Bessie Cook Smith-Tapp, 83
Bessie Cook Smith-Tapp, 83, a resident of Carlisle, Ky., died Friday, April 11, 2003 at Nicholas County Hospital.
She was born in Harrison County, Jan. 22, 1920, to the late L.D. and Millie Elizabeth Wiggins Cook. She was a retired Jockey International employee, a member of the Rose Hill United Methodist Church, and a member of the Rose Hill United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy T. Smith and Allie Tapp, a daughter, Nancy Louise Smith, a son, Jesse C. Smith, a brother, Jesse B. Cook, and two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Jones and Roy T. Smith II.
Survivors include: two sons, Larry T. Smith of Trenton, Tenn., and David L. Smith of Carlisle; two daughters, Rita Smith Robbins of Cynthiana, and Rhoda Jones of Trenton; a sister, Alice Whitaker of Cynthiana; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 14 at Ware Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gardner, the Rev. Gaylord Gillispie, and Bro. Howard Livingood. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Emmett Smith, Jesse Cody, Stanley Morris, Gary Herrington, Tony Herrington, and Ronnie Small.
Honorary pallbearers were: James Mynear, James Sosbey Jr., Davy Jones, Carl Guy, Grover Barnett, Donald Jenkins, and James Hughes.
Garry Wayne Ritchie, 56
Garry Wayne Ritchie, 56, a resident of Paris, Ky., died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington.
He was born Nov. 8, 1946, in Harrison County, son of the late Glen Allison Ritchie and Dora Ethel Jones Ritchie. He was a farmer, and a member and deacon at the River of Life Ministries.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol and Edna Ritchie.
Survivors include: his wife, Velma Darlene Barbee Ritchie of Paris; a son, Donald (Vickie) Jones of Paris; daughters, Glenda (Leslie) Cook of Nicholas County, Sherry (Shannon) Back, Tammy (John) Black, and Jessica Ritchie, all of Paris, and Cindy Ritchie of Lexington; brothers, Glen Ritchie Jr. of Carlisle, C.B. Ritchie of Cynthiana, Don Ritchie of Newport, and Dave Ritchie of Paris; sisters, Margaret Blackburn of Cold Springs, Grace Harding of Cynthiana, Joyce Livingood and Patsy Smith, both of Carlisle; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 16 at the First Church of God by Bros. David York and Dennis Peace. Burial was in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers were: Merrill Means, Gene Elam, Billy True, Charles Woodford, Ron Carter, and Mike Sexton.

Robert Eugene Lucky, 70
Robert Eugene Lucky, 70, of Paris, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004.
He was born Dec. 1, 1933 in Harrison County to the late Cecil J. and Elsie Fuller Lucky. He was a graduate of Harrison County High School, a retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sergeant, a Vietnam veteran, a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and a member of Ruddles Mills Christian Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Violet Brunker Lucky; two sons, Daniel S. (Annie) Lucky of Harrison County and Thomas L. (Shari) Lucky of Hope Sound, Fla.; three grandchildren, Carol Ann Lucky of Paris, Devin Lucky and Blake Lucky, both of Florida; a great-grandson, Trevor Lucky of Paris; and a brother, Garnett R. (Mona Sue) Lucky of Harrison County.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. Don Reed. Burial was in Paris Cemetery with full military honor by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Clarence Abney, Larry Abney, Doug Shewmaker, Frank Burkhardt, Mark Walls, John Ritchey, Dr. Michael Wall and John Sosby.

Janice Fay Cole Haskins Southerland, 61, a resident of Monson Road, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Grand Haven Nursing Home.
She was born in Bourbon County on Aug. 30, 1942, to the late Hershel Mortimer and Helena Fee Mulligan Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of Millersburg Harvest Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jason Scott Haskins; a stepdaughter, Paula McCree; five brothers, Hughie Cole, Barrett Cole, Jackie Cole, Kenneth Epperson, and David Cole; and two sisters, Peggy Reed and Iona Callahan.
Survivors include: her husband, Friend H. Southerland; five sons, Timothy (Connie) Haskins of Bourbon County, Thomas (Terri) Haskins of Augusta, Donald Haskins and Gregory (Amy) Haskins, both of Paris, and Friend H. (Alta Betty) Southerland Jr of Oneida, Tenn.; a daughter, Fannie Southerland of Bourbon County; a brother, Randall Cole of Harrison County; six sisters, Annastella Simpson and Patsy (Gilbert) Manley, both of Harrison County, Betty Slade, Linda (Rex) Carson, and Martha (Tommy) Gaunce, all of Cynthiana, and Doris (Allen) Morris of Nicholas County; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 4 at Ware Funeral Home. Burial was in Robinson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fannie Southerland.

Lucy Mae Ishmael, 86, a resident of Renaker Berry Road, Berry, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Bourbon County, March 7, 1918, to the late John and Kate Curry Reed. She was a retired 3M Company employee, and a member of Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer T. Ishmael.
Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Anna Mae and Glenn Ishmael of Berry; two stepsons, Samuel Ishmael of Berry, and Edward Ishmael of Cynthiana; four stepdaughters, Janet Parsons of Berry, Joyce Fuller of Cynthiana, Charlotte Angell of Batavia, Ohio, and Elaine Bingham of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Stanton Reed of Bourbon County; two sisters, Mary McNabb of Berry, and Anna Kate Leach of Bath County; three grandchildren, Brian Ishmael of Cynthiana, Renee Callahan of Georgetown, and Neil Ishmael of Berry; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Preston Ishmael; and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Patricia Louise "Patti" Corbin McKinley, 49, of Robinson-Union Road, Cynthiana, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 2, 1954 in Harrison County, the daughter of Amos and Louise Charles Corbin. She was a member of Connersville Christian Church, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Christian Sisters Circle. She was a former employee of Dr. George Frazier and was most recently an instructional assistant at Northside Elementary School.
Survivors, other than her parents, include: her husband, Wayne McKinley; two brothers, Richard Allen (Betty Lou) Corbin and Gregory Kevin (Vita Carol) Corbin; her nephew, Joshua Amos Corbin; and her niece, Danielle Louise Corbin, all of Harrison County.
Funerals services were held Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford Neat and Rev. Tom Lipsome. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Case, Dr. George Frazier, John Broyles, Tommy Levi, Isaac Keller and Dr. Henry Norfleet.
