiana. His last curch was the New Hope Church of God in Eminence, where he has pastored since February 2001. He has made a tremendous difference in that congregation in the time he has spent with them. In addition to serving his congregation, he was in training for a chaplaincy for the Kentucky State Reformatory. He lived life to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was an All Star AAA baseball and basketball player. He was a truck driver for Allied Transport Systems for 18 years. Among his many interests and hobbies, he loved hot rod cars, trucks, motorcycles and horses. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

Virgil Hudson, age 93, of Bagdad, KY died on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 following an illness at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville, KY. He was the widower of Eva Tracy Hudson. Mr. Hudson was a native of Shelby County, KY, and the son of the late William Henry and Mary Melissa Hale Hudson. He was a farmer throughout his lifetime and was also a carpenter. He worked with Slucher Construction Company and J. W. Smith, Contractor. He was a member of Beechridge Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and had the distinction of being the oldest living member at the time of his death. He served in many capacities throughout his years at Beechridge, including deacon, trustee, clerk and many other offices. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Guthrie Hudson and one sister, Edith Hudson Devers.
Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine Hudson Goins of Bagdad, KY, Brenda Hudson Young of Frankfort, KY and Linda Hudson Harrod of Bagdad, KY; one son, Col. William Kenneth Hudson of Simpsonville, KY; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Scheduled pallbearers are Frank Buschkoetter, Stanley Smith, Bob Stewart, Eugene Pilcher, Luther Stives and Kenneth Quire. Ernest Humes will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
Funeral services will be officiated by Dr. Frank D. Farley of Beechridge Baptist Church with assistance by Rev. Steve Boyd of Simpsonville Baptist Church.

Raymond Lee "Goat" Beach, Sr., age 75, died suddenly at his home in Simpsonville, KY on Thursday, March 6, 2003. He was the son of Raymond Carey Beach and the late Minnie Belle Thomas Beach and was born in Shelby County, KY. Goat was employed as a concrete construction laborer for Plattoff Construction Company in Louisville. He also worked with the Old Christianburg Cemetery in Shelby County, KY. After his retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper for the Shelby County Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of The Hornet Club and a dedicated member of the former Christianburg Methodist Church.

Robert Edward "Bob" Reardon, 72, Shelbyville, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at his home after a long illness. He was a native of New Albany, IN and the son of the late Charles and Eulala Estepp Reardon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War. He worked for Fawcett Publications for 20 years, formerly of Louisville, as Director of Data Processing. Following this company's relocation out of state, he went to work for the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a systems analyst. He retired from Kentucky State Government in 1999 with 24 years of active service. He was a member of The Red Men of New Albany and also the Hot Rod Club of New Albany. He was an avid basketball fan, and remained an IU fan even after many years in Kentucky. He was also a fan of both U. of L. and UK. He attended Main Street Methodist Church in New Albany, where he had participated in the Choir as a boy and a young man. Singing was very important to him and something he thoroughly enjoyed until his health precluded it. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Marion Reardon and Richard Charles Reardon.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 28 years, Toy Reardon of Shelbyville, KY; one sister, Betty Zahn of New Albany, IN; two brothers-in-law, Joseph S. "Jay" (Ella) Sammons I and John D. (Connie) Sammons, Prestonsburg, KY; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Charles) Owens; 11 nieces and nephews, Linda Reardon (Steve) Keys, Karen Kwaak, Jack (Kaye) Huber, Michael (Melaine) Reardon, Randy (Roberta) Reardon, Carter (Liz) Reardon, Wendy Sammons (Mark) Hamilton, Sara Sammons (Justin) Campbell, Kara Brooke Sammons, Joseph S. Sammons II and Angela Owens; and his beloved dog and constant companion, Eve.

Cal Stanley Beach, age 46, died Monday, May 5, 2003 at University of Louisville Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a farming accident on April 23, 2003 in Henry County, KY.
Stan, as he was known to his family and friends, was a native of Shelby County and the son of Ruth Anna Thomas Beach and the late Raymond Lee "Goat" Beach, Sr. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a farmer throughout his lifetime and worked with the H. Barry Smith Group. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved to cook. He was an honorary member of The Hornet Club, and he cooked for that group often. He was a member of Centennial Missionary Baptist Church in Christianburg, KY.
Survivors include his former wife and devoted companion, Jackie Cowen Beach of Simpsonville; his mother, Ruth Anna Thomas Beach of Simpsonville; two daughters, Encosma Q. Beach and Jamakka S. Beach, both of Cincinnati, OH; three sons, Tyrus E. Beach, Otheius C. Beach and Nigel B. Margaret Christine Fleming Francis, 67, of Shelbyville, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. She was a native of Shelbyville and the daughter of the late William Newton and Bessie Payne Fleming. She was retired after 25 years of service on the assembly line from Leggett & Platt in Simpsonville. She was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Birthday Club.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Susan D. (Joseph) Higgins and Deborah E. Francis of Shelbyville and Mechele F. Turner of Louisville; two sons, Dwight "Peter" Allen of Shelbyville and Rodney L. Doretha Ann Beach Perry, 57, of Shelbyville, died Friday, May 30, 2003 following an illness at Hospice and Palliative In-Patient Care in Louisville. She was a native of Shelbyville, KY and the daughter of Mary Catherine Thomas Beecham and the late Charles Beecham and the late Raymond Lee "Goat" Beach, Sr. She was a graduate of Lincoln Institute. She worked for General Electric Company for 18 years and was a member of the Centennial Missionary Baptist Church in Christianburg. She attended and participated in many churches throughout her lifetime. She was well known in the community and was a loving and supporting daughter, mother and friend. She cherished being a grandmother.
In addition to her father and her stepfather who raised her, Doretha was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Douglas Slaughter and Cal Stanley "Stan" Beach.

Dr. Harold R. "Doc" Peyton, 66, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the Hospice and Palliative In-Patient Care Unit in Louisville. He was born April 26, 1937 in Buchanon County, Iowa, the son of the late Theodore (Ted) and Opal Betzer Peyton. He was raised in Troy Mills, IA and graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1955. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He married
Carol Penningroth on February 1, 1957 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Following his military service, he worked for the Square D Company in Cedar Rapids, IA, where he served as president of the local electrical union.
In 1966, he and his family moved to Davenport, IA, where he attended Palmer Chiropractic College. Upon graduation, he and his family relocated to Shelbyville, KY, where he took over the practice of Dr. Kenneth Ellis. Dr. Peyton became very active in the community. He served on civic organizations, the state Chiropractic Association and as a scout leader. Doc belonged to the Shelby Christian Church, where he coached boys and girls basketball and softball teams in the 1970s. He also played on and coached several softball teams during these years. He managed the Bluegrass field and umpired softball for 15 years as well. He bowled on various bowling leagues and was secretary of the Wednesday Night Early Birds for several years, serving as the lane representative on the board of the Louisville Bowling Association.
He served the community in his practice and all these endeavors for 20 years, until he developed heart problems in 1986. He received a heart transplant in February 1987 through the Veterans Hospital. He has been one of the longest living heart transplant recipients in the country.
With a new lease on life, he and his family enjoyed 15 more good years until he was diagnosed with incurable cancer in 2002. Harold is survived by his wife, Carol; his four children, Curtis Lee Peyton of Eminence, Cara Renee Puckett of Shelbyville, Clinton Ray Peyton of Dayton, OH and Christopher Alan Peyton, U.S. Air Force; 8 grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews and one sister, Sally Sherman of Walker, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Howard Peyton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Henry Christian Church, intersection of U.S. Hwys. 421 and 55, New Castle, KY. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Webb Funeral Home and at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m. The eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Kenneth Shouse and Rev. Nick Coleman will serve as the officiating pastor. Pallbearers will be Jim Waits, Gary Jones, Bennie Jeffries, Larry Sanders, Farrell Taylor, David Haydon and Gary Haydon. Cremation will follow the services.

Mary Ella Clemmonts Davis, age 67, died following an illness at Hurstbourne Care Center in Louisville on Saturday, May 3, 2003. She was the daughter of Beulah Chambers Clemmonts and the late Charley Clemmonts and was born in Shelby County, KY. She was the widow of the late Isaac B. Davis, Sr.
She was employed in the dietary department at Shelby Manor Health Care Center for many years until that facility closed. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Bethel Temple Apostolic Church, where she served as a trustee.
Survivors in addition to her mother, Beulah Clemmonts of Shelbyville, include one daughter, Tonja L. (Richard) Jones of Shelbyville; three sons, Isaac B. (Pam) Davis, Jr. of Shelbyville, William L. Davis of Shelbyville and Anthony J. Davis of LaGrange; three sisters, Valoise C. Owens, Evelyn C. Evans and Charlesetta C. Hill, all of Shelbyville; one brother, William A. Clemmonts of Shelbyville; 6 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
District Elder Fred Connor will present the eulogy at the funeral services on Wednesday. Rev. Robert M. Marshall, Sr. will serve as the officiating pastor.
