Rev. Melvin Russell Thompson of Hodgenville
Rev. Melvin Russell Thompson, age 75, of Hodgenville, passed away, Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church and an Army Veteran. Melvin retired as custodian from the LaRue County Courthouse and was a former employee of Brown and Williams Company for thirteen years. A lifelong farmer, he was also an avid wood worker and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Clora Warren Thompson; two sisters, Irene Metcalf and Darlene Davis and a brother, Homer Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Jean Dye Thompson; a daughter, Penny Annette (Glen) Viers of Hodgenville; a son, Melvin Darryl Thompson of Perryville; four grandchildren, Jason Walters, Chad Walters, Chasity Rose Walters and Elizabeth Mae Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Farmer and Brian Brackett; a sister, Ada Lewis of Summersville; two brothers, Ray Thompson and Walter John (Alene) Thompson all of Hodgenville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Gardner and Rev. Daryl Coe officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM, Friday and after 10 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
Linda Louise Burd Belt of Campbellsville, formerly of Hodgenville
Linda Louise Burd Belt, age 68 years, of Campbellsville, formerly of Hodgenville, passed away, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Lexington.
She was a former employee of Burd's Grocery in Hodgenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph Warren and Nora Martha Mather Burd.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Kelly) Belt of Manteo, North Carolina and James Belt of Campbellsville, two sisters, Patty Burd of Campbellsville and Cathy Waltz of Chicago, two brothers, Pat (Linda) Burd and Gary (Belinda) Burd both of Hodgenville, four grandchildren, Dustin Belt, Daniel Belt, Austin Belt and Kristina Belt, and a great-grandchild, Kade Belt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. David Wray officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Mt. Sherman.
Visitation will be 2-8 PM Tuesday, and after 9:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Herbert Lee Turner of Hodgenville
Herbert Lee Turner, age 74 years, of Hodgenville, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
He was a member of Barren Run Baptist Church in Sonora, and retired from the LaRue County Road Department after 19 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Johnson and Evalena Dye Turner, two sisters, Gertrude Beams and Bernice Lewis, and a brother, Lawrence Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Turner, a daughter, Melissa (Louie) Payne of Hodgenville, a son, Joseph Neal (Sonya) Turner of Hodgenville, a sister, Aline (Leroy) Lewis of Upton, three granddaughters, Ashley Payne, Brittanie (Nathan) Bottoms, and MacKenzie Brooke Turner, three great-grandchildren, Lilly Hines, Dahlia Hines, and Luke Bottoms, and a special little lady, Haley King.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Barren Run Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, and after 9 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Herbert Turner of Hodgenville
Herbert Turner, age 74, of Hodgenville, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
Arrangements are pending at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville and will be announced after 12 noon on Thursday.
Bonnie Hurt of Hodgenville
Bonnie Hurt, age 72 years, of Hodgenville, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was the former piano player. She was an avid flower gardener, homemaker, former co-owner of the BonShar Florist in Elizabethtown, and a devoted grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Warren Hurt, her parents, W.H. and Rena Cundiff Taylor, a sister, Corrine Taylor, and three brothers, Stingel Taylor, Stanley "Dink" Taylor, and Everett "Buck" Taylor.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Nicole) Hurt of Hodgenville, two grandsons, Jacob and Brandon Hurt, and a special friend, Norman Worful.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Bro. Sid Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in White City.
Visitation will be 3-8 PM Sunday and after 10 AM Monday at the funeral home.
Larry Daniel Brewer of Hodgenville
Larry Daniel Brewer, age 73, of Hodgenville, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was a member of the Levelwoods United Methodist Church and also attended Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church; retired from the Kentucky Highway Department as a Light Equipment Operator and was a lifelong farmer.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dana Elzie Brewer; his parents, Elzie Willian and Sadie Truman Warren Brewer; two sisters, Betty Allen Brewer and Norma Lee Skaggs and four brothers, Clarence Heistand, Harold Willian, Lloyd Harrison and David Eugene Brewer.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Underwood Brewer; a son, Kent (Carrie) Brewer of Hodgenville; four sisters, Catherleen Brewer and Margie Brewer both of Levelwoods and Shellie (Franklin) Allen and Alene Skaggs all of Hodgenville; a brother, James (Ann) Brewer of Hodgenville and two step-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson and Hunter Lyons.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Revs. Lawrence Brockman and Cory Murashige officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM, Wednesday and after 9 AM, Thursday at the funeral home.
Rebecca Anne Taylor Miles of Big Clifty, formerly of Hodgenville
Rebecca Anne Taylor Miles, age 58, of Big Clifty, formerly of Hodgenville, passed away, Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at her residence.
She was a former employee of Allen's Heating and Air.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Ricky Thompson and her parents, Stanley and Dorothy Allen Taylor.
She is survived by a brother, Terry (Regina) Taylor of Hodgenville; a niece Christie Taylor and a friend Lee Felt.
Graveside services will be 2 PM Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in White City, Bro. Melvin Mortenson officiating.
Chester Polley, Jr. of Hodgenville
Chester Polley, Jr., age 69, of Hodgenville, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
An Army veteran, he retired from GE in Louisville after 38 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Belva "Dozie" Polley; his parents, Chester, Sr. and Stella Howell Polley; a brother, Earl Polley; two step-sisters, Linda Porter and Lois Johnson and a step-brother, Ronnie Porter.
He is survived by his four children, Mary Cecilia (Michael) Durham of Prospect, Nancy Ann Polley of Elizabethtown, Timothy Allen Polley of Campbellsville and Marshall Dane Polley of Hodgenville; three grandchildren, Shaniqua Talika Huffman, Jasmine Lillian Renee Huffman and Anyia Chantelle Marie Huffman; five sisters, Virginia Vaughn of Indianapolis, Mary Philpott and Frances Polley, both of Elizabethtown, Wanda Polley of Radcliff and Goldie Hawkins of Louisville; a brother, James Polley of Texas; two step-sisters, Kathy Porter and Phyllis Ward and a step-brother, Paul Porter.
In keeping with Chester's wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Rev. Gerald Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joachim Cemetery near White City.
Visitation will begin after 9 AM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
