Mr. Harold S. Dorris, 81, of Madisonville, KY, died at 4:05 A.M. Monday, March 20, 2006, at NHC Healthcare in Madisonville.

Born May 7, 1924 in Nebo, KY. He was the son of the late Robert Carey Dorris and Bertha Franklin Dorris. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Winstead and Alfred Dorris and two sisters, Clyda Pearson and Jewell Dame.

Mr. Dorris was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. He was a clerk for L&N; /CSX Railroad for 31 years. He was a World War II Army Air Force Veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia Strom Dorris; two daughters, Linda McCoy of Hanson, KY and Judy Igleheart of Sacramento, KY four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Weyman McGiure and Bro. Frank Dorris officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Josh McCoy, Matt Henderson, Drew Blades, Andy Blades, Shane Coughlin and James Roy Belcher.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and Noon until service time Thursday.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Jeffrey A. "Jeff" Thomison

Mr. Jeffrey A. “Jeff” Thomison, 57, of Madisonville, KY died Monday, March 20, 2006, at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Born September 27, 1948 in Madisonville, KY he was the son of the late Jesse Lee Thomison and Lillian Harvey Thomison. He was also preceded in death by his mother - in - law, Mrs. Helen Dickerson.

He was a mining supervisor for Peabody Coal Company for 39 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He also attended the Providence Rural United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Madisonville Masonic Lodge #143 F&AM; , the Scottish Rite, the Rizpah Shrine Temple and was a 32 Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Hopkins County Fair Board.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Dickerson Thomison of Madisonville; one daughter and son - in - law, Amy and Craig Herring of Madisonville; one son and daughter - in - law, Andy and Misty Thomison of Madisonville; one sister and brother - in - law, JoBeth and John Tapp of Eddyville, KY, one brother and sister - in - law, Rev. Leighton and Kay Thomison of Owensboro, KY, two granddaughters, Gracie Lee Herring and Sophie Kaye Herring; one step - grandchild, Kaitlyn Herring, his father - in - law, Morton Dickerson of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Sowards, Dr. Don Davis and Rev. Jerry Hatchett officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery in Hanson, KY.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the services.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Providence Rural United Methodist Church or the Relay for Life. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Roy H. Patterson

Mr. Roy H. Patterson, 84, of Madisonville, KY died at 1:10 AM., Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born January 12, 1922 in Hopkins County, Kentucky to the late Dillard Taylor Patterson and Priscilla Jane Ferrell Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eudena Christina Grant Patterson on February 9, 2006; one son, David Michael Patterson; two sisters, Grace Gillespie and Elsie Moore and four brothers, Ollie Patterson, Toy Patterson, Clyde Patterson and D. T. Patterson Jr..

He was an electrician for Ferrell’s Electric and a member of the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. He was a US Army veteran of World War II having served from Nov. 17, 1942 until Aug. 14, 1945 in Algeria, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany and having received a purple heart and a bronze star.

He is survived by one daughter, Joyce Jennings of Madisonville; three sons, Larry Patterson, Jimmy Patterson and Roy H. Patterson Jr., all of Madisonville; one sister, Martha Brown of Madisonville: sixteen grandchildren, twenty - eight great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeff Patterson, Ted Patterson, Michael Patterson, J.D. Patterson, Michael Jennings and Keith Alvery.

Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Monday and on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the services.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post # 6 and VFW Post # 5480.

Mrs. Jan Janene Wygal, 64, of Earlington, KY died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at her home.

Born January 10, 1942 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late James Junior Jones and Guindella LaVerne Scott Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Joe Wygal on April 9, 1995.

She retired as a school nurse for the Hopkins County School System. She was a member of the Salvation Army and the Madisonville Lions Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Joi Sigers of Owensboro, KY; one sister, Penny Baker of Louisville, KY and three brothers, James Jerry Jones of Ayden, NC, Thomas V. Jones of Madisonville and John R. Jones of Waukegan, IL and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Adcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the services.

Mr. Paul H. Devine, 83, of Madisonville, KY, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at 7:45 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Born November 5, 1922, in McLean County, KY, he was the son of the late Turner Devine and Lottie L. Kemble Devine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Devine, on October 18, 1999; two sisters, Charlice Tompkins and Dortha Duncan, and a brother, Guy E. Devine.

Mr. Devine was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and was a member of Lonestar Pentecostal Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in WWII, and was a member of the UMWA.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Howard of Madisonville; two sons, Robert Devine and Lewis Devine, both of Madisonville; two sisters, Eula Eakins of Evansville, IN, and Grace Spriggs of Madisonville; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Carpenter and Rev. Ronnie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, March 20, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 12:00 noon until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Devine, Danny Spriggs, Tim Howard, Andy Devine, Melvin Sisk and John Hancock.

Mrs. Bobbie B. Whitfield, 84, of Madisonville, KY died at 6:35 A.M. Friday, March 17, 2006 at the NHC Healthcare.

Born August 5, 1921 in Hopkins County, KY she was the daughter of the late Jasper Brown and Ruby Ray Qualls Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Whitfield on February 1, 2001; two brothers, William Brown and Gene Brown and one sister, Tempie Groves.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hanson United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean L. Wells of Hanson; one son, Joe K. Ligon of Venice, FL; one stepdaughter, Wanda Clayton of Alfred, FL; two stepsons, Wayne Whitfield of Atlanta, GA and Walter Whitfield of Missoula, MT; one sister, Betty Nance of Greenup, IL; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step - grandchildren and five step - great - grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Barnett - Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Carol Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the Grapevine Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and after 11:00 A.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Hanson United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
