Mary Kathern North, 86

Mary Kathern North, 86, a resident of Vine Street, Cynthiana, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1916, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Peter and Myrtle Florence. She was a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry North, her sister, Bertha Amo England on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, her children Linda Kay North, Larry Jay North, Johnny Ray North, Stephan Wayne North and two grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Billy Earl (Earline) North and Roger Dale (Patricia) North, daughters Ruby L. Smothers, Mary Frances (Irvin) White and Judy North, a sister, Nettie Louise Cooper of Dayton, Ohio, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Wayne Spivey and Dr. Bill Brown. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeffery Lane North, Brandon Matthew North, Billy Reed Wooten, Johnny Thomas North, Billy Tom White, Daniel Thomas White, Anthony Marlowe Bradford, Johnny Bell, Donald Glenn Richie and Garnett Lucky. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Joe A. Nichols, Dr. William Frank McKemie, B.J. McCauley, Jerry Thomas North and James T. Swinford.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrison County Senior Citizens Center.

Warren Gamble Philpot, 82

Warren Gamble Philpot, 82, a resident of Berry, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital's Hospice Care Unit in Lexington.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1920, in Livingston, a son of the late John William and Mary Anne Howard Philpot. He was a retiree of the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot, a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army and a member of the Bluegrass United Pentecostal Church of Paris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Mary Lee Mullins Philpot, a son, Warren Kenneth Philpot, a sister, Leona Ruth Philpot Whitaker, and three brothers, Charles Philpot, Lawrence Calvin Philpot and Howard Philpot.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lorena Griffin Philpot, a son, Raymond Estelle (Christine) Philpot, two daughters, Norma Jean Philpot (William) Eals and Wanda Lois Philpot (Donald) Ritchie, all of Harrison County, nine grandchildren, Kenneth Ray (Linda) Philpot, Sherri Lynn Philpot (Robbie) Toomey, Christopher Lee (Annette) Philpot, Pamela Lee Moore (John) Hendrix, Daryl Ray (Frances) Moore, Jessica Dawn Eals, Michelle Lois Ritchie, Mary Denise Ritchie O'Brien and Raymond Eugene (Bridget) Ritchie, all of Harrison County, 12 great grandchildren, Kyle Warren Philpot, Marc Andrew Philpot, Caleb Michael Philpot, Madison Leigh Philpot, Alexa Danielle Lyons, Lauren Nicole Lyons, Nathan Lee Hendrix, Emily Jane Hendrix, Trevor Ray Gamble Ritchie, Ashley Nicole O'Brien, Eric Dale O'Brien and Alannah Renee Ritchie, five step great grandchildren, Antonia Baxter, John Ross Hendrix, Lyle Hendrix, Justin Hendrix and Zachary Toomey, two brothers, James Solomon Philpot and John William Philpot Jr., and one sister, Carolyn Fay Grubbs, all of Cynthiana.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. at Woodhead Funeral Home in Berry by Bro. Gale Meyers, Bro. Ronald Knox and Bro. Daniel J. Long. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Ray Philpot, Christopher Lee Philpot, Raymond Eugene Ritchie, Daryl Ray Moore, Gary Dale Philpot, Gerald Wayne Philpot, John Hendrix and Robbie Toomey. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Hounshell, Wesley Turley, John Philpot III, Kelly Wayne Grubbs, Charles Philpot and Tommy Fish.

Burial with full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109 will take place in Pythian Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Barbara Ann Johnson, 57

Barbara Ann Johnson, 57, a resident of Cynthiana, daughter of the late Walter and Ethel Bell Whitley, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the Robertson County Health Care Facility in Mt. Olivet.

She was born in Harrison County on Dec. 23, 1945. She was a homemaker and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Darla Johnson and Anthony B. and Kathy Johnson, all of Harrison County, a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Jeff Smith of Georgetown, two brothers, Ronald Roberts of Cynthiana and Stephen Price Whitley of Ohio, two sisters, Sharon Marie Casey and Kathy Hicks, both of Cynthiana, and four grandchildren, Kaitlin Ann Johnson, Kethan Russell Todd Johnson, Tiera Jackson and Cody Jackson.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Ware Funeral Home by Pastor Terry Moore. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Stephens, James Whitehead, Jeff Smith, John Walker, Charles Isaac and Charlie Clifford.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Robertson County Health Care Facility Activity Fund.

Gaffie Hobbs, 48

Gaffie Hobbs, 48, a resident of Hamilton, Ohio, died Sept. 29, 2003.

Survivors include his five children, Vincent, Sonya, Logan, Sarah, and stepdaughter Kelly Sageser, all of Hamilton, Ohio, his grandchildren, Bradley Barker, Joshua Hobbs and Justin and Madison Sageser, his parents, Vincent and Reba Hobbs of Berry, three brothers, Darrell, Ronald and Blynn, and a sister, Lucille Ballard.

Funeral services were held in Hamilton, Ohio, on Oct. 4 at Brown and Dawson Funeral Home.

Bertha Amo England, 83

Bertha Amo England, 83, a resident of Vine Street, Cynthiana, formerly of Frankfort, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington from injuries received in an automobile accident.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1919, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Peter and Myrtle Florence. She was a member of the Lexington Women's Bowling Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jesse England, and her son, Stanley England.

Survivors include her sister, Nettie Louise Cooper of Dayton, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Dr. Bill Brown and Rev. Wayne Spivey. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bennie Bramlett, Ronnie England, Billy Earl North, Roger Dale North, Johnny Thomas North, Brandon Matthew North and Jeffery Lane North. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Kevin Snelling, Dr. Mark Hughes, Dr. Steven Vallance, Dr. Kim Bell and Dr. Aruna Arckapudi.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Frankfort Senior Citizens Center or to one's favorite charity.

Mildred Barnes Jenkins, 85

Mildred Barnes Jenkins, 85, a resident of Cynthiana, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at the Health Center at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1918, a daughter of the late Jeff and Minnie Bryant Barnes. She was a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church and was the widow of Frazier S. Jenkins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Daisy Crawford and Lou K. Sutton, and a brother, Virgil Barnes.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline Tucker, a sister-in-law, Mary Sue Coppage, both of Cynthiana, nephews Roy Lee Crawford of Florence and Jeffrey Steward Barnes of Berry, nieces Betty Lou Wilson of Morgan and Mary Lou Peddicord, Shirley Smiley, Cathy Garrison and Virgie Sue Barnes, all of Cynthiana, and several great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted Monday, Oct. 6, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Bill Platt and Rev. Wayne Spivey. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Barnes, David Wilson, Roy Lee Crawford, Charles Clifford, Greg Peddicord, Allen R. Pickett, Cecil Smiley, Allen Burns, George Spegal, Larry Garrison, and Derrick Butler.

Ethel Fryman, 91

Ethel Fryman, 91, born July 15, 1912, daughter of Herman Brooking and Elizabeth Ellen Peddicord Brooking, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hedgie C. Fryman Sr., and four brothers, Claude, Everett, Robert and Rollie Brooking.

Survivors include her son, Hedgie Fryman Jr. and his wife, Delores Jean Fryman, four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gregory, Michael and their wives and Dale Fryman and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 4, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home by Rev. Bill Miller.
