SHE WAS EMPLOYED WITH THE FLOYD COUNTY COURT CLERKS OFFICE.

Betty Sue Shannon Tackett, age 73 of Drift, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2004 at her residence. She was born January 5, 1931 in Weeksbury, Ky. the daughter of the late Earl Denver and Zada Artrip Shannon.

She was a retired Nurse at Our Lady of the Way Hospital in Martin, Ky. and a member of the Drift Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by, her husband: Efford Tackett.

Survivors include: One Son, Dr. Dickie Tackett of McDowell, Ky. Two Daughters, Connie L. Ayala of Nicholasville, Ky. and Saundra Holt of Drift, Ky., Brother, Donald Ray Shannon of Langley, Ky. and One Sister, Sally Shannon Miller of Drift, Ky., Nine Grandchildren: Deena, Shana, Jill, Britt, Courtney, Ashley, Sarah, Amanda and Joshua. Eight Great Grandchildren: Brittney, Tyler, Devon, Shayla, Faith, Casey, Jorden and Caleb.

CLAUDE RAMEY, AGE 44 OF HUEYSVILLE, KY. WAS BORN FEBRUARY 21, 1959 AT MCDOWELL, KY. BEING THE SON OF THE LATE CURTIS AND LAURA TERRY RAMEY. HE PASSED FROM THIS LIFE WEDNESDAY, JULY 7, 2004 IN THE KINGS DAUGHTERS HOSPITAL AT ASHLAND, KY.

DOROTHY TURNER MARTIN WAS BORN IN MINNIE, KY. TO WILLIAM JEFFERSON AND HANNAH CICELY ROBINETTE TURNER ON DECEMBER 2, 1916. DOROTHY WAS THE SEVENTH OF EIGHT CHILDREN. SHE GRADUATED FROM MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL IN 1934 AND ATTENDED PIKEVILLE COLLEGE FROM 1934 TO 1935. SHE TAUGHT AT DRIFT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FROM 1938-1942 AND RETURNED TO COLLEGE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY WHERE SHE RECEIVED HER BA IN 1943 AND HER MA IN 1944 IN EDUCATION. FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF HER GRADUATE DEGREE, MRS. MARTIN TAUGHT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY IN THE COLLEGE OF COMMERCE FROM 1944-1945 AND THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA IN 1946. SHE WAS VICE PRESIDENT OF KAPPA DELTA PI AT UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, AN EDUCATIONAL HONORARY SOCIETY. SHE ASSISTED HER HUSBAND, BILL MARTIN FROM 1947-1959 IN THE DAILY OPERATIONS OF THE MARTIN REXALL DRUG STORE. IN 1999, SHE WAS HONORED AS A 50 YEAR MEMBER OF THE EASTERN STAR. SHE ALSO WAS A MEMBER OF THE MARTIN WOMEN'S CLUB.

SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND OF 63 YEARS, WILLIAM MARTIN, HER SON, WILLIAM GARY MARTIN, HER DAUGHTER, DOROTHY GAY MARTIN YABROFF; HER SISTERS, RUTH TURNER ARROWOOD, MADGE TURNER, MALLEY TURNER DENNEY; AND HER BROTHERS, RAYMOND TURNER, ERNEST TURNER AND ROE TURNER.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER SON-IN-LAW, RONALD YABROFF, THREE GRAND DAUGHTERS AND THEIR HUSBANDS, ROBIN YABROFF AND DAVID KING OF WASHINGTON, D.C., ANN YABROFF AND DAVID LANE OF CHICAGO, IL., JENNIFER AND PATRICK WALSH OF FALLS CHURCH, VA., AND TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, MARY CAITLIN WALSH AND JOHN PATRICK WALSH. LOVING CARE WAS PROVIDED BY HER NIECES, MADGE PO AND CECILIA SPRIGGS, AND BY HER SPECIAL FRIEND CARMEN COMBS.

Minnie Martin Conley, daughter of the late W.S. “Hoosh” Martin and Catherine “Sissy” Webb Martin, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Ky. Minnie graduated from Maytown High School and Berea College. She taught home economics for two years and spent most of her life managing Conley’s Kentucky Food Store at Garrett, Kentucky.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Judge Hollie Conley of Eastern, Kentucky, One Son, Hollie Martin Conley of New York City, Three Daughters, Danise (Mark) White of Tazewell, Virgina, Judelle Conley of Lexington, Kentucky and Melanie (Ron) Warfield of Gibson City, Illinois. Also surviving are, Six Grandchildren: Holly (Bo) Renes, Chad White, Rebecca White, Scott Warfield, Robb (Sheila) Warfield and Leah Warfield. In addition there are six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Oliver and Charlie Martin. Sisters, Golda Salyers, Lula Martin and Belva Martin.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE TWO SONS, JOHNNY WNEK (MADILEE) MANASSAS, VA., JIMMY WNEK, WHEELWRIGHT, TWO DAUGHTERS, JULIA “NED” POLEN WINCHESTER, VA., MAGGIE NEEDLES, COLUMBUS, OH., ONE SISTER OSALENE TRIPLETT, WHEELWRIGHT, 8 GRANDCHILDREN, 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AND 4 GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

IN ADDITION TO HER HUSBAND AND PARENTS SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY ONE DAUGHTER ANNA LOU TWIG OSBORNE.

SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER AND WORKED VARIOUS JOBS IN WHEELWRIGHT AND PRESTONBURG. SURVIVING ARE TWO SONS, BILL HALL AND WIFE, LOIS OF RICHMOND, DICKIE HALL AND WIFE, PEGGY OF PRESTONSBURG; THREE DAUGHTER, DR. MARY HALL OF MCDOWELL, JANICE HALL OF LOUISA, ELAINE ROBERTS AND HUSBAND, CLINT OF GEORGETOWN; THREE BROTHERS, CHESTER BAILEY OF IRONTON, OHIO, VERNON BAILEY OF BYPRO AND PAUL H. BAILEY OF BYPRO, SIX GRANDCHILDREN AND SEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND SHE REFERRED TO AS “MY OTHER DAUGHTER”, PAT LEE, WONDERFUL CAREGIVERS, AND A HOST OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS WHO WILL MOURN HER PASSING.

John Graham Ratliff, age 77 of Stanville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004 in the Park View Manor Nursing Home in Pikeville, Kentucky. He was born on May 16, 1927 in Floyd County, being the son of the late Jim and Sophia Morrison Ratliff.

He was a retired welder for Diamond Coal Co. and a member of the Church of Christ.

His first wife preceded him in death: Betty Ann Ratliff and daughter; Joann Ratliff.

He is survived by; his wife, Vern Edith Meade Ratliff of Stanville, Ky. Step Sons; Joe Schmidt of Idaho, John Meade of Prestonsburg, Ky., Randall Meade of Lancaster, Ky. Jeffrey Meade of Printer, Ky., Luther Ray Meade of Printer, Ky., George Meade, Jr. of Etna Green, Indiana and Carl Meade of McDowell, Ky., Step Daughters; Tabitha Carlington of Taylor Michigan and Beatrice Collins of McDowell, Ky. One Half - Brother, Rutherford James of Prestonsburg, Ky., One Sister, Joetta Ratliff of Pikeville, KY. 27 Step Grandchildren, 10 Step Great Grandchildren.
