Sammy Campbell
Sammy Campbell, 54, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at his home.
He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by five brothers, Andy Campbell, of Winchester, Wilbor Campbell, Arnold Campbell, C. Karmel Campbell, Mark Campbell, all of Lexington; one sister, Polly Lamb, of Lexington; and best friend, Ede Barron, of Georgetown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia H. Campbell.
Funeral services were held Dec. 31, 2004, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rodney Courtney and the Rev. Gene Young officiating.
Burial was at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers were Aaron Barron, Maurice N. Reed, Garrett Lamb, Terry Campbell, Jeff Campbell, Joe Campbell, Mike Campbell and Mike Combs.

Walter "Walt" Watson
Walter "Walt" Watson, 74, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center. He was the husband of Shirley Pribble Watson.
Watson was born in Georgetown and was the son of Lillie Mae Watson, of Georgetown, and the late Arnold Eli Watson. He was a retired IBM systems analyst and a Korean conflict army veteran. He was a member of Chevy Chase Baptist Church for 46 years, where he was secretary for the Sunday school and was a deacon, usher and custodian. He was also a member of the Southland Rebels Bowling League.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue (John) Whitehead, of Lexington; two sons, Larry Watson, of Lexington, and Gary Watson, of New Port Ritchey, Fla.; four grandchildren, Bradley (Amanda) Whitehead, Kimberly (Jason) Burden, Damien (Angela) Whitehead and Shay (Tony) Keys; five great-grandchildren, Lance Whitehead, Drake Burden, Kyleigh and Mikayla Keys and Courtney Keys; three sisters, Lois (Orville) Griffin, Lillie (Charles) Spaulding, Linda (Gary) Power; three brothers, Roy (Andrea) Watson, Fred (Sue) Watson and Arnold Watson; a host of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Ann Ford, Jackie Maples and Anna Mary Long.
Funeral services were Dec. 30, 2004, at Chevy Chase Baptist Church, with the Rev. James McKenzie officiating.
Burial was in Masonic Cemetery in Stamping Ground.
Casket bearers were his grandsons and nephews, Michael Watson and Bryan Watson.
Honorary bearers were the deacons of Chevy Chase Baptist Church.
Kerr Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne F. Cottrell
Wayne F. Cottrell, 67, died Dec. 26, 2004, in Terre Haute, Ind.
He was born in Minorsville on May 1, 1937, to M.F. Cottrell and Melia Kate Wise Cottrell. Hew was the owner of solvsIT, a computer and tech support business in Cookeville, Tenn.
Survivors include his mother; two daughters and two sons, including Cindy Martin, of Napa, Calif., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Kent "Bo" Cottrell and sister-in-law, Lynne, of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Jill Talmage and brother-in-law, Jim, of Cookeville, Tenn.; and his fiancee, Nancy Kellett, of Terre Haute, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were held Dec. 31, 2004, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, with Dr. Jim Talmage officiating.
Burial was in Stamping Ground.
Casket bearers were Jackie Wise, Buzz Wise, George Cottrell, Dean House, Phil House and Al Landers.

Herbert C. Griffith
Herbert C. Griffith, 84, of Corinth, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, South. He was the husband of Alma Lovins Griffith.
He was a retired nurse's aid for Veteran's Hospital in Lexington and was a former commercial fisherman and farmer. He was a World War II army veteran and a member of Corinth Christian Church. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Weaver, of Frankfort, Louetta Wigglesworth, of Sadieville, and Ann Richardson, of Corinth, Ga.; six sons, Davis Griffith, of Sadieville, Boyd Griffith, of Corinth, Jimmy Griffith, of Warsaw, Virgil Griffith, of Sadieville, Danny Lee Griffith, of Owen County, and Julian Griffith, of Harrison County; a stepson, Daniel Richard Stephen, of Fairland, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Rita Shepherd, of Stanford, and Marlene Stephen, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Morrison, of Georgetown, and Etta Louise Benge, of Twin Falls, Idaho; 40 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and 24 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by by his first wife, Addie Miller Griffith.
Services were held Jan. 3, 2005, at McDaniel Funeral Home.
Burial was in Pythian Grove Cemetery in Berry.

Gilberta Standafer
Gilberta Standafer, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at her home in Georgetown. She was the wife of the late Conley Standafer.
She was born in Rockcastle County on Nov. 11, 1921, and lived in Scott and Fayette Counties until 1979 when she moved to Charlotte County, Fla. At First Christian Church in Port Charlotte, Fla. she was president of the Christian Women's Fellowship, a Sunday school teacher and part of Heart to Heart. Her community activites and service included PTA president, the Scott County Women's Club, Woman of the Year in 1968 and Girl Scout leader. She was founder and host of the Scott County Girl Scout Day Camp for seven years.
Survivors include a son, Richard Ellis (Pam) Standafer, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three daughters, Gwendolyn Standafer (Steve) Newkirk, of Georgetown, Geraldine Standafer (Stalker) Reed, of Peachtree, Ga., and Judy Lynn Standafer, of Wales, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Rich (Kim) Standafer, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Duane (Cheryl) Standafer, of Louisville, Mike (Cheyanne) Newkirk, of Lexington, Joe Newkirk, of Lexington, and Chris, Sarah, and Hannah Reed, of Peachtree, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Jourdaine, Hillary and Megan Standafer and Curtis Standafer; a brother, Lucien (Betty) Tyree; a sister, Christine Cox; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Conley Standafer Jr. and Virgil Standafer.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at Georgetown Baptist Church, 207 S. Hamilton Street.
Funeral services will begin at 6 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Versailles Road, in Lexington.

Dorothy F. Vance
Dorothy F. Vance, 94, of Georgetown, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004. She was the wife of the late James Woodrow Vance.
Vance was born in Paint Lick on Aug. 10, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Josh B. and Leta Floyd. She was a member of First Christian Church and attended Georgetown College.
She is survived by a cousin, Gene Floyd, of Paint Lick; two sisters-in-law, Euna V. Linville, of Georgetown, and Elizabeth Skinner, of Cynthiana; several nieces and nephews; special care givers, Geraldine Wooten, Joyce Shannon, Betty Wagers, Ginger Palmer, Barbara Morhrmann, Diane Beagle and Becky Brown; and special friends, Hester Underwood and Christy Wilson.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Gertrude Humphrey.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Fox officiating.
Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Billy Ralston, Doug Marshall, David King, Bill Linville, Ray Beatty and Doug Michael.
Honorary bearers will be Charlie Beatty, Durward Weldon, Charlie Rogers, Bruce Lankford, Ed Lynch, Margaret Mullikin, Emma Underwood and Jean Hendricks.
