William L. "Sonny" Sullivan, Jr., 70, Shelbyville, died Friday, October 17, 2003 at his home after an illness. Mr. Sullivan was a native of Shelby County, KY and the son of Mary Elizabeth Smith Sullivan of Louisville and the late William L. Sullivan, Sr. He was in the newspaper business over 35 years. He worked for Landmark Community Newspapers for 26 years, where he was assistant plant manager at the time of his retirement. He was an interior decorator for many years and papered and painted hundreds of homes in Shelbyville. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was an active member of the Clay Street Baptist Church, where he was formerly the Sunday School treasurer and served on the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was good man who left the world a better place because he was here. We were better off with him than we are without him.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 48 years, Henrietta Sullivan of Shelbyville; three daughters, Donna Allen of Shelbyville, Sharon Sullivan of Las Vegas, NV and Teresa Sullivan of Shelbyville; one son, William Bernard Sullivan of Shelbyville; two sisters, Audrey Way of Shelbyville and Grace M. Jones of Los Angeles, CA; three brothers, Arthur Lee Sullivan of Shelbyville, Ira A. Sullivan of Columbus, OH and Donald R. Sullivan of Owenton; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James Matthew Foree, 58, Shelbyville and formerly of Denver, CO, died Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the home of his mother after an illness. Mr. Foree was a native of Pleasureville, KY and the son of Marietta Johnson Foree and the late Joseph Harris Foree. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he became a journeyman electrician. He worked for First Electric Contractors in Denver, CO, where he had made his home as an adult. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Association of Colorado. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his mother, Marietta Foree of Shelbyville and his son Christian Asante Foree of Denver, CO.

Mr. Cornelius Bernard "Ekie" Marshall

Cornelius Bernard "Ekie" Marshall, 52, of Louisville and formerly of Shelbyville, died Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 5:24 p.m. at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville after a brief illness. Mr. Marshall was a native of Shelbyville and the son of Zoretta and Jesse Marshall, Jr. of Louisville. He was a sanitation engineer with BFI for several years. He had most recently been employed through Kelly Staffing Services. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard "Len" Marshall.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his devoted companion of 33 years, Subrina Spencer of Louisville; one daughter, Corretta Jornic Marshall of Louisville; one son, Cornelius Anderson Spencer of Louisville; five sisters, Cheryl Harkins, Vivian Marshall, Cosetta Cardwell and Margaret Arlene Marshall, all of Louisville and Gwendolyn (Rev. Ernest) Latham of Fayetteville, TN; two brothers, Don (Pat) Marshall of Jeffersonville, IN and Gregory Marshall of Louisville; one granddaughter, Courtney D. Drake of Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will gather for a meal and fellowship following the funeral services on Monday at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Fifth And Main Streets in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Martha Pearl Summers Logan

Martha Pearl Summers Logan, 79, of Fairfield, CA, died Friday, November 14, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Dave and Mary Elizabeth Snowden Summers.
Martha was a resident of Fairfield/Suisun City in CA for 40 years. She retired from North Bay Medical Center in 1985 and enjoyed her leisure by cooking, bowling and gardening along with other outdoor activities such as walking, boating and fishing. Her specialities for family and friends usually included freshly baked bread and fresh-caught, deliciously prepared fish. Martha was known by family and friends as a very loving, kind-hearted person, always willing to make personal sacrifices in an attempt to help others. As her family often said, "to know her is to love her."
Martha confessed her love for Christ at a young age and attended church regularly until her health began to fail. She joined the First Baptist Church of Fairfield in 1965.
Martha was joined in holy matrimony to William James Ray Logan on June 3, 1955. Her health began to fail in 1995, and she went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 14, 2003. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mattie B. Stokes; her sister, Sarah Coleman and three brothers, Clarence, James and David Summers.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, William; her devoted stepson, James Ray; her stepdaughter, Wanda (Ricky) Ball of Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Logan (Jesse) Christian of Ann Arbor, MI and Wilma Alyne (John) Robinson of Jeffersontown, KY and two brothers-in-law, Tinsley Jefferson (Wanda) Logan of Dale City, VA and Walter F. Logan of Louisville, KY.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the First Baptist Church, 1108 Washington St. in Fairfield, CA with Pastor Mike McCamey presiding. A viewing will be held two hours prior to service time, beginning at 9 a.m. Arrangements in CA are under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home.
Following the services on Wednesday, the remains will be flown to KY. Funeral services in Kentucky will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1144 West Main Street in Shelbyville. There will be a period of visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY.
Mr. Byron Scott "Eli" Beckley

Byron Scott "Eli" Beckley, 39, Shelbyville, died unexpectedly Monday, November 17, 2003 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. Mr. Beckley was a native of Shelby County, KY and the son of Josie Beckley and the late Johnny Albert Marshall. He worked as a production associate at Johnson Controls. He began assisting the Shelby County EMS in 1975. He has assisted with the Coroner's Office for the past 15 years. He served as a Deputy Sheriff under former sheriff Harold Tingle and was a canine officer. He was an assistant instructor for CPR and First Aid. In his leisure time, he enjoyed many sports activities. He played football in high school, played on the EMS co-ed softball team and was serving as the coach of this team at the time of his death, the Shelby County Law Enforcement basketball team and on many church league teams. He was appointed to the Committee of Charitable Contributions by County Judge Rothenburger. He was a member of Clay Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kasty Beckley Johnson of Shelbyville; his mother and stepfather, Josie Beckley and Ralph Mack of Shelbyville; one grandson, Mondre Johnson of Shelbyville; one brother, Anthony Beckley of Shelbyville; one half-sister, Bobbie Marshall of Frankfort, KY; two half-brothers, John Marshall and Sean Hunter, both of Frankfort, KY; his maternal grandparents and caregivers, Sam and Frances Beckley of Shelbyville; grandparents, Gladys and the late Henry Davis of Shelbyville and Jesse and Zoretta Marshall of Louisville and his stepmother, Linda Marshall of Frankfort, KY.
Rev. Ronald L. Holder will officiate at the funeral services. Members of the Shelby County EMS Squad and County Judge/Executive Rob Rothenburger will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be Gary Coffey, Andre Quincy, Danny Reed, Leonard Sullivan, Timothy Sullivan, Ron Turley, Ronnie Baker, Jr. and Mike Beach.

Cesar Gamez Martinez, 37, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 following an automobile accident. He was born in Estacion Cuauhtemoc, Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico and was the son of Pedro Gamez Padilla and Guadalupe Martinez de Gamez. He had lived in the United States for 10 years and was a residential construction carpenter. He had most recently been working for David Sullivan and had previously worked for Doug Quire. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, two brothers and his girlfriend, Lisa Greenwell.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Webb Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The remains will then be returned to Mexico on Thursday for funeral services and burial in Juan Perales Ortega Cemetery in Ejido Maclovio Herrera, Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Mrs. Glenna Rhea Nelson

Glenna R. Nelson, 79, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Hospice and Palliative Care In-Patient Unit in Louisville after being there only three days. She had suffered a heart attack on Christmas Eve. She was the daughter of the late Levi Graham and Ruth Probus Osborne.
After high school, she attended nursing school. She worked for many years at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Louisville, KY. After relocating to Shelbyville, she worked with the Masonic Homes of Kentucky in Shelbyville.
She was married
to Robert W. Nelson for 33 years.
She was a member of the Grace Assembly of God Church in Shelbyville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Jeanne Combs and one sister, Gladys Reister.
In addition to her husband, Robert W. Nelson of Louisville, she leaves to mourn one daughter, Cheryll Lee Whelan of Atlanta, GA; one son, Richard Graham Howe of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Kathryn Baker of Louisville, KY and Jessie Smith of English, IN; one daughter-in-law, Inez J. Howe of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren and her first great-grandchild is expected in March of this year.
The services will be led Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. by the Rev. Jesse Baxter. The family will receive visitors following the memorial service on Saturday.
