Elzierine "Rinnie" Powell of Elizabethtown
Elzierine Powell, also known as "Rinnie" was born on December 26, 1958. She was raised by her loving mother, Virginia Mae Carter Smith and devoted father Fred Lee Jackson whom preceded her in death. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 18, 2014, after a very brave and valiant fight against her illness.
She was baptized at an early age at New Zion Baptist Church by the late Rev. C.J. Cunningham. In her formative years, it was evident that God gifted her with an angelic voice. Her mother, a gifted singer as well, nurtured and trained her voice to higher heights and Rinnie used her talent in worship and praise to her God. She never missed an opportunity to sing, dance and shout to the glory of God.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. On any given day, a conversation with Rinnie always included bragging rights as she enlightened you on the activities and achievements on each and every one of them.
On June 30, 2007, she was united in marriage to Elder Wilson Powell. As a loving wife, together they enjoyed and nurtured a blended family. After this union, Rinnie united with Miracle Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ.
She suffered for more than 10 years with her heart disease and did not allow her illness to deter her fight, determination or her faith in God. She was a student and teacher of the Word and not only quoted scripture but kept it in her heart. Driven by her faith, she continued to sing praises and dance around the church praising God. Her energetic personality never faltered in her zeal to be a good wife actively involved with family and friends.
Rinnie will be missed for many reasons. Her loving, giving spirit; her words of wisdom; her strong belief in God that she shared with her children and grandchildren; her strong will; her adoration for her two sisters and devotion to her husband.
She leaves to witness her home going, her family who loved her dearly; beloved husband, Elder Wilson Powell; children, Latreece (Greg) Harkness, Cory (Kimberly) Lawler and Dennis (Lynette) Sprowls; god-children, Tracy Priest and Tonya Bard; like a son, Ira Peeler; three step-children, Johnathan Powell, Timothy Powell, Christine (Dexter) Pitts; two sisters, Shirley (Butch) Johnson and Olivia Cox; several half-sisters/brothers, Pam Lane, Margaret (Melvin) Jackson, Greg (Shari) Lawler, Evelyn (Kamall) Barton, Mitchel (Benita) Lawler, Toni, Wanda (Eddie) Davis, 13 grandchildren (one preceded her in death); two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Kenny Carter, Jr. and Pastor Gabriel Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery.
