Sherman ‘Pete’ McCubbin, 74
Sherman “Pete” McCubbin, 74, of Campbellsville, died August 8, 2004 in Campbellsville.
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and was a retired pharmacist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Curtis McCubbin and Bertha Gibson McCubbin; and a brother, Gerald McCubbin.
He is survived by his wife, Eva McCubbin of Campbellsville; a daughter, Vicki Burkett of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two sons, Joe McCubbin of Campbellsville and Rick McCubbin of Franklin; and six grandchildren.
The funeral was Aug. 10 at Parrott and Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with Rev. Ferrill Gardner, Rev. Vic Stansbury and Quint McCoy officiating.
Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.
Richard H. Shoffner, 80
Richard H. Shoffner, 80, of Elizabethtown, died August 8, 2004, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville.
He was a native of LaRue County, owner and operator of R.H. Shoffner Company, Inc., where he served as a major contractor through the 1950’s and 1960’s. He was most noted for his construction of the current LaRue County Courthouse. He was a member of First Baptist Church and an Army World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.E. and Daisy Cundiff Shoffner; and a sister, Mary Edith Riggs.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Shoffner of Fayetteville, Ark.; two sons, R. Henry Shoffner of Sonora and Everett C. Shoffner of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Rose M. Hegstad of Elizabethtown, and Sharon Ogletree of Hodgenville; a brother, Jack C. Shoffner of Livingston, Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Rev. Roger McCurry and Rev. Karen Stigall officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Stella Skaggs Slayton, 82
Stella Skaggs Slayton, 82, of Magnolia, died August 5, 2004, at Meadows South Nursing Home in Louisville.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Separate Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Slayton; two daughters, Joyce Slayton and Brenda Kay Slayton; and a brother, Verdis Skaggs.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosalie Skaggs of Louisville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 8, at Mt. Zion Separate Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Goff and Rev. Gerald Gardner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Mabel Linton, 76
Mary Mabel Linton, 76, of Culvertown, died Oct. 6, 2004, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Linton; a son, Joseph William Linton; her parents, Bernard Linton Sr. and Mary Gussie Watson Linton; three brothers, Edwin Paul Linton, William Harry Linton and John Rudolph Linton; and a sister, Pauline Jermane Linton Gilpin.
She is survived by seven sons, James Bernard “Tommy” Linton, William Albert “Shorty” Linton Jr., Thomas Allen “Goggie” Linton, Joseph R. Duecy” Linton, Charles R. Linton, Fabian R. Linton, all of New Haven, and Joseph Paul “Adam” Linton of Bardstown; four daughters, Barbara Ann Cissell, Mary Louise Donahue, Linda Marie “Teeny” Spalding of Bardstown, and Dorothy Ann Johnson of Culvertown; two brothers, James Matthew Linton of North Dakota and James Bernard “J.B.” Linton of New Hope; and a sister, Dorothy Jackson of Louisville; 33 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Culvertown with Rev. Lawerence H. Lindle officiating. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery in Bardstown.
Visitation will take place Oct. 7, from 6-9 p.m., Oct. 8, 10 a.m.–9 p.m., and Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. until time of services.
Prayer services will be held Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of William R. Rust Funeral Home with Rev. Lawerence H. Lindle officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Nelson County.

Hubert L. Pierce, 71, of Hodgenville, died Oct. 6, 2004, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Cumberland County, retired from General Electric and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen C. Pierce; a granddaughter, Megan Pierce; his parents, Ernest and Meda Firkins Pierce; a sister, Lourita Rains; and two brothers, Everett Pierce and Irvin Pierce.
He is survived by his wife, Azilee Ann Pierce; a daughter, Jennifer Houk of Boston; two sons, Phillip Pierce of Horse Cave, and Richard Pierce of Vine Grove; a sister, Shirley Murphy of Burkesville; three brothers, Russell Pierce of Louisville, James Cortis Pierce and Kenneth Pierce, both of Burkesville; a half brother, Mark Pierce of Burkesville; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.

Herman Edward Bell, 85
Herman Edward Bell, 85 of Campbellsville, died Dec. 2, 2004, in Elizabethtown.
He was a native of LaRue County, a lifelong farmer and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wm. and Mattie Skaggs Bell; four sisters, Gracie Bell, Linnie Bray, Annie Skaggs and Macel Allen; and two brothers, Creed Bell and Bernard Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Puyear Bell; a daughter, Joyce Jacobs of Edgewood; two grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Coulter of Jeffersontown.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. at Billy Howell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Brockman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Levelwoods Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Dec. 3, from 3-9 p.m. and Dec. 4, after 9 a.m., at the funeral home.
Anna Faye Bennett, 74
Anna Faye Bennett, 74, of Sonora, died Dec. 2, 2004, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and a retired housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Grace Thomas Bennett; and a brother, Paul Thomas Bennett.
She is survived by several cousins.
Funeral services were held Dec. 5, at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Sharp officiating. Burial followed in South Fork Cemetery.

William Edward ‘Dick’ Bryan, 77
William Edward “Dick” Bryan, 77, of New Haven, died Dec. 4, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in Indiana.
He was a native of Nelson County, a retired self-employed carpenter and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Zelphia Culver Bryan; a sister, Imogene Cecil; and two brothers, Phil Bryan and Lloyd Bryan.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hagan Bryan; five daughters, Doris Boone of New Hope, Mary Hicks of New Haven, Donna Bryan of Culvertown, Renee Rogers of Boston and Melinda Rogers of Bardstown; seven sons, Mike Bryan of Mt. Washington, Neil Bryan of Tennessee, Bruce Bryan of Bardstown, Jimmy, Keith, Larry and Charles Bryan, all of Culvertown; three sisters, Margaret Mouser of New Haven, Gloria Ann Smith of Bardstown and Bernadette Hart of Louisville; two brothers, William T. “Billy” Bryan and Richard Carlos “R.C.” Bryan, both of New Haven; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service with prayer will be held today at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven at 7 p.m. The body was cremated.
Visitation is today after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
