Alviene Hines of Buffalo
Alviene Crump Hines, age 82, of Buffalo, passed away, Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles.
Alviene was a housewife and a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was an avid golfer and a charter member of the LaRue County Country Club. Alviene was also a long-life Republican and a devoted UK fan.
Alviene was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Edwin Downs and William T. "Pete" Hines; her parents, Claud and Lizzie Hedgespeth Crump; three sisters, Magdalene Wright, Dorothy Duffy and Edna Scott and a brother, Marvin Crump.
She is survived by three daughters, Claudette Johns of Lawrence, Kansas, Vicki (Russ) Pollock of Versailles and Jana (David) Sturm of Frankfort; two sisters, Virginia Goff of Summersville and Herschel Miller of Fairdale and her twin sister, Dixie Brooks of Buffalo; a six grandchildren, Michelle Lamp, Michael Downs Bradbury, Teri Lance, Matthew Miller, Amy Sturm and Ryan Sturm; nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Gordon McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM, Friday and after 9:30 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.

James "Jimmy" Chaudoin of Hodgenville
James "Jimmy" Weston Tylor Chaudoin, age 28 years, of Hodgenville, passed away, Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Norton's Hospital in Louisville.
He was a 2004 graduate of LaRue County High School, and a retail clerk at Spencer Gifts in Elizabethtown.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George Brown, Sr. and his paternal grandfather, Homer Chaudoin.
He is survived by his wife, Desirae Chaudoin, his mother, Cindi Brown (Perry) Rowe of Indianapolis, Indiana, his father, Ronald Chaudoin of Hodgenville, his brother, R.W. (Amber) Chaudoin of Buffalo, his maternal grandmother, Catherine Brown of Hodgenville, his paternal grandmother, Lovern Chaudoin of Hodgenville, and two nieces, Madison and Haley Chaudoin.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Sid Lewis officiating. Cremation will follow.
Visitation will be 3-8 PM Saturday, and after 9 AM Sunday at the funeral home.
Jesse Monroe Roundtree of Hodgenville
Jesse Monroe Roundtree, age 90 years, of Hodgenville, passed away, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at his home on Dangerfield Road.
Jesse was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to all. He was a member of Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church, retired from the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class with the 76th Division Infantry. After a distinguished 21 year career, Jesse received numerous medals and commendations; including, The Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the World War II Victory Ribbon and Medal. In addition to World War II, Jesse also served in the United States National Guard Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He also retired from Phillip Morris in Louisville.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, William Bradley and Ivy House Roundtree, two sisters, Antha Ellen Boston and Aline Kirk, two brothers, Ervin Roundtree and William Roundtree, his step-mother, Daisy Lee Ragland Roundtree, three step-sisters, and a step-brother.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Louise Brewer Roundtree, a son, Jesse Daniel (Donna) Roundtree, Sr. of Fairdale, two grandsons, Jesse Daniel (Kayla) Roundtree, Jr. and David Lee (Cheryl) Roundtree all of Fairdale, a great-grandson, Rylan Roundtree, a great-granddaughter, Jordon Roundtree, three step-great-grandchildren, three special children, that Jesse & Louise help raise, Katie Curry, Shirley Hensley, and Sonny Warren all of Louisville, a sister, Irene Thompson of Frankfort, a brother, James (Loretta) Roundtree of Shepherdsville, and two step-brothers, J.C. (Naomi) Ragland of Hodgenville, and Harold (Mary) Ragland of Bowling Green.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Wallace Votaw, Bro. Paul Roundtree, and Bro. Cory Murashige officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Buffalo.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Sunday, and after 9 AM Monday at the funeral home.
Aubrey Leslie Embry M.D. of Millwood, KY
Aubrey Leslie Embry, M.D., 87 died at his home in Millwood, Kentucky, August 8th 2014.
He was born June 13th, 1927 in Cow Creek, Kentucky, to Leslie Embry and Deppie Willoughby Embry.
He grew up in Neafus, Kentucky. He graduated from Horse Branch High School, and attended Western Kentucky University where he completed his undergraduate degree.
He married
Margaret Stevens May 23rd, 1953 and graduated from University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1954.
He practiced family medicine for forty five years in Millwood, during which time he farmed and raised his family.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Stevens Embry. His brother Lowell Embry. His children Candace Embry and George Estill, Gay and Kevin Skaggs, Charlie and Travis Embry, Aubrey and Mary Elizabeth Embry. His grandchildren Morgan and Julie Embry, Tabitha and Victor Cernius, Hannah and Eric Rogers, Maggie and Mike Wells, Leslie Estill, Andrew Estill, Candace and Ryan Hendricks, Isaac Skaggs, Jonathan Embry, Sarah Embry, and Caroline Embry. His great-grand-children, Victor Charles Cernius, Grace Cernius, Kaden Rogers, and Gunnar Embry. Loyal Tanner.
There will be a private interment of ashes.

James D. LaRue, Jr. of Hodgenville
James D. LaRue Jr., 94, of Hodgenville, died August 11, 2014, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home following complications from cancer.
LaRue was the official historian for LaRue County, a 2012 Distinguished Alumnus of Hodgenville High School, a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International for 53 years of service, a charter member of The Lincoln Museum, a founding member of the LaRue County Historical Society, a long-time columnist for The LaRue County Herald News, a former city councilman and a keynote speaker for five different Lincoln Days celebrations.
Additionally, LaRue was an alumnus of Lehigh University as well as an Air Corps veteran of World War II having served most of his enlistment in India and Burma working as a communications specialist. Upon his return to Hodgenville, he supplemented his work as a farmer by providing accounting services for a local farm supply company.
In 1957, he opened an office on the town square in Hodgenville providing tax services to the general public, as well as becoming a founding partner in LaRue Insurance.
LaRue served on the board of directors for Buffalo Bank, Sunrise Manor and Red Hill Cemetery Commission for many years. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and an active member of Hodgenville Bridge Club.
In 2013, he published his first book, a history of LaRue County, entitled, Mary Brooks: Portrait of a Kentucky Pioneer, Granny Woman, Family Matriarch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Bond Enlow; his parents, Marie Dye and James D. LaRue Sr., two sisters, Virginia LaRue Rumans and Elizabeth LaRue Lewis and a daughter, Julia Brooks LaRue Orwig.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula Varney (John); six sons, John (Eva), Alex (Iris), Will, Philip (Debbie), Ben (Laura) and Steve LaRue; six grandchildren, Sam Varney, Aaron LaRue, Ken Orwig III, Jack LaRue, Philip Orwig and Alison LaRue and five great-grandchildren, Natalya Orwig, Audrey LaRue, Jameson Abraham LaRue, Ken Orwig IV and Clayton Doane LaRue.
Memorial services will be held at 7 PM, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Carlton Puryear and Dr. Isaac McDonald officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM, Wednesday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and 4 to 7 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church.

Melvin Thomas of Elizabethtown
Melvin D. Thomas, age 72, of Elizabethtown, a native of LaRue County, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehab.
He was a member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church; former owner of E-Z Stop in Buffalo; former driver for Little Debbie and Rainbow Bread and a butcher for Kroger and A&P.He; was a life-long Republican and an avid U of L Cardinal and L A Dodger fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Pearl Allen Thomas, and two brothers, Dwayne Thomas and David Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Wimsatt Thomas; two sons, Jody Wayne (Missy) Thomas of Floyds Knobs, IN and Marc Douglas (Susan Hart Thomas) Thomas of Elizabethtown; four grandsons, Ethan, Evan, Jaxson and Dekker and two brothers, John Thomas of Clarkson and Ernie Thomas of Wilmore.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM, Friday and after 9 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
